The good: Very fast; excellent photo quality; flexible autofocus system; big, bright viewfinder; streamlined interface; adds wireless flash control.
The bad: Single card slot; some annoying small and hard-to-feel buttons; limited to three shots for bracketing; Live View focusing still slow.
The bottom line: An excellent midrange dSLR, the Canon EOS 7D delivers for the money.

Nice Job Canon, I'm very happy...
by irocjbl on November 6, 2009
Pros: 3" Display, 8fps, 18mp, New Focus System, Excellent Menu, Solid Build, 1080P Video, Excellent feature set.
Cons: Display can be deceiving for final image output. Setting the screens brightness is the key. ISO is not as good as my old 4 year old 5D.

Summary: This new focusing system is totally new for canon and it is awesome. Lot of tweaking to make your images stay in focus for sports with that great 8fps. There is a learning curve you may have to go through as I did but this camera is a gem.
I'm a night Club Photographer so I took this camera to the DNA Lounge in SF. I was pushing the camera to it's limit and found the high ISO is not as good at the old 5D, but man on man this camera is FAST. Response time is incredible for low light shooting. The Original 5D in my opinion is still the winner for low light and daylight shooting (have not tried the 5D MII). It's not as fast but the image quality is better. With the 5D correcting color balance & underexposed images is a lot easier due to the quality of the image it puts out (at 12mp). I'm not returning the 7D because I thinks it's a Kick Ass camera. I've owned the Canon Digital Rebel 300D, XT, XTi, 30D & 40D. The 7D blows them away. But as for the 5D...The 5D is in a different class with its full frame sensor.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Canon 7d + 100-400mm IS Zoom Poor for Bird Photography
by gzelych on June 14, 2010
Pros: For large objects the autofocus works well. But smaller low contrast objects ( e.g., anything duck sized or smaller ) come out soft and out of focus approximately 9 times out ot 10!
Cons: Abysmal low contrast focus capability and generally flat, muddy images.
Summary: In my opinion, and significant experience ( several months and several thousands of photos with the 7d and the 100-400mm lens ) Canon really dropped the ball with this cameras poor single ...
Summary: In my opinion, and significant experience ( several months and several thousands of photos with the 7d and the 100-400mm lens ) Canon really dropped the ball with this cameras poor single point, ai servo ( i.e., the best the camera can do ) autofocus capability!
With it's speed ( 8 frame/sec ), crop factor ( 1.6 x ) and a 400 mm zoom ( 640 mm effective ) this pair should be a dream come true for bird photographers. In fact it's abysmal low contrast focus capability and generally flat, muddy images leave me very, very disappointed.3 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Believe the hype!!
by Techulator on March 20, 2010
Pros: Build quality. Image quality. Auto focus. Continuous shooting speed (so fast!). HD video. Great fully-automatic settings for when you give your camera to someone to take a picture of you. Custom settings. Light sensitivity.
Cons: Price and features - really makes the debate between going up to a 5d or down to a 50d or T2i tough. Other than that... none.

Summary: I made the painful decision to upgrade from a Pentax K10D, of which I owned a couple great lenses and equipment for, and switch to Canon. Not that I was caught up in the hype, I just didn't want to invest anymore money in the wrong direction. Canon has great optics and is trusted by pros around the world, why go against the grain? After debating between the 7d and 5d mII, I decided it was a better idea to spend less on my first Canon body and start collecting my L lenses. The 7d will make an excellent 2nd camera one day. Meanwhile, the upgrade was much more substantial than I anticipated... the quality, light sensitivity, auto-focus, display, everything about it, BLOWS my K10D away. No comparison. I just wish I had started with Canon, maybe a Rebel, and started buying lenses a few years ago when I went with Pentax. I don't recommend making a purchase decision derived from comparing apples to oranges. Recognize your budget, and buy a camera that leaves you with enough extra cash to get a great lens for your particular preferences - portrait, sports, landscape, macro, etc., and the additional gear you need - too much to list. You can keep upgrading your camera body until you're completely happy, meanwhile, hopefully by then you've accrued a few great EF lenses.

Summary: This is a fantastic camera for the advanced photographer. The live view is great. The auto focus is fast and flexible using the 19 cross points. The 8fps is un-touchable! I recently shot around Las Vegas and the colors were sharp and brilliant. The only con is that with my 24-70 f2.8L lens, it can be a bit on the heavy side.
I upgraded from the 40D and don't regret it one bit!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: 8fps burst speed, HD Video recording, good menu, easy setup, robust design, Live View and awesome dual Digic4 for decent noise reduction. produce high quality pictures.
Cons: noise reduction in extreme ISO needs improvements, rather heavy, slow AF and response in Live View mode, didn't have a really big frame(APS-C) unlike the Full Frame 5D.

Summary: A very decent SLR. A good choice for first entrance to professional photography. Provide vast flexibility in settings options. Also provide ease in accessing the many tools and facilities from the efficient built menus. Very fast burst enabling sport photographers to capture fast moving objects more easily. Produce a high quality pictures and is one of the best choice among the SLR out there. Plus, price is not that high compare to the other professional SLR, suitable for new professionals.

Summary: This is a great camera to get you into the HDSLR field, but look for another camera body if you are into concert/low light photography as I am. It still works decent, but the noise and color blow-out requires far too much post production for stills. Save your money and get a 5D Mark II.

A powerhouse for high-res photography and HD video.
by ambigous on December 22, 2010
Pros: Large, clear viewfinder and screen. Great auto focusing. Full 1080p 30 fps video! Built-in wireless flash sync. A myriad of control customization possibilities. And... FAST!!!
Cons: The viewfinder diopter adjustment wheel is too small and rigid to easily calibrate while looking through the VF. Steep learning curve for some functions, but with this class of instrument, that's to be expected.
Summary: Excellent value for what you pay. If you're after a great entry-level pro camera, it's hard to go wrong choosing the EOS 7D.

Canon 7D-Top Gun
by digler1 on October 31, 2010
Pros: Top of the line features if you're willing to learn. Most complain because they simply won't except their own limits and learn to tweak or modify each ohoto they take. That in my opinion is what photographers do.
Cons: Since my purchase is relatively new I haven't found any issues with this top of the line Canon. Most Canon pro's probably consider this 7D an excellent tool for a wide-array of photo shoots.
Summary: If you're a beginner, and as I said earlier, there is a huge learning curve in this model, don't lose your enthusiasm if your new and decide to ...
Summary: If you're a beginner, and as I said earlier, there is a huge learning curve in this model, don't lose your enthusiasm if your new and decide to make the leap to this top contender. Pro's look at this Canon as a viable tool for most work. Consider this, most pros make even bigger leaps (Canon Mark series) because they have big dollars to spend. You'll get excellent performance and reliable photos if your a serious photographer and want a top choice portfolio to show off to friends or buyers. Go ahead, look around at other cameras, but I'm fairly confident with every review out there you'll keep coming back to the Canon 7D.
