A fine camera
by kauaisfinest on May 17, 2007
Pros: Exceptional video results
Cons: magicpix not that great
Summary: The reason I purchased panasonic is for it's quality. Past electronic devices worked flawlessly under heavy use and lasted a very long time.

This is an above average camera. I like the modes especially soft skin. People images are outstanding. The vdr d 300 is not light but i like the solid feel; I never could get use to light video camcorders.
Organized layout for controls, with useable options, and smooth auto focus too. I also like the construction of this camcorder; the solid weighty feel signify quality. I didn't like the magicpix mode because of the blurry results. If you desire to shoot in low light, get an external light. Still low light shots are ok.
I highly recommend this camera for novice and semi pro as well.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: If you like the convenience of DVD, buy this camera. The same quality video as Mini DV only gives you 20 minutes of video on a Mini DVD though, so I went with the PV-GS300 which has the same lens, the same chips, weighs a bit less and shoots on the ever versatile and considerably more affordable Mini DV Tape.
True, you have to transfer it to other media in real time, but you remember you're buying a camera to watch video you shoot right? If you're going to watch it anyway, you may as well save yourself $200 and go with the GS300, or the 500 if you want the bigger 1.4 chips for even better quality.4 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Camera with good stills
by zanejensen on May 7, 2008
Pros: 3.1 megapixel stills, size, 3CCD, Leica Dicomar lens, DVD camcorder

Summary: Great camcorder for the money did lots of research and best buy for the money by far. Have had no problems with it. Have owned it for close to a year now. The best thing i like about this is that you can video tape stuff and take good still pictures without having to buy a seperate camera. Overall easy user interface and small compact design. Using DVDs is easy and simple. Will be good for years unless you want high def videos which isn't a big deal to me and if it's not for you than this thing will last you until dvds are replaced. Also sturdy and solid have dropped this lots of times and still works fine. Pretty much the same as the VDR-310 as i can tell except for a few fetures but not worth the extra money in my opinion.
