Excellent but needs few more features to be 5 star!

Summary: I bought this camera to use on a low budget video production project, and so far I'm very pleased with it's video quality and recording ability. The 160gb hard drive is excellent and so far I haven't experienced any loss of data. It might be more than you actually need but it's good for long sessions.
The video quality is superb, and there are lots of easy to use options for white balance control, f-stop control, and focus control. You can easily adjust these settings on the fly through the bright touchscreen. The wide angle lens captures a lot of scenery without being too far from the target.
Low light recording is pretty decent and the camera adjusts well, however it's a shame Sony dropped their night vision mode from their camcorder line.
Sound quality is great and the 5.1 surround recording is very nice, although if the cameraman is speaking it tends to throw it more on the back channels, but still it comes in very clear without static. Wind noise is reduced fairly well.
Still photos tend to come out rather grainy and I haven't been able to fix this entirely. Also sometimes the camera has a tough time finding the focus on still shots. It's almost better to record it and capture a still while recording instead of simply taking a straight up shot.
I give the camera 4 stars mainly because it lacks a few of the other features that the other Sony camcorders have. I chose this one based on the hard drive size. The main features lacking are the mount for a lens hood, remote control ability, and a light. The lens hood is actually the one I'd like to see the most, but all these things can be remedied with a little bit of extra work.
Another thing that annoys me is that you can't simply delete files from your computer en masse. The other day I recorded 158 files and can't delete them all quickly. You have to check them off one by one in the camera itself and batch delete. A bit time consuming, but not a dealbreaker. If you're looking for a great camera without having to worry about storage space this is the one for you.
