The good: Solid 720p video, particularly for its size; slightly slicker ultraslim yet functional design; large 2-inch LCD; easy to use; integrated lithium ion rechargeable battery; HDMI output; FlipShare software compatible with both Macs and Windows machines.
The bad: Fairly pricey; no SD/MMC card expansion slot; no cable included for HD output to HDTVs.
The bottom line: Still one of the nicest models available, the second-generation Flip MinoHD offers a slightly improved design, double the memory, and an HDMI output for the same price that the original MinoHD used to cost.

Battery won't charge
by rbienstock on February 24, 2010
Pros: None that I can see.
Cons: You can't use the camera if it won't turn on, and it won't turn if the battery isn't charged, abut the battery won't charge. So it is basically useless.
Summary: I've had three units so far, none of the three would charge out-of-the box. They have only email tech support, but they can only suggest a reset process that ...
Summary: I've had three units so far, none of the three would charge out-of-the box. They have only email tech support, but they can only suggest a reset process that doesn't solve the problem. They string you along until the 90 day warranty expires and then they say that they can no longer help you. Read the reviews at Amazon. Over 100 users with the same problem.

Design Flaw - USB pop up (does not fit into computer
by walkabout247 on January 30, 2010
Pros: The quality of the image is good - they don't tell you that there is a design flaw with Model #M2120M that makes it almost impossible to fit the camera into the computer. You're told of the problem when you report it. Beware you can break both...
Cons: Customer Service and Tech support both admitted to a design flaw with this model that makes it almost impossible to fit the camera into the computer using the USB Adapter. 2 sets of USB cables were sent as the problem solver both were wrong.

Summary: Customer Service and Tech support both admitted there is a design flaw connected with this camcorder - Camcorder Model #M2120M Flip MinoHD 120min Brushed Metal. However, nothing was said until I reported the problem. The problem is connecting the camera with with the computer using the USB connector on the camera. Company policy seems to be "Unless we're asked, don't tell". I had to call both Tech Support and Customer Service to report the problem before I was told that the company was aware that there was a problem, "a design flaw". Each time I called Tech Support it took almost an hour to get a representative. No one seemed to be concerned that because of "the design flaw" following the directions that came with the camera could damage both camera and computer. I received, in 2 different shipments, USB cables sent to solve the problem. They didn't fit. They plugged into the computer but didn't fit the camera. When I received the 1st set of cables and they didn't work I called Tech Support and was told that Tech Support was not in favor of Customer Service sending out cables because sometimes they didn't work. I spoke to Customer Service again and described the cable problem and was told that new cables would be sent that would fit both the computer and camera. The new shipment of cables were exactly the same as the 1st set of cables. It was also suggested that I downgrade to the AA battery camera and buy a charger for an additional $25.00. That's not what I signed up to do. I spoke to a half dozen people in the two different departments and have no trust left in this company. There attitude has been polite but totally indifferent. I am sending back the camera and am looking into their competition. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANIES POLICIES OR LACK OF THEM.

Great Camera - but YES THERE IS A USB DESIGN FLAW
by DaBruddah on March 3, 2010
Pros: Great camera, nice picture quality -- watch the CNET video review of this camera...it is right on the money
Cons: I'm surprised CNET didn't notice the USB problem. It is impossible to connect this camera to a computer without an adapter. I lucked out and the adapter that came with my bluetooth cell phone earpiece fit the Flip, so I wasn't too put out.
Summary: Paying $200+ for a camera that doesn't fit in a standard USB port??????? Ridiculous.

