Logitech Squeezebox Boom price range: $535.55

The good: Wi-Fi radio with built-in speakers; compact form factor and bright, easy-to-read screen; supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet home networks; compatible with virtually all non-DRM audio file formats; provides access to PC-based music files (on Windows, Mac, and Linux machines) as well as PC-free Internet radio and podcasts; able to access multiple free (Last.fm, Pandora, Slacker) and premium (Rhapsody, Sirius) online music services; excellent online account integration.
The bad: Rubberized controls and reflective plastic finish show smudges and fingerprints; click knob and control layout takes a bit of getting used to; no compatibility with DRM music files, such as those purchased from iTunes or Zune online stores; AC-only operation.
The bottom line: The Logitech Squeezebox Boom is the best all-in-one tabletop Wi-Fi radio we've seen to date.

Best portable Internet radio I could find.
by slebans on September 11, 2008
Pros: Excellent sound from such a small form factor. Easy to use interface. Excellent support for Internet Radio stations. I really like the ability to create preset lists via the Squeeze Network Web site.
Cons: Had a WPA Key issue during setup. Was unable to resolve so called Logitech tech support. They suggested a factory reset. This cured the problem!

Summary: I began searching for an portable Internet Radio capable device 6 months ago as a gift for my mother. I originally purchased a portable XM Sat solution but reception was poor to nonexistent in certain areas of my parent's house. Other portable Internet Radio devices did not have the sound quality and ease of use I was looking for.
The Logitech SqueezeBox boom is a winner!11 out of 11 users found this user opinion helpful.

Amazing product!
by ddb00071 on October 13, 2008
Pros: I love this radio! It sounds great, and it allows me to access my Sirius subscription at home without one of those troublesome antennas. I have enjoyed searching for my favorite programs using some of the included services.
Cons: I'd like for it to work with i-Tunes, and I haven't managed to get it to work with Podcasts yet.
Summary: If you want an internet radio that is fairly easy to use, offers a lot of options for accessing programming, and sounds great, this is the radio for you.

Great product for listening to IR or music collection.
by brushwood on April 17, 2009
Pros: Fantastic remote, connects wirelessly to PC for playing non-DRM music files, lots and lots of Internet Radio, will drive a sub-woofer for improved bass response, multiple brightness settings for when it's off, playing or idle.Versatile alarm settings
Cons: None that I have run across. I go to sleep most nights (earphones so as not to disturb my better half) either to I Radio or my upstairs music collection.

Summary: As I said - a well-thought out and well-designed piece of equipment. I, also, have the HP Media Extender x280n which works great with HT setup but this is much more versatile for about same cost. Beautiful piano black case will show smudges but why would you need to touch it? Setup to wireless was a breeze. I bought for $150 on close-out from Circuit City and am veerrry happy with it.

Pros: This device is solid - the sound quality, the build, the look and feel.
Cons: It takes ~5 sec for online radiostation to play. Not a big of a deal.

Summary: Having a couple hundred Albums in mp3s on my QNAP NAS, Squeezebox almost instantly allows me browsing my Library (Album, Artist, Genre, Year etc). Sound is very deep and clean for such a small divice. Setup, including wireless network secure keys, took 2-3 minutes. I'd definitely recommend this product, expecially for folks with SqueezeCenter 7 always running on a NAS!

Great sound. Compact and portable. Good value.
by cigarnut on October 17, 2008
Pros: I like that it plays most of my iTunes files as well as internet radio.
Cons: Somewhat cumbersome navigation. Auto Dimmer function can get too dim in low lighting environments.

Summary: I had been in the market for a portable iPod speaker system and have auditioned many makes including the Bose Soundock II, Klipsch, Altec Lansing, Chestnut Hill and I found the Logitech Sueezebox Boom to be the most versatile and better sounding units. At $299.00 it was also the best value. Now I do not have to have my iPod unit docked in order to listen to my music library. Living in an FM signal "fringe" area, I have difficulty recieving radio stations. Now with the Boom unit, I can listen to crytal clear internet radio throughout my home.

Summary: Could someone please explain to the CNet reviewers of these devices the difference between playing file formats and being able to stream internet stations that use the formats. A player may be able to play local .WMA fiiles (useful) and play real audio files (whoop de doo) but still not support stations that stream .wma, or .ram or .smil. It's not hard to test this, just try streaming BBC radio, RTE radio and just about any US commercial station (eg Sacramento's KWOD) and the review would be so much more useful. Until these players can do this they're not adding much to the party that a $30 Linksys WMLS11B hasn't been doing for years.

Can't believe how much I love this radio
by izzy_grl on January 13, 2011
Pros: Good sound quality; Hundreds of Stations; Low Cost; Reliable; On-Line programming is good; Support of Pandora, Live356, Mediafly. U can set up alarms for days of the week; Found my favorite local radio station that was only available on HD radio;
Cons: No Color here as on previous version and no batteries; not portable; Sometimes confusing as to what can go on playlist and what can't. Better documentation is available on-site. "Weeny" remote; But for me these are minor.
Summary: I"ve had this radio for about 6 months and can't believe how much I love it. I bought the previous Logitch Squeezebox and gave it to my sister ...
Summary: I"ve had this radio for about 6 months and can't believe how much I love it. I bought the previous Logitch Squeezebox and gave it to my sister so I could get the better speakers here. To me, it's a toss-up and she loves hers better. Just not having to use a PC to listen to internet radio is great and not needing to subscribe to satellite radio are plusses but if you have you can still enjoy it here;

Great sounding little internet music box!

Summary: This is a fantastic product for streaming various genres of music/news feeds from the internet to your ears. The beauty of the net is that there are literally thousands of internet radio stations out there, and this little box gives you access to all of it (without the use of a PC).
My wife and I loved it so much, we bought a second one for our bedroom. We were lucky enough to discover 2 of these drastically reduced at a local Circuit City's going-out-of-business sale.
Depending on your household wi-fi system, the wireless setup can be slightly tedious. Since I have a router MAC filter in place, there were some extra steps in the setup, but once it's connected, it works like a charm.
The front panel is very easy to read. There are many options which allow you to increase the text font size and brightness to make it easier to read for you.
The remote is also a nice feature, which allows you to power on/off, adjust the volume, and skim through your presets.
Speaking of the presets, there are only 6 programmable buttons to store your favorite stations. With the multitude of stations out there, I wish Logitech had incorporated more presets for this thing, but that's only a minor gripe.
Aside from it's high price tag, the AC-only operation keeps you leashed to a power cord. It would have been nice to include a rechargeable battery option for this, but again, this is only a minor gripe.
Another minor gripe I have with this box, is that when the power goes or my router drops connection, the box sometimes needs to be "re-installed" to our wi-fi network. This can be a pain, but it's only happened a few times.
Overall, this little thing is amazing, and I can't imagine life without one (or in my case two).1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
