The bad: Mixed performance; no optical zoom in Movie mode.

A solid megazoom with great images.
by tomserwin on July 11, 2009
Pros: A great optical zoom, manual controls, pop-up flash, great images, and a fairly compact size given it's large lense. It has fun and practical features.
Cons: May be too bulky for some users and some may not like the pop-up flash.
Summary: While very compact for a 12x optical zoom, it is still larger than other point-and-shoots on the market, especially when compared to something like the Canon Powershot SD780 IS. However, ...
Summary: While very compact for a 12x optical zoom, it is still larger than other point-and-shoots on the market, especially when compared to something like the Canon Powershot SD780 IS. However, it is relatively compact for what this camera does. it performs very well for a point-and-shoot and will out perform the smaller Canons. Personally, I prefer it over it's Panasonic competitor. Overall, it's a great camera.

This camera is great for almost anything you want to do
by Malafe6925 on June 10, 2009
Pros: Great auto feature, cool color accent, great video recording with barely any noise filtering, fast working zoom, 2 second start up... battery is so so, lasted pretty long
Cons: A bit bulky, manual doesnt help much you figure stuff out on your own

Error message and the lens wouldn't retract
by lars364 on June 16, 2009
Pros: The camera took really great pictures, especially outside. I took a few at my daughters pre-school graduation that weren't so good. It was inside and from a distance, the pictures were very dark and fuzzy.
Cons: Error Message. Within a week of using this camea, I got a lens error message and the lens would not retract. I was finally able to get the lens to retract by pushing (forcing) it to close.
Summary: From my research about this fatal error message (Lens Error:Restart Camera), once you get that, your camera is on it's last legs. It's very expensive to fix ...

Shutter Lag???
by kingtrac on May 29, 2010
Pros: I really went for this camera once I noticed the zoom length combined with the small size of the camera. This camera should allow me to take a carry light on an airplane for a trip to my home town while allowing me to take scenics and family pix.
Cons: SHUTTER LAG!!! Has anyone else had prolems with a very long shutter lag? By the time the camera actually takes the image the child has been gone for ten minutes.
Summary: If I can get the shutter lage problem worked out I will be VERY happy with this camera. I have always been Happy with Canon Cameras (Since 1981).

Great Pictures - Terrible Audio
by janisfred on July 31, 2011
Pros: Pictures are clear and sharp. Plenty of options for those who don't want to use the manual settings.
Cons: Can't take pictures in RAW, and the audio portion of the video is just plain awful. It's ok at recording conversation, but if you try to record anything where the decibel level is high (concert, sporting events) - the audio will be almost inaudible
Summary: Buy it for the great images and video - but be wary if you plan to use this as your primary video caamera

Love it!! High-quality pics and an amazing mega zoom.
by deedisanto on November 14, 2010
Pros: Great for everything! Landscapes, concerts, close-ups, people shots. The zoom is unreal and it always produces high quality pictures. HD video is amazing and works great with the zoom. Battery life is excellent. Makes you feel like a professional!
Cons: Being bulky can sometimes be an inconvenience but for me I think it just adds to the feel that it isn't your average camera. Pop up flash gives it an old school feel which I love but others may not.

Summary: I've had this camera for a year and have taken it to a ton of concerts, vacations, and have used it around the city. It always produces quality pictures and videos and I can't stress enough how amazing the 12x optical zoom is. At a concert, for example, I can use it from lawn seats at an arena and get a clear shot of the stage and the performers that will make it seem like I was 10 rows away. I've never had any issues using it and am constantly recommending it to people because for the price it is so, so worth it.

Excellent camera, but treat it with care!
by brackendale on September 15, 2010
Pros: Our family snaps are a huge step up from the Cybershot (obviously) but the video, image stabilizer and optical zoom is really great. I have used it for night time sports events and with the zoom have produced great shots that I use in sales briefs.
Cons: Like I said, the lens is delicate. I agree with other reviews that the flash is inconveniently placed. But hats all. No software problems.
Summary: The HUGE retractable lens is it's strength, but is also it's Achilles heel.

Summary: Had the camera for about five hours. Spent two hours charging the battery and then took five or six pictures before it froze up on me with the lens sticking all the way out. "Lens error, restart camera" Tomorrow I am taking this back and I don't think I will bother getting a replacement canon product. I will post more on my website as things develop.

Excellent pics, excellent video, horrible sound.
by hgagnon on January 29, 2010
Pros: Pictures qulity is the best I ever took from such a small size camera. Easy to use but to get the really got ones, manual setting is preferable. Video is great, and does zoom no problem, while filming.
Cons: TERRIBLE MICROPHONE, anything louder than 10db sound like cr^^^. I just used it yesterday at a cincert and the sound is HORRIBLE. My old little Sonay 3.5 camera had a great sound in any condition.
Summary: I am really satisfied as for the pictures I took. I will keep it for the pictures, but I definitly will have to find something else for the video/sound ...
