BEST IN CLASS
by bryanwake on April 17, 2007
Pros: Finally a 2.5" LCD screen, 10.1 Megapixels, Decent price for an SLR
Cons: Owner's manual could have been a little more detailed

Summary: I don't understand why this camera got a strike against it, in the editor's review, by eliminating the monochrome LCD screen and widening the main LCD monitor to 2.5 inches. This is one of the camera's best features. I actually upgraded from last years model (the XT) to the Canon Rebel XTi because of the 2.5" LCD screen.
Another thing I have to mention is the fact that this camera is ALWAYS compared to the Nikon D80, which in my opinion is unfair. The Canon Digital Rebel XTi should be compared to the Nikon D40x. It seems that whenever Canon comes out with a new camera model there's always a Nikon fanatic ready to undermine it without so much as a second look. I don't mean to belittle Nikon, but lets keep the fights in the proper weight class.
I give the Canon Digital Rebel XTi a perfect 10 because:
- Best SLR in class (I think it's only fair to point out that when comparing the Canon Digital Rebel XTi to the Nikon D40x the Rebel far out does the opposition)
- Price (especially online) is an outstanding value
- 2.5-inch LCD monitor
- 0.2 start up time
- 10.1 megapixels (they just keep going up)
- New ergonomic grip (much better feel to it than the XT)
- Self-cleaning sensor unit (Canon has finally acknowledged the dust problem)5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice improvements over Digital Rebel XT, but not a replacement for its current users.

Summary: The Digital Rebel XTi is a minor update to the XT with several incremental improvements. The 9-point AF and anti-dust features are welcome, but the rest contribute more to marketing or UI than actual convenience or performance. The picture styles and auto-off LCD strike me as a bit gimmicky, the larger LCD is nice but not terribly important, and few people are going to want to shoot 27 JPEGs in a row, although the 10 frame RAW buffer might be useful. If you already have a Digital Rebel XT, keep it. Otherwise, the XTi is an excellent choice.

Superlative performance in a lightweight, small form size 10MP camera.
by pmorrisn on April 11, 2007
Pros: Size, weight, handling, rear screen, image quality, flash performance, easy menus, RC-1 remote compatability,
Cons: One button access to mirror lockup without using menus. But, for the price, no Cons.

Summary: The XT was an excellent camera, the XTi is a superb camera. The change to the rear information screen is brilliant and I hope it's something Canon continues with in the 30D series of cameras. For hiking/backpacking/travelling, the XTi has no equal. It is an outstanding 'second body' for serious photographers, although that maybe makes the XTi sound less capable than what it is. I've looked at smaller DSLR cameras for travel purposes, but can't see any reason not to use this one. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. One big advantage over other Canon digital cameras (20D/30D in particular) is when using the RC-1 remote control for mirror lockup landscapes. I have never had any trouble with the new On/Off switch being turned on by mistake and even if it should happen, the camera turns off automatically. The battery life from the tiny rechargeable battery is very good and it recharges very fast, as well. The menus are very simple to use and easy to read even for someone with poor eyesight, like myself.

Summary: There is one thing people buy DSLRS for - picture quality. To get more you would need to go for the Canon 5D, this camera is better then all the Nikons.
The handling is great and the functionality impressive. Its easy to use as a walkabout camera. For people with huge wrists, they can buy the BF-3 grip.
The Nikon D80 is nicer to hold for folk with big hands and it has spot metering. But its much more expensive and much heavier. in my view most of the admiration for the D80 is support of the underdog.
If you want a small, good value, lightweight DSLR with perfect pic. quality, but one of these. Just junk the kit lens and buy a 17-85IS or something like that

Canon does it again!
by saradelaney on April 18, 2007
Pros: pictures are just as sharp as the Canon D30, decent kit lens, fairly priced
Cons: So far nothing...

I decided to try my hand in the Canon DSLR world and have not been disappointed. The images that this camera takes are the sharpest I've ever seen. The "red-eye" photos that I have been used to all these years are a thing of the past.
The Canon Rebel XTI is the best camera I have ever owned. I hope to shoot with it for years to come.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is my second Canon digital rebel. A follow up to the first digital rebel. For what we use the camera for it works great. I could see getting a better camera if I were to do any Professional shooting. I really like the larger LCD screen. It needs better metering though, I have to adjust the exposure for indoor shots. Overall still a great digital SLR!!

Good entry level DSLR
by MightyWarMonger on March 7, 2009
Pros: I like the moderate price, ease of use for the overal operation of the camera, and all the buttons seem to be in an easy to reach and use position as well. Picture qualtiy is great as well as I find it not to heavy for off tripod shooting.
Cons: As stated in the editors reveiw the LCD screen going off and on as the camera comes to you're face is a bit destracting but can be turned off, Also it would have been nice to have a live veiw option for the LCD but not really an issue for me.

Summary: I am new to photography and bought this camera a year ago because I wanted to get better pictures and decided to step into the DSLR world. Granted my knowlage is still limited but I found this as a beginner to be well suted to my skill level. The genral ease and use of the camera is great you can select from a wide veriaty of modes to shoot from and as you get better you can use the manual settings and start realy getting into the camera options and better utilise the cameras potental. The picture quality is superb, I like the display in the veiw finder so while shooting I can easaly see the settings and change them if necicary without having to look away from what I'm shooting. also the battery life seemed to be pretty good I don't find myself needing to recharge the batterys all the time, also I have the battery pack witch helps with that and also makles the camera fit better for any one that has large hands.

Great but to small.

Summary: I guess I shouldn't complain to much since I use this camera as a back-up for my 40D. A lot of users like a compact SLR, but this one is to compact for my hands. If you're a user with small hands, this is a camera that will grow with you. It's a great SLR to use when getting into digital SLR shooting. It is also very capable for professional use as a back-up or serious amateur use. This camera looks very professional when you add the battery grip to it, but if you're upgrading from an original Digital Rebel your old grip won't fit. For about twice the price you can get the 40D, which is worth it for me.

A great all-around camera
by pentapus on October 10, 2007
Pros: Large preview screen, lots of lense options. Great first pro-sumer option.
Cons: fundamentally not a big change from the XT
Summary: Save your money for a 40D, or if you need portability, get the Rebel XT used for much cheaper and put the money you saved into a better lense.
