The good: 5X optical zoom; 22 Best Shot settings; automatic macro; zoom is fully functional during video recording; 5-second buffer for late-reaction video shots.
The bad: Doesn't perform well in low light; zoom is sometimes audible on video recordings; can be awkward for large hands to grasp.
The bottom line: This camera comes close to successfully combining high-quality photos with acceptable-quality video.

Excellent Choice with Great Photo & Movie Capturing Capability
by shasahoo on June 22, 2005
Pros: High quality stills; DV quality movie clips; super strong battery life; light weight; SLR look, 22 preset modes; what else do you want from this compact digital that's like having 2 cameras in 1?
Cons: Little bit extra noise while capturing video is acceptable

Awesome camera with awesome capabilities!
by crazy4reptiles on August 19, 2005
Pros: Great zoom function, extremely compact and lightweight, simple design and easy to operate.

Summary: I highly recommend this camera to those who seek a digital camera with great picture resolution as well as high end video capabilities in a very compact package. All options are easily accessible and easy to navigate and customize. Attach this device to a tripod and use it for taking pictures of the moon or taking pictures of objects as small as a thimble. There are numerous parts which you can buy for this camera (you just have to search for them) including a zoom lens and wide angle lens and filters for different lighting. Once you learn how to use the functions you'll be amazed at what this little cam can do! My only complaint is the lack of an optical viewfinder. The LCD is very hard to see in bright light so a little hand-shading is required outdoors when the sun is overhead.

Almost perfect camera at an affordable price!
by rudyespinosa on October 14, 2005
Pros: Size is small yet heavy enough to feel sturdy. Adjustable LCD, easy and quick menu access, threaded lens allows direct attachments without adapters. 30fps VGA movies
Cons: Image quality is not as good as my previous Canon. No AF Asssit Lamp. No image stabilzation and only 5x zoom

Summary: I was a loyal Canon camera owner and decided to got with this camera because it still has the LCD that I can move around and I believe it was a bit quicker than the S2 Is that I also considered. I definitley miss the great image quality that I was used to without really trying. However, I gained ALOT. First off, many reviews point out that the images on this model are dull, but I like them. In fact, I hated my Black & White pictures on my Canon because everyone looked like they had shiny sweat on them. Also, I wanted a faster shutter response and the reviews all claimed the Casio was faster. I noticed that other Canon models could beat this Casio model in shutter response but I would also loose the swiveling LCD, which I use a lot and I can't see myself using a camera without after getting spoiled by it. I also hardly used my menu options in my old Canon because it was difficult to get to (though they are supposed to be some of the best). The casio in my opinion blows it away. The casio has soooo many neat features. Such as colored filters that I can enable in both the snapshot to movie mode! I also purchased several lens filters for it and feel like I have a miniature SLR with tons of attachments! I encourage you to read all the reviews that you can find. All the negatives on this camera are somewhat true but they don't apply to me. For example, the ISO noise. Just about every digital cameras in this price range has noise past the lowest ISO so I don't understand why any reviewers even bother to spend so much time on the subject. There is a menu choice that allows you to see every piece of information but almost all reviews claim it is useless. I find it to not only look cool, but I finally am learning due it and it again allows me to easily make adjustments that I never knew about. I laugh when I see the reviews knock it on price. Why don't they mention that no other model could touch its features when it came out. Since then, the price has dropped. Only afterwards did you really see the 12x zoom and image stablization on digital cameras. I hope Casio comes out with a new model that builds on this one and improves the image quality. I think this is a great camera if you are an rookie that is hoping to have a lot of fun learning photograhy. Almost forgot, the bad reviews claim you can't use the zoom on the camera because it is too noisy when you film a movie. I disagree. It is probably one of the quitest out there!

Summary: Has 22 Best Shot Options, Along With 5 Best Shot Options On Movie Mode Which I Take Full Advantage Of. The Picture Quality Is Excellent, And It Is What I've Been Looking For For Quite A While Now. I'm A Big Photo Editing Person, So The Contrast, Even With The Flash, Was Perfect. In Other Words, There Wasn't An Overwhelming Amount Of Excess Color. The Movie Mode Is Beautiful In Good To Average Lighting, And Even In Low Light (I.E When I Take It To The Bars) It's Better Than I Expected As Long As You Use The "Night Scene" Mode. Also, The LCD Screen Is Very Nice In Sun And Darkness, Even Though Some Other People Disagree. The Only Bad Things About It That I Can Think Of Is That I Get A Lot Of Red Eye Shots, But This Really Isn't A Problem Because I Just Edit It Out. It Also Gets Extremely Speckled When You're Shooting Movies In A Light That's Very Dim - But I Really Am Just Nit-Picking Because There Really Is No Other Camera Like This That Is Of As High Quality (In This Price Range) As The EX-P505. Great For People Who Are Trying To Advance In Their Camera/Movie Taking Abilities.

Excellent Camera for price and performance
by surfin1956 on March 27, 2006
Pros: Still Quality, Zoom w/Video, Best shot setting, manual options

Summary: Having owned 5 different digital cameras now, this one is by far the best. I really like the 22 BEST shot pre-sets for the still and yet I still have manual control to tune them alittle. The ability to zoom while videoing is another reason I wanted this camera. Having the ability to change the shutter time up to 60 sec gives me a way to help overcome the low light neg affect (of course you have to keep the camera still). I have 512 meg SD card installed and it gives me 16 minutes of 640 X 480 Video. I like to ski and carry my camera with me for those action skiing shots, the size of this camera makes it easy to pocket it and handle it. Awesome camera for this price range.
