Decent camera when it worked
by tjemartin on December 20, 2008
Pros: decent images
records short mpeg movies /w sound
decent size screen
easy to use menusCons: does not use a manual lens cover as the automatic lens cover/shutter will work for a while then either stay open or closed and costs about $200 to fix
Summary: Like title says was a decent camera while it worked...Not worth $200 to get the gears for the lens shutter fixed since it cost twice that when I bought ...
Summary: Like title says was a decent camera while it worked...Not worth $200 to get the gears for the lens shutter fixed since it cost twice that when I bought the camera new back in late 2003. Would not buy this camera again if I had the chance. Sony is just out for your $$ especially when it costs more to fix than what the camera is worth now. Just stay away

A great camera for beginners!!
by eddiettr-209527310311673631407 on December 29, 2005
Pros: Ergonomic, good quality in daylight, small, easy to use, highish quality movies with sound
Cons: Not great night and landscape quality, a few glitches but nothing major

Summary: I've taken thousands and thousands of photos with my DSC-P72, and, quite frankly, it's great. It was my first digital camera, and some of the photos it's taken are really quite good. Yes, it has glitched occasionally, and filled the screen with random colours, pulled the lens in when I turned it on, and shot it out again when I turn it off (quite funny, I think all cameras should have that as a game mode), or corrupted a few photos, but if I took the batteries out, and waited a few minutes, it's always sorted itself out. Now I think I'm getting better at taking photos, I might move on to something a big bigger, maybe one of those 18 MP SLRs?
If you're new to digital photography, go for it. -
a cheap and chearful digital still camera.
by lylatwars19 on December 23, 2005
Pros: it has ae illuminator which gives me the chance to take night time photos, 3x zoom, easy to use, lightweight.
Cons: although ae illuminator makes night time photos better it is far from perfect, 16mb memory stick, doesnt come with a tripod and the only tripods you can get for it are not that big.
Summary: i think this is a great camera for beginners who just want to take photos of birthdays christmas's and of their holidays but not suitable for professionals.

Overall, good
by tech_fan on December 4, 2005
Pros: Good for the price, records video, nice LCD screen, uses regular AA batteries, nice picture
Cons: a bit bulky, horrible battery life, gets weird when low on batteries, sometimes takes a long time to take picture

Summary: Overall, I like this camera. It looked a lot smaller in the pictures so I was a little disappointed to find that it was as big as it is, but it's not horribly big, you just can't fit it in your pocket.
It takes beautiful pictures, although sometimes it can take its time doing it. If there's not as much light as it wants, it takes a long time, but if there's plenty of light, it's quick.
Don't lose the rechargable batteries because if you use regular AA batteries, the life on them is HORRIBLE. absolutely horrible. Even with the rechargables, it's not that great.
It gets a little weird when it's low on batteries. If I press the power butten, the lens comes out, then turns itself off. If you turn it back on, the lens goes back in, then comes back out and turns itself off again. That's your indication to recharge the batteries.
My biggest complaint is the battery life. And also how it only comes with a 16MB thing. I bought a 512MB that i use for big trips and I use the 16MB for every day use.
I love how it uses regular AA batteries. I don't have to go out searching for the special camera battery like in cameras that use film.
Overall, it's good if you just like taking pictures of friends, trips, etc. It's a good amateur camera. -
Camera does not focus very well

Summary: I've owned several Sony products and have usually been happy with them. I've also owned Olympus digital cameras, and replaced this Sony with a Fuji S3100. This camera will not focus predictably. I get blurs, fuzzies, but its not "all the time". I've done factory resets, tried different "non-auto" settings to no avail. I would choose my old 1.3 megapixel Olympus over this camera. Especially poor at taking good pictures with no flash in low lighting compared to my Olympus and Fuji cameras-- the kind I always want to get to capture the lighting and mood of a dinner, wedding, night by the river, etc. For the stats of the camera including megapixels and zoom, there are many much smaller cameras available. I was told there were two runs of this camera, the first having a CCD issue, I do not know if that is true, but the one I have definitely stinks. I come from 35MM SLR background and this is my 4th digital camera so I'm confident it was not user error.

Summary: i had this camera for over 2 years when it somehoe mysteriously started taking pictures that were long and distorted. i didn't drop it or abuse it in any way. i thought that was odd that it happened right after the warranty had expired. anyway, i like it when it was working. too bad nobody can tell me what's wrong with it and it's worthless to me now. also, i guess it turned out to be bigger than i had hoped.

OK Camera (best for outdoors)
by Tec Consumer on June 6, 2005
Pros: Style, video mode, lots of settings, rechargeable
Cons: Poor indoor performance, expensive memory sticks--need another if you want more than 9 or 10 pics, flash takes as long as an old 110 to recharge it self
Summary: If you're looking for a high performance point and shoot this is not it. Almost every other camera I have seen in this price range is better--especially indoors.
Got ...Summary: If you're looking for a high performance point and shoot this is not it. Almost every other camera I have seen in this price range is better--especially indoors.
Got this as an inexpensive in case I lose it or forget it back up camera before going on vacation. Takes great (really great) pictures on the beach and fishing. Takes bad pictures indoors--especially in large indoor spaces. If you lower the film speed to 100 or 200 you can get nice indoor low light pics, if the space is large the background will not show up very well, but sometimes looks OK in smaller spaces on the high flash setting. The auto setting does an all around bad job indoors in incandescent and other artificial light. It's best to adjust the white balance and film speed manually for indoor shots like holidays and parties. Most indoor pics are too yellowish. Outdoor night time pics somehow come out very good, though.
4 x 6 and 5 x 7 print detail is probably better than 35mm if the devolping is done on good equipment, but that's probably the developing not the camera.
Video mode works very good outdoors, but memory sticks are expensive and you need a really big one for video.
There are lots of newer, better cameras on the market. Canon cameras are probably the best under $400. -
Does the job.
by siquedude on April 4, 2005
Pros: Takes longer video than it's canon counterparts.
Cons: Memory card not compatible with it's counterparts.
Summary: No complaints, no highlights!
