The good: Mic and headphone jacks rare in this price class; straightforward and functional design.
The bad: Poor low-light video and color accuracy; lens doesn't focus very closely; subpar battery life.
The bottom line: If you're looking to shoot great HD video on the cheap, keep looking; the Canon Vixia HF R series delivers decent video at best, even for its modest price. But for a low-priced model with mic and headphone jacks, the HF R100 is a pretty good deal.

Silly price, it's a high-end standard def camcorder.

Pros: I love the built-in memory, image stabilization, and works fine in the poorly-lighted gym at night. My expectations would've been higher if it were pricier.
Cons: Only does what you expect. Nothing to wow you over.

Frustrating and disappointing.

Pros: Good quality video, external mic input, reasonable price.
Cons: Short battery life, unable to recognize edited projects using its own video.

Summary: If you just want to shoot some HD video and play it back the way you shot it on your HDTV, no problem. The picture quality is quite good and the camera has some nice features you would expect on more expensive models. However, if you want to edit your video on an HD video editing program (I tried both Pinnacle 14 Ultimate and Adobe Premiere Elements 8), then transfer the edited project back to the camera for HD playback, forget it. I've talked to two Canon support techs, and both confirmed that the camera will not be able to accept and playback edited projects, including those shot, edited, rendered and saved in the AVCHD format which the HF R11 uses. The only program that will allow an edited project to be sent back to the camera with success is the Pixela editing program bundled with the camera, but Pixela is little more than a program than can rearrange and shorten existing shots.

Cons: Overall video is not crisp. It is very light blurry. I will return it.

Pros: nice features, easy to use, solid construction
Cons: there is a spinning sound on all the videos I shot, maybe the internal hardrive recording It drowned out simple conversations,was not suitable for my needs so I returned it to Costco, where their website also had user reviews saying the same thing.
