Great features packed in a tiny package but not without flaw (or two)
Pros: Bought the camera for my wife 3 days ago. Poor girl hasnt held the cam in her hands for more than an hour total. I am quite impressed with its features pack. Great body, excellent video quality, decent zoom for its size, built-in lens cover, base station
Cons: Every rose has its thorns and so does this baby! Sony is keeping alive its tradition of creating "unusual products" like F707 series digicams, IP220 camcorder, W-series PC, etc. The PC109 has unusual like-it-or-hate-it design (I am getting used to it now)

DCR-PC109 is top notch
Pros: Touch screen decreases amount of buttons on camera. Easy cam mode makes operation even easier. Extremly compact. like the Cnet demo says, the zoom on this camera is very nice.
Cons: No USB port on actual camera, forcing you to bring the docking station where ever you want to link up. Not very ergonomic for the hand.

Great Portable Quick Recorder
Pros: My two older kids are 5 and 8 and learned how to use the camera within minutes. The docking station with the built in charger is a nice feature. The touch screen makes things smooth and easy.
Cons: An automatic lens cover would be nice. It tells you to open it, but not to close it. We have been long time Sony users and have many memory sticks. I am disappointed that we have to buy a new format in the duo gateway.

awesome...so far!!
Pros: size and quality was a huge factor in my decision. steady cam and night shooting was a definite plus. although the camcorder has no flash embedded, i do not intend to use it as a camera. if u want size and style..this ur machine!
Cons: the software is so not user friendly and can be a pain at times. this is definitely not meant for new users. for the price, no i-link cable, strap and camcorder handling requires alot to get used to. and sony support sucks.

One of my best experiances with sony
by redflyingturtles on September 11, 2006
Pros: Great LCD, good audio, nice lens, crisp video quality, long battery life, smart foot for expandability.
Cons: No firewire, LCD hard to see in sun, lens does not adjust well with dark subject in front of bright windows.

Summary: I am an ameature videographer who has worked with many cameras and I have also edited the videos and I have not had many experiences like I did with the PC109. The video taken with this camera was very crisp and surpassed my expectations. The LCD wasnt as great as I hoped and there is no built in audio port. I was however able to use the a/v port to monitor my audio. The only bad thing about this camera was that there was no built in firewire port so I could not always copy the video if I was taking the camera on the road and I was working on my laptop. Now onto the memory cards. Although many may not like the duos due to the fact that it is not used in alot of products except sonys, I found it conveniant because I was able to view the video I had taken onto the card on my PSP.

very noisy motor
Pros: good features and works.
Cons: It only work, but isn't great. The motor noise is very distracting and is present in the playback. My old camcorder's motor has a lot less noise (sharp). Notice that the specifications do not list the noise. The signal to noise ratio;, if spec'ed woul

Well designed camcorder with a lot of built-in options
Pros: Compared to my previous digital JVC camcorder, the Sony provides more than adequete stills. The video is flawless with a touch screen display whick allows easy change of the video parameters. The camcorder is light and easily fits in my fanny-pak,
Cons: Unlike the JVC, there is no build-in flash or automatic lens cover. The still camera button is somewhat hard to reach.

Not a very good value when the sensor dies.
by Knightbird on October 19, 2006
Pros: Pictures were fine until the sensor self destructed.

Summary: Consumer reports had originally included this camera as among those with defective sensors. My sensor died in the same manner as those covered in the class action lawsuit against Sony, but was not covered. It is a $300 expense to replace. I only got about 20 tapes out of the camcorder. With their battery recalls, and the trouble I had with their camera, I am done purchasing Sony products.
