Lousy image quality -many spoiled shots.
by tatpuddy1 on July 17, 2011
Pros: Cheap, takes AA batteries, has optical viewfinder. Takes nice quality video - in FULL sunlight, and only while zoomed out.
Cons: Many photos end up completely out of focus. There is no manual focus control. When you use the flash many times the foreground is overexposed, while the background is pitch black. While zoomed in while taking video (using only the 4x optical zoom), so

Summary: Many of the photos i take appear okay in the lcd display and when i put them on my computer, many of them are out of focus, or too dark, or very grainy - in otherwords - RUINED! This is like 35mm days when you have to wait for development to see how many shots you ruined - the difference now is the CAMERA ruined the shots not you!
There is only 1 high speed shutter mode i can find and for some reason it drops the mega-pixel count to 2MP!! Why did i buy a 12 MP camera? In low light mode it also drops down the picture size to 2MP!
Many photos.vids i take in low light, when i go to transfer them to my computer i get an error "cannot render image", and the image cannot be edited or opened. Not sure if this is the memory card or camera - but either way because it is quicktime, you have very little options in terms of software to try to fix the images.
Again i have to mention that there is a serious focusing problem with this camera. i have ruined many important shots and am very upset as some of them are irreplaceable. This is not a case of "you get what you pay for", this is a Canon product that is expected to have a certain level of useability. I dont call losing maybe 10-20% of my photos getting what i paid for. My previous camera was an old low-end 6MP Olympus that took photos that blow this camera away. 3 months after buying this model, it had a stuck pixel that came out in the final image as a bright red light.. They gave me a new one and it has all the same issues (not the stuck pixel) as the previous one. It clearly is a design/quality problem. I am going to contact my store to see if i can take it back and buy a better camera.
Made in China eh? How is that working out for you now Canon?!0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Canon is going Made in China....
by Csipa1 on May 11, 2011
Pros: Price is the only pro if you can look over everything else...
Cons: 1/10 in everything except the price. Canon should keep manufacturing in Japan, sell them for more but keep the quality...

seems to be as advertised but no manual controls at all
by AAArg_ink on March 7, 2011
Pros: small, AA batteries, cheap, optical viewfinder
Cons: absolutely no control over the shutter speed / aperture. Its a pure point and shoot.
Summary: It is what it is, I have no complaints per se, but I really do wish it had some manual controls. Even a basic "Program" mode like you see on ...
Summary: It is what it is, I have no complaints per se, but I really do wish it had some manual controls. Even a basic "Program" mode like you see on an SLR that lets you adjust the aperature/shutter speed would have made this a much better user experience for someone remotely used to having those controls. As it is, all you have control over is the ISO.
