The bad: Bulkier than most MiniDV models; black-and-white viewfinder; bottom-loading cassette.

"Typical for Sony"
Pros: The camera has nice built in features and it's compact. I took mine to Italy and it worked very well.
Cons: Shortly after I arrived back in the states the camera's cassette cage wouldn't close. It hadn't been abused any. It cost me $269 to have it repaired by Sony. (A flat rate) Originally it cost $714 new, $269 to repair. Accessories are outragously priced and

It's too expensive for the results one obtains.
by JerryLaw on July 9, 2009
Pros: It's a simple camera to operate and it has a few interesting features like the End Search and the adjustable eyepiece assembly.
Cons: The camera is not what I wanted in terms of an alternative to an expensive professional camera. Strictly an amateur's toy.
Summary: It is very cumbersome to operate. The on/off switch is awkward to use, to say the least, and the zoom control is practically uncontrollable if you want a slow, ...
Summary: It is very cumbersome to operate. The on/off switch is awkward to use, to say the least, and the zoom control is practically uncontrollable if you want a slow, smooth zoom. Loading and unloading is a pain when you have a tripod mounted camera because you must remove the camera to replace a tape. Although the manual says there is a time code available, I have been unable to find it. Also, you can only check time code by using the remote control unit. As others have noticed, there is an audible hum from the motor and a loud "click" from the zoom when it reaches its full extent. I have also experienced dust particles inside the lens that glow like rain drops at certain angles with the sun. As a former professional cameraman I am deeply disappointed by this camera.

I've owned this for a number of years now and it has never let me down.
by jbatson on August 5, 2005
Pros: Even though the still photos are not high resolution, this does a great job at taking basic snap shots - even when playing back video! You can also playback analog 8mm tapes to capture them to your PC
Cons: The video picture quality is not as good as my MiniDV camcorders but still acceptable.

In almost 11/2 years that I have used my TRV 350, it has been a fun camera to use.
by dsrtflyr on April 3, 2005
Pros: Its ability to use tapes from my old Canon, was one of my reasons to get it.
Cons: I don't use a tripod often, because I get steady movies without it. So the changing of a tape is not a big issue.
Summary: I have found it to take great stills, and movies, unlike what other posters have commented. I use 2 memory sticks:16 and 64mb. Whether I am indoors or out, ...
Summary: I have found it to take great stills, and movies, unlike what other posters have commented. I use 2 memory sticks:16 and 64mb. Whether I am indoors or out, I have had no light problems to speak of. I have used the "Night Shot feature" a few times in very low light conditions, and I got satisfactory results. A minor item I have found, is forgetting to move the control from movies to still, and I start recording on the memory stick. I use my stills as my screen saver on my 17 inch monitor, and I can't tell any difference between them and 35mm pics I have taken.

Tape eater
Pros: None
Cons: For no reason other than it must have gotten hungry, it decided to eat the tape, and won't eject it again. I babied this camcorder, and took great care in how it was treated, but it broke anyway. Anyone have a quick fix besides Sony's expensive repairs? H

Don't even bring it home - you'll only take it back.
Pros: A lot of good features overshadowed by two major flaws.
Cons: 1) - Audible motor hum, perceptable when camera is in the recording or VCR mode, is transferred to the recorded cassettes and amplified as an irating whine when viewed through the camera LCD or on a TV screen via RCA jacks. 2) - Cassette loading seems li

Great value and versitile
Pros: Great starter camera with backward compatibility. I love it. Use it all the time. Analog pass through is invaluable. Night vision cool. OK sound. LCD screen is very adequate. Plenty of plugs. For price - I don't believe you can beat it. Rugged en
Cons: In extreme quiet - can hear "whine"... pretty common amongst budget cams. Can be helped if video edit software has audio edit avail. Otherwise sound in normal environments is good.
