The good: Supports multiple premium streaming-music services, including Rhapsody; TV output and front-panel display; reliable wireless reception; supports playlists; upgradable firmware.
The bad: Wireless adapter is optional; doesn't play video or image files; analog-only audio output; pricier than competing systems; Rhapsody streaming music requires monthly fee.
The bottom line: The Omnifi DMS1 combines superior wireless stability with solid support for online audio services--except iTunes.

Great value, easy to setup, works great!
Pros: Very well built, easy to setup and use. The box worked flawlessly right out of the box. Streams Rhapsody, net radio and local audio with no problems via the dLink wireless adapter. Worth the extra $$!
Cons: Wireless not built in. TV interface doesn't add much in the way of functionality. Paging through list sometimes lags.

Great wireless streaming device...big display
by fiffer1 on September 10, 2005
Pros: Wired/Wireless streaming with great range. Interface (via the unit or remote) is excellent and easy to use.
Cons: Haven't got Rhapsody to work yet. Must use wired connection to upgrade firmware before you can use wireless. No digital output.

Summary: Overall this is a great unit. It streams music from your PC or the Internet flawlessly and with immediate response (Rhapsody seems to have issues and just sent a note to Tech Support...will see what they say). Installation was pretty painless. I thought it was odd that the firmware shipped with the product only supports one of the three wireless adapters that can be used with this device. You have to connect to ethernet and update the firmware (which is easy) before the other adapters work. Once completed, either wired or wireless works flawlessly. I haven't experienced any lag or jumpiness even when my computer is streaming movies to other TVs. Most of my music is 192kbps so I haven't tested higher bitrates, but I can't imagine it would be a problem. The operation of the unit is very good. The display is easy to read, even from across the room. You can control everything from either the remote or the controls on the unit (very nice plus). The only issue I have is that the key presses are sometimes slow to respond. It's mostly the power button--it will take a second or two before it powers down. Most of the other keys are quicker to respond. It's probably becuase it is storing where you are when it shuts off. The next time you start up, it picks up where you left off. That's a nice feature, so it's worth the second or two wait for powerdown. For my use, I don't need digital outputs, but for some this could be an important omission. It would also be nice to have direct speaker connections. I have speakers in the garage and backyard. It would be nice to move this unit and plug the speakers directly into it. Instead I also have to tote my portable stereo. Nevertheless, this is definitely worth the money.

Summary: I have spent the better part of 6 hours trying to get this to work, with no luck. The instructions make no reference to compatibility with 802.11a/g wireless routers such as Linksys. Generally g systems should be compatible with b, but so far no dice. A DWL-120R adapter is provided but all references in the instructions are to a DWL-121. The instructions provide no real valid troubleshooting advice. The "24 hour" support service is no such thing. You receive only an obnoxious reminder that someone will get back to you. So far no dice.

Summary: A really good media streamer for the money. My system came with the optional WiFi antenna, and was ready to go right out of the box. The only problem I encountered was the Box needed a firmware update in order to register the WiFi antenna. A quick email to tech support, and quick reply in under 10 min, and the system is working flawlessly.

Summary: I recently purchased a DMS1 and installed it in my living room alongside my hi-fi. I initially had a few problems setting it up though. The DMS1 comes preloaded with firmware to support the D-Link DWL-121 antenna, but it was packaged with a DWL-120R antenna so I ended up having to download a firmware upgrade via the simplecenter software and connecting the DMS1 to my ethernet to update it. This info was all included on the omnifi support website so it was easy to find and implement. After getting it to work i setup the software to locate all of my vast music collection. I was impressed with the sound quality of the unit and the TV interface makes it better by displaying all the music information on your TV screen. I have looked at other revies on here for this item, and noticed that some say they can't get internet radio to work at all, but I have had no problems with it. Overall I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to stream music wirelessly through their home and it represents excellent value for money.

Not compatible with Rhapsody v3 software