The coolest orphan in my bag of tricks
by phoenix71--2008 on April 22, 2011
Pros: Sleek design, bone-simple to use. Decent software package with right outta' the box usability. Very good battery life, and exceptional auto white balance for a pocket cam.
Cons: Biggest gripe is that this was marketed by a parent company that just hung Flip out to dry - even though it's a market leader AND money maker. This means no next generation, no continued refinement.
Summary: The pros and cons are already stated, but I'll speak to both in greater detail here: I was given a Flip MinoHD over the holidays, and have enjoyed playing ...
Summary: The pros and cons are already stated, but I'll speak to both in greater detail here: I was given a Flip MinoHD over the holidays, and have enjoyed playing with it here and there. It's not a real replacement for a proper camcorder - you really want a good optical zoom and better mic than you can fit in a pocket - but for something that's smaller than my TV remote it works splendidly.
Strong points are ease of use, quality of picture (it performs MUCH better in low light than several other mini-cams I've tried), good sound reproduction, and a very attractive design.
Weak points are few: The "back" of the case is a fingerprint magnet, there is no optical zoom, accessories are stupid-pricey IF you can get 'em. A wide-angle lens for this camera should be no more than $20, but it's priced at $50. Silly.
Then again, since Cisco has just announced they're killing off the entire Flip line, these things should be selling for fire-sale prices by now. Shame that a company that's done some very good projects over the years, is killing a market leader and money maker for the purpose of "redefining its position vis-a-vis the marketplace," or whatever asinine syntax they used in their statement. -
My Flip Mino HD doesn't work or charge.
by rbhoel on March 29, 2011
Pros: None that I am happy with except for the HD movies when it does work.
Cons: My Flip Mino HD has always been difficult to use with the buttons slow to respond to pressing them and also difficult to turn on. Now it does not charge and will not turn on. Apparently this is an inherent problem with this product. And from what I have r

Updated on Mar 29, 2011Summary:
Apparently this is an inherent problem with this product. And from what I have read, after the 90 day warranty there is no support at all. I will never buy a Flip again. I will check out competitor cameras after checking them out on Cnet.
Updated on Mar 29, 2011
Updated on Mar 30, 2011I finally got the information I needed via customer service from Apple. It turns out that you have to connect to a high power computer USB for at least 3 hours after pushing the reset with a pin. The computer cannot be allowed to hibernate during this time. The Flip camera will reset itself if this is done. If not, leave it connected overnight. In my case the 3 hours worked and my Flip Mino HD is working again. I wish this had been posted on line somewhere. -
Excellent compact quick to record and upload video cam
by shayadave on January 13, 2011
Pros: I love how compact it is and the quickness to shoot video. And with the flipshare software it makes for easy uploading to your favorite social websites. Combining multiple clips is easy to to with flipshare software which is a plus as well.
Cons: I wish I had a wider view, it doesn't cover a wide angle to your shot. I know there's an attachment lens available, but that takes away from it being compact. Although I am not concerned alot about the aforementioned I still love my flip mino hd.
Summary: I would highly recomend this video camera to anyone and everyone who is interested in capturing moment's in life that you can not do with a digital camera. Plus ...
Summary: I would highly recomend this video camera to anyone and everyone who is interested in capturing moment's in life that you can not do with a digital camera. Plus it's not almost a thousand bucks like those high end HD video cameras. This one fit's right in your pocket just like your cell phone.

I love it. It's easy to use and compact.
by juneone45 on December 24, 2010
Pros: Easy to use, Size, quality of video, and the price. I got mine online for $121.00. It comes in handy when I want to shoot video of my grandkids. I can just drop it in my pocket or purse and it is as simple as point, shoot, record with one button.
Cons: It does not have a memory card slot and I had to buy the HDMI cables separately.
Summary: I like it because it is easy to use. The price was not bad and the quality of the video is very good. I would definitely recommend it to my ...

Needs more stabilization for videos.
by jaypaulv on November 27, 2010
Pros: The Flip MinoHD is good for taking quick videos. It's light-weight, easy to use, and relatively cheap (my ex-girlfriend got mine for me at www.woot.com refurbished for $69.99)
Cons: - USB
- low-light videos
- zoomed inSummary: Sadly, the cons outweigh the pros for the Flip MinoHD. As you've probably read in other reviews, although it is convenient to not have to deal with any cords, ...
Summary: Sadly, the cons outweigh the pros for the Flip MinoHD. As you've probably read in other reviews, although it is convenient to not have to deal with any cords, there is a design flaw with the USB connection. It is too bulky and as a result when my Flip is plugged into my Macbook PRo I can't plug in my external hard drive with the possibility of breaking one of the two. Also, low-light videos are somewhat grainy and editing doesn't help. My biggest concern is how zoomed in the lens is automatically. I use mine at social gatherings with my friends and family and I really have to step back to get a good frame. For instance, my brother was goofing around, dancing, and while standing around 10 feet away from him I couldn't get his entire body in the shot. Overall, I was a little upset with the Flip MinoHD and wouldn't recommend it.
