Leaked and stopped working 2nd time in the water
by efraimw on July 13, 2009
Pros: I was excited to get the camera while in Hawaii as the disposible underwater cameras are awful. Picture quality was very good. Easy to transfer pictures to computer.
Cons: It leaked water into the lens the 2nd time in the water. It no longer worked after that. Support so far has been terrible.
Summary: Be very careful of the warranty on this product. I contacted Canon support and after being transferred to a supervisor I was told the warranty does not cover "water damage, ...
Summary: Be very careful of the warranty on this product. I contacted Canon support and after being transferred to a supervisor I was told the warranty does not cover "water damage, sand/corrosion damage ... dropping the camera." I could not believe this so I looked at the warranty card included with the camera and sure enough that's exactly what it says. Canon does not warranty a camera that is designed to go in the water against water damage??? Or against dropping when they say the camera can survive drops of up to 4 feet??? My only choice right now is to send the camera in to Canon and hope they will fix/replace the camera or I'll have paid $350 for one day in the water.

well i just returned from my wonderful cruise vacation...........And I can tell you that the canon D10 performed Flawlessy.....we went swiming with stingrays in the cayman Island....I shot underwater video as well as stills.........I cant say enough good things about this camera
Updated on Dec 23, 2009
if you look on amazon on aprox page six of the d 10 reviews you can see some of the video I posted.....the only thing I reccomend is that you soak the camera in fresh water for about 30 min. after you have been in the ocean, And make sure all the hatches are properly closed..
If you do that..you will truly enjoy this camera

Camera has done been through tons and is still amazing!
by Sammytutu on February 13, 2011
Pros: Both myself and my husband are notoriously hard on electronics. This camera has made it through mud and quadding, in swimming pools, snorkelling, swimming with dolphins, drunken picture snapping....and so much more.
Cons: I dislike how it comes with a battery charger where you can take out the battery and charge it, but not one to just plug it in with the battery still in it. Very inconvenient for when you want to take more video than your battery life will allow.

Summary: As I said before, this camera has been through nearly everything. In a house where the average lifespan of an iPod or cellphone is 6 months max, this camera has survived for two and a half years. It's very easy to use, takes wonderful pictures, and lives through things I never would have dared to take a camera near before this one. I recommend this camera to everyone looking for a waterproof and shockproof camera. There are a lot of little things I love about this camera as well. I enjoy how you can choose which corner the wrist strap is on, and despite some others saying it's funny looking, I quite enjoy the changeable faceplates.

Great Under Water Camera
by weese1 on July 31, 2009
Pros: Great pictures and videos in and out of the water. Worked as advertised. Rugged, great picture quality.
Cons: Fat compared to most point and shoot digital cameras. View screen did not break with abuse, but did scratch. Has trouble in low light situations.

Summary: I bought this camera the day it came out for my trip to St. Thomas. The canon d10 delivered as promised. I took the camera out snorkeling at least 10 times. I was always careful to soak the camera in fresh water when I got back to the hotel room as described in the manual. This is to get any potential salt deposits off the camera.
As a result I have great pictures of Reef Squid & Octopus, Sea Turtles and multiple fish of various colors. Best of all are the shots of my 12 year old experiencing these things for the first time. The camera is fast to power up and ready to take a shot almost instantly. The controls are very easy to use while under water. Everything is done via buttons that are labeled clearly.
The kids took the camera with them to the pool and we now have very creative video of them jumping in and out of the water while having the camera strapped to their wrists. I would toss the camera in the snorkel gear bag and not think twice about it. It has a few battle scars from being tossed around, but this has not affected it at all.
While in the water I found I had to turn the screen brightness all the way up to see clearly. This helped to drain the battery faster. Even with that the battery lasted longer than I could in the water. I had bought a spare battery and the combination of the 2 made the camera last all day.
My only complaint would be the camera's ability in low light situations. It had a very hard time focusing and once it did the shots are not great. They lack the crispness and color that the day time and underwater shots had.
I am glad that I had made this purchase. The camera is everything I expected it to be. Kudos to Canon for making a great product and helping me preserve great memories from my trip.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not worth the money, too many issues!

Summary: I have had many issues with this product. The camera was typical of an underwater camera, but the issues and service were not. A year after getting the camera there was an error with a sensor that required service. Canon charges about $190 for service, regardless of how simple the issue is to solve. I fixed it and thought that would be the end of the problems. I had not exposed the camera to the water since the Canon factory service. On our honeymoon I checked the seal and went into the water to snorkel. I brought it into the water has I had before the service and it would not turn on; I looked at it carefully and was horrified to find that water was inside the camera. I inspected the seal and could find no cause. The camera was ruined. We have come to the conclusion that when the Canon serviced the camera it did not retain the waterproof quality. I have spent hours dealing with rude representatives and dealing with the run around. In the end Canon refused to stand behind their work and I refuse to pay for their mistake. I recommend spending your money on a different brand's waterproof camera.

leaked after 4th use. Warranty is not covered.
by loosecabooseus on March 14, 2012
Pros: camera is fast.
Cons: clunky. buttons are difficult. LEAKS!
Summary: I wouldn't recommend this camera to anyone because it doesn't do what Canon claims. It is nut reliably waterproof, so use at your own risk.

Takes great photos on land and underwater (and video), but leaks consistently (snorkeling in 3m of water). Canon service was ordinary. A good friend of mine had same problem - it leaked and could no longer be used for underwater activities. Pretty disappointing for a $550 camera. I think the only way to go is to buy a 'waterproof' camera and a housing to go with it.
I won't buy canon again due to this issue. -

Last week, while swimming, water leaked in through the AV outlet.
I was shocked as a $250 camera should last longer than 11months.
I sent it to the manufacturer and I've been told the warranty does not include water leak!!! and had to pay $200 to have it fixed.
As a canon lover, my first camera was a Canon A1, I'm deeply dissapointed.
Anyone thinking of purchasing a D10, think about it twice!!!
Canon deeply fails with this camera as well as with the customer service provided. -
This camera is not shockproof as advertised!!!
by cwile on December 14, 2011
Pros: Easy to use and it takes good photos. Mine does seem to be waterproof, but I know others have had issues with this.
Cons: I dropped the camera from 2' and the rear view finder cracked. Not at all shock proof and Canon has indicated that this is not covered by warranty. They actually said it is only shock resistant under certain conditions!
Summary: The Canon customer service supervisor was very rude and not at all helpful. He did offer that I could have this repaired for $179! No thanks. Do not waste your ...
Summary: The Canon customer service supervisor was very rude and not at all helpful. He did offer that I could have this repaired for $179! No thanks. Do not waste your money purchasing this camera. It is not shock proof, not shock resistant and has virtually no warranty to back up Canons false claim of being shockproof. Purchase a less expensive camera and invest in a comprehensive extended warranty instead. No more Canon products for me.
