The good: Attractive and well-designed; capable of producing very nice photos; complete set of manual controls; solid 720p video.
The bad: On the slow side, with subpar battery life; no low-compression JPEG option.
The bottom line: Though we'd like it to perform better, dSLR shooters looking for a sidekick camera will find the Canon PowerShot S95's top-flight photos and a full manual feature set worth the tradeoff of its compact size.

Best Compact Digicam on the Market
by mindbodyspirit on November 19, 2010
Pros: I love it's size and quality of the photos as well as the video and full stereo audio.
Cons: It is the smallest so you have to be sure not to sit on it accidentally!
Summary: I also have the Canon Digital Rebel but I can't take it everywhere like I can the s95</a&...
Summary: I also have the Canon Digital Rebel but I can't take it everywhere like I can the s95. The pictures are so beautiful and crisp even in low light. Close up's are real easy and not blurred at all. For an inexpensive camera that performs like an SLR I think the s95 is the way to go.

Not terribly intuitive, but very flexible
by eabraham on April 11, 2011
Pros: Good in low light; lots of features; can be taken from fully automatic to very programmable. I'm assuming that when I am able to spend more time learning it, the focusing issues will be minimized.
Cons: Video can't deal with bass at all - a problem that I had experienced in much earlier models but that I didn't have in my other recent Canons. Why is it back? I wanted ONE camera I could use for most situations, but the video problem means I can't do video

Summary: Although I've had it a few months, I haven't been able to take the time to really learn all the functions. I mistakenly thought that being a long-time Canon owner would make the controls more intuitive than I find them. So - although I've been getting disappointing results, I'm going to guess that a lot of that is my own fault

Wow, what a surprise!
by steinberg77 on December 16, 2010
Pros: My sis got this as a gift and it is really very good
Cons: looks ordinary
Summary: Takes pictures 100 times way better than my new Nokia N8 phonecamera! The consistency and the overall quality is truly satisfying, so easy to point and shoot. Not expensive too.

Why I would not buy this or many other great DSLR with
by georgedid on March 4, 2011
Pros: I am sure canons pix are as good as any canon I have owned.
Cons: out a view finder. Anyone who really wants to take a picture of what you actually see needs a view finder. My old canon A75 had one and I take better pics with it than my new canon without the view finder.
Summary: The higher end EOS rebel has one. Most higher ends do. Canon, are you listening? I used both my canons on a recent trip to Italy and the A75 actually ...
Summary: The higher end EOS rebel has one. Most higher ends do. Canon, are you listening? I used both my canons on a recent trip to Italy and the A75 actually got me better, more stable pics than the canon using only the LCD dispaly. It was also more stable aplatform that allowed me to shoot faster and more accurately.
