Excellent Camcorder
by crazy365 on November 23, 2008
Pros: Record directly to DVD or Memory stick. Battery meter, night shot with infrared system, scene select modes. To many to mention
Cons: I have big hands some of the buttons are some what hard to get to. But after using it a couple of time you get used to it.
Summary: Look you do need a brain to operate this camcorder.

High quality camcorder- good images, nice features.
by busker9 on December 23, 2008
Pros: Typically superior SONY quality. Precise controls.Reasonably intuitive option set & fairly shallow learning curve. Not loaded with "features" useful only for marketing purposes, e.g image stabilization system: On or off, one mode works very well.
Cons: Ergonomics not the greatest for big handed folks, but not a show-stopper for most. Manual readability's not the greatest either, but certainly as good as average for Japanese electronics, and it IS thorough. Sony's web-based product support is great.
Summary: I did a lot of research & comparison before purchasing this camcorder.

If you want a zillion bells and whistles then you may be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a high quality camcorder with reasonable flexibility and excellent image quality that doesn't require an advanced engineering degree to operate, then I'd highly recommend this one.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great easy to use Battery last a LONG time
by landesign on November 10, 2008
Pros: The easy of taking pictures was outstanding. Yes it did take a little getting use to-switching back and forth needs learning. Takes great pictures at any range.
Used it in Ireland-took 12 GB of Movies and 300 stills. Only mess ups were mine-Cons: Can be a little frustrating at first-switching between still and movie-but it comes a round in time. Did not use DVD-not long enough.
Summary: I like using the camera. It does take time to get use to the controls, but what doesn't? Have recommended it to several people-most in Ireland when they saw ...
Summary: I like using the camera. It does take time to get use to the controls, but what doesn't? Have recommended it to several people-most in Ireland when they saw me going back and forth between the still and movie. Takes great shots of moving water and helicopters. Could count the propeller strokes. Plan on enjoying it for a long time.

Pros: NightShot, video quality, LCD quality, zoom, etc.
Cons: No cons, just a great camcorder!
Summary: This is a great camcorder. It's affordable, produces good video quality, NEAT nightshot mode, and zooms in very far.

With every Sony product that I buy my satisfaction of their quality gets better and better. Their quality is really unbeatable. Their products are usually slightly more expensive than other brands, but trust me it's worth it. (my Sony tv is almost 10 years old and works like it's brand new, it's held up fantastically)2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Sony has built another great camcorder!!!
by MissyFit10 on December 10, 2010
Pros: Compact, has all the basic features that you use every day. Zoom is great. I can see across the lake so I know where the kids are. Controls are so intuitive and easy to use. You don't need to open the manual but you have one just in case.
Cons: A backup battery is a good idea for long trips. They last as long as you could expect but you have to be realistic. I end up taking 700+ still pictures in one day so my battery has a right to get tired. This isn't really a con, just a helpful hint.

Summary: I have always purchased Sony camcorders and I do not think I will ever find a reason to stray from their fine line of camcorders. They offer a high qualilty camcorder for everyone: basic to pro. I used my last one for 12 years before it started to act like it might need to be cleaned and have a bit of maintenance performed on it. You just can't beat the quality, well worth the competitive cost. You never lose with a Sony. But if they get any smaller I won't be able to see them, slow down on the size reduction there guys. Use big print, my eyes aren't what they used to be and I appreciate the long optical zoom. It makes it easy to find the kids on the lake. Thank you.

A pretty good camcorder
by Tony_JM on April 8, 2009
Pros: Lightweight
Good Quality
Fit's right in your hand
Good priceCons: Manual Focus a little "weird"
Nightshot is okay for closeup
No way of putting in an external mic
Must hold the camera very steady to get a good, steady hand-held shotSummary: This is a good camcorder for any doing any type of thing. From family videos to videography. I like that it has pretty good quality on SP. HQ especially. I ...
Summary: This is a good camcorder for any doing any type of thing. From family videos to videography. I like that it has pretty good quality on SP. HQ especially. I use this cam for everything I do, and will continue to use it until I can get enough money for a good prosumer model.
Something I don't like is the fact that the image can get very shaky when going hand-held with it. Even when "steadyshot" is on, you need to have a good grip on this cam, or else it will look like you had a seizure while taking the video. I guess this is just something in the guts of the camera that can't be improved much, so just make sure you have a good grip on it, and use the viewfinder.
Another thing that isn't all that great is the "Nightshot" feature. I'd say this is good for recording something closeup at night, but the IR light built in doesn't have a far range.
Also, I kind-of wish the manual focus was something like a little ring on the side, instead of buttons on the touch screen. It isn't all that accurate, but it's okay.
One last little gripe, I wish they had some sort of way to hook up an external microphone. But this probably isn't important for what you would be doing. It would be useful for me, though. -
Lousy camcorder
by readsalot633 on September 3, 2008
Pros: small, and compact, easy to carry. not much else...
Cons: Hard to use, lousy definition & focus. the menus are not very user friendly, the controls not very intuitive.
Summary: Not very easy to use, and don't lose the manual or you'll be sorry. Wish I had spent my money elsewhere. The simple task of recording an event ...
Summary: Not very easy to use, and don't lose the manual or you'll be sorry. Wish I had spent my money elsewhere. The simple task of recording an event made fiendishly hard!
First you format the disk, then you can record, then you must finalize the disk, before you can play it. SOMETIMES it plays, but don't count on it. (and don't try to play it anywhere except on the handycam before you finalize it, or its ruined and will never play anywhere again) And this info is buried on pages 37 and 67 of the manual, well past the "how to record" section. Not much good to find out AFTER you have recorded your first videos.
