False Advertising!!!
by Romy MC on April 8, 2008
Pros: clarity, ease of use, HDD

Summary: I bought this camera a week ago online. This is a decent camera but pretty pricy. The 1080i high definition is great and the steady shot feature is above average for hi-def camcorders. This thing is very easy to use and includes most of the cables you will need except HDMI. I just now found out that this thing is DOES NOT have an IEEE interface or what sony calls the i.LINK but on the sony style website it clearly says that this model does have that feature. I called sony and I get conflicting answers from different people. One said just get a 4 pin to 6 pin firewire cable and stick it in the battery port and it should work. How stupid is that? Then finally they figured out that the advertised feature is not part of this camcorder series. So buyers beware if you are looking for the firewire feature, it is not part of the camera. Customer care rep I spoke to was rude and not helpful at all. What do they care? They are not even customer care here in the US. This is very disappointing considering I've been a loyal sony customer. This is the second time this has happened to me with sony customer care. The other time was with one of their expensive camcorder batteries that does not give the advertised battery life. Nobody seems to know exactly what is going on witht their products. No help at all. All they do is constantly apologize for not knowing their own products. Sony customer service I give a whopping ZERO in customer satisfaction.

Amazing Color and Clarity!
by purposeo on April 14, 2008
Pros: Color, Clarity/Sharpness of picture, manual features (that is has)

Summary: This is my first HD camcorder and I am thoroughly impressed. I heard a lot about image stabilization problems with HD, but this camcorder seems to have a very good stabilization.
The colors this camera's sensors pick up are phenomenal if you have your exposure and white balance set correctly. The feature to view zebra stripes at 70IRE and 100IRE is very helpful in setting exposures on people and scenery.
The image clarity is very high grade.
The only thing that I had difficulty was getting the files onto the editing software. I had Sony Vegas 8.0a and had to upgrade to Sony Vegas 8.0b. The camera puts the files into a .m2ts format.
ATTENTION MAC USERS:
I talked with someone in a camera store, and he said that the sony format is difficult to work with in Mac. I don't know if this is true, but I'm just giving you a heads up.
Overall, I am very very happy with the purchase.
p.s. Get a UV filter with the camera to protect the very nice Carl Zeiss lens.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

After a month, I would have gone with something else
by codzilla on September 20, 2008
Pros: Good size, feel. Big LCD screen. Good sound if subject is close to camera.
Cons: This thing is pretty much chained to the docking system that came with it. Can't re-charge or download without it and it doesn't seem to fit into the dock as well as it should. Also, the dock has a large footprint. Proprietary file format sucks too.
Summary: With a 20% re-stocking fee if I return this, I am pretty much stuck with it.

Getting an extra battery (smaller than a standard "D") will set you back $120+, unless you go with el-cheapo imitations, which will void your warranty.
I went with a high-def camcorder this time around, thinking it would be worth it. If I had to do it over again, I'd go with a cheaper model/brand that has a decent rating for about half the price. The hi-def just doesn't seem to come through and certainly isn't worth the extra price, at least not on this model.
I had a Sony Handycam about 20 years ago and swore I'd never buy Sony again. I am sad to say I made an $800 mistake this time2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is indeed a well built camera, this is the second Sony camera we have purchased, the first being Sony older generation with tape cassettes. This new technology with 60GB HDD with HD 1080i is best especially when hooking it directly either into the LCD 32" or the PC LCD 24" both image quality and precision recording is above average from our point of view.
For price and size this is hands down the best buy for an HD and HDD video camera.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Amazing, couldn't be happier!
by kevinatch on November 24, 2008
Pros: 1. Crisp sharp colors and definition are absolutely amazing!
2. Easy to pickup and use out of the box.
3. Came with all the cables to connect to my newer HD TV AND older TV's and my computer.
4. Conversion software better than I expectedCons: 1. The instruction manual doesn't go into much detail about the cameras options, luckily the camera is much more user friendly than the manual and I was able to figure most everything out pretty quickly.

Summary: I bought a Panasonic SDR-H40 video camera and was very disappointed with the quality. It didn't look any better than my old VHS-C so I decided to bite the bullet and step up to HD. I didn't want to worry about carrying around tapes or discs all the time so I wanted something that had a hard drive. After looking at all the options I ended up buying this Sony Handycam HDR-SR10 and I couldn't be happier. It's great. With the software that came with the camera I have easily converted files to mpeg, wmv, and converted them to burn on DVD's that will play on a regular DVD player. (I was a little concerned about this as some reviews I read mentioned it was a weird file format, but it was super easy -- just click on manipulate on the main screen of the software that came with the camcorder and then click on DVD video creation -- so I'm not sure what the fuss was about). It does take a few minutes to convert a file and obviously you lose a little picture quality converting to regular DVD rather than blue-ray, but I just will use that feature to make DVD's of the kids to give family members or send the occasional video by email. The editing software is pretty basic and I will probably end up investing in a more serious editing software soon. The nightshooting feature is amazing --- I may be a little behind the times on technology, but I still can't believe some of the video I have of my baby sleeping that was taken in a dark room with no light whatsoever. That infrared system is awesome.
I could go on and on with the things I love about this camcorder and can only find 2 drawbacks. The battery life when shooting in HD is short (I will be buying an extra battery) and the aforementioned instruction manual.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good camera for HD daily shooting
by zoleg on November 10, 2009
Pros: good battery life. intuitive interface. compact size, good firm handle for your hand. good sets of accessories and filters.
Cons: Color correction required almost always if you filming inside or with poor light. Colors really messed up if you film in the dark with artificial light. Color correction and white balance settings are not remembered even after set. Poor photos.
Summary: If you don't do lots of in-room videos, this is for you. If you really after semi-professional quality - think again.

So Far, So Good ...

Summary: Like I said, "So Far, So Good". I think I got a pretty good price on the camcorder ($600) and I haven't run into any problems. The clarity is great and the Face Detection is a cool feature. The big test was the "Wife Test" ... which went well and the wife finds it very easy to operate. Overall, good camera just be sure to not over pay ... I still see this camcorder for sale for around $800!!!

Exelent HD Camera
by demarren123 on December 23, 2008
Pros: HD movies as easy as you can.
Good lens and exelent cmos censor, even in not so good licht.
You have options to take movies in SD compatible with normal DVD players,How ever converting is nessesary.Cons: I have two sony camera's and I still not understand how the mesure batterie live.
If sony say you can take movies for two hours, believe me ,take half of thad, and it will be cloce.Summary: As an camera its an sony, and sony is simple good for camcorders.
Exelent lens, good stabilisation, and acurate focus, even in very poor licht.

Exelent lens, good stabilisation, and acurate focus, even in very poor licht.
The camcorder have also an mini HDMI port to play movies on an big lcd or tft screen.with ownsome movie qalitie
The best program I found to work quick with the HD movies was nero 9
you do not have to convert them to mpeg, becouse nero 9 can play the movies direct on computer or place them on regulair dvd.
The only problem if you like to wats the movies on yout tv set you need an bleu ray player or you can play them from your computer and use an video card thad can play HD movies,
Or you need the camera and hook thad on your tv set.
Via HDMI or via RGB
The good news the camera come with the cables exept the HDMI cable.
