The good: The Velocity Micro Edge Z40 offers the best gaming performance for the dollar in its class.
The bad: Expanding this particular Edge Z40 build will be tricky, as it has an Nvidia 3D card, but for multiple graphics cards it supports only AMD's CrossFireX standard.
The bottom line: Like previous Velocity Micro PCs, the Edge Z40 is an outstanding gaming PC and all-around performer for its price. We recommend it to anyone looking for a mainstream gaming desktop.

My first gaming system and it's awesome

Summary: This is my first gaming system and my first from VM. I was away at school for the last 7 years using a laptop and I wanted to get a desktop since I won't be moving around so much and would prefer performance over portability. I originally ordered a Dell XPS 8300 because I had been a customer of Dell's before and experienced fairly good service from them. I was aware of VM due to the CNET review of the Vector Holiday Edition, but I was hesitant to spend so much money with a company that I knew so little about. After waiting more than two months, the Dell system was having problems getting built, so based off of CNET's reviews of the Edge Z40 vs the XPS 8300, I cancelled the order and went with VM.
I cannot be happier. The system is beautiful and the features are top notch. With the k-series Core i7 and the extra PCI slots (vs the mainstream Dell system), I can be confident that system is future-proofed for a long time. Another perennial issue I had with Dell was build temperature and overheating. I've come to find out that large PC manufacturers use sub standard parts that are often hotter than retail grade parts. VM gave the option of upgrading the stock CPU for $35, and even though it probably wasn't necessary, my CPU never goes above 60 C even on full load. There are an additional three case fans that help to keep temperatures low inside the system.
Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to someone looking for a quality computer from a trusted company.6 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Bought this system after doing much research and reading the CNET editors review. This is the first higher end system I have purchased and must say it delivers everything I ask it to with no hesitation. System is a powerhouse (I went with the overclocked CPU and 8 gig of RAM) and quiet as a church mouse. I would recommend this system or Velocity Micro to all my friends and relatives.

Gaming Computer to Professional Photography Computer
by rjfitze on September 7, 2011
Pros: Speed - I configured my system with the Intel Core i5-2500K CPU 3.3 over clocked to 4.0 along with the 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 560Ti. I also chose 8GB 1,333MHz DDR3 SDRAM memory. I was in the market for a high end graphics card that would be able to run bo
Cons: Graphics Card. My computer has issues with the graphics card. One phone call to Velocity Micro's support team and problem solved.

Summary: Excellent computer and the most bang for my buck. I shopped around and compared the Edge Z40 with a Dell XPS 8300 and 9100. Both Dell models configured at a higher cost and if I wanted local support (USA), Dell charges extra as Velocity Micro does not.
I have to down grade this computer to 1 Star. It keeps freezing and crashing. I was told to down load a program which tells me why my computer crashed. The result was the graphics card. I was sent a new graphics card and that fix was worthless. Tech support had me wipe Windows 7 clean from my computer and reinstall it. This did not work. It crashed about 8 times, today I requested a refund. I was told I would be charged a 15% restocking fee. I requested for Velocity's Refund dept to waive it as this was not my fault it was made poorly.

Poor Reliability
by holo3578 on September 12, 2011
Pros: Great for gaming, great speed, sleek design, fastest startup of any computer I have owned
Cons: Due to the "overclocking" of the CPU and over performance of many parts, these computers fry quickly. I just had to replace my video card and my tech said it overheated. He said he has had many similar complaints, due to Velocity Micro pushing the envel
Summary: Really disappointed, for the price I was expecting a computer to last more than 1 year.

Great performance but mine's had some mouse issues
by Formulabrad on May 26, 2011
Pros: This computer is super fast, built solid, cool looking case, I love the lack of preloaded software, and the company looks cool and innovative.
Cons: I've had mine 4 months, and the mouse quit working intermittently. It just freezes, and the cursor goes to the middle of the screen. My keyboard still works, so I can shut down the computer, but then I have to wait a few minutes until I can boot it back

Summary: It's under warranty and Velocity Micro will take care of it, but still, I heard this computer was reliable and it's not so far. I hope things will be better. But, taking a second look at the reviews, it looks like some of the positive reviews have been placed there. Some of these reviews read like a marketing press release, so who knows what their reliability rating really is. But still, at the worst I can just build my own computer, which maybe I should have done. It really doesn't look that hard.

Summary: My Velocity Micro order shipment will be delayed one to two weeks because a basic simple straight-forward part was not secured at the time of the initial order date. Part should have been ordered in time so that shipment would be closer to estimated date.
