Very good Camera, BUT...
by RawDogg on May 4, 2005
Pros: Ultra Fast Start up - 6 and 12 Mega Pixel shots
Cons: No Super Macro like the E510
Summary: This is my 7th Fuji Digital Camera. As you can see I like Fuji. I've owned the following Fuji FinePix Digital Cameras:
1. 2800Zoom: Rating 9.0

1. 2800Zoom: Rating 9.0
2. 3800Zoom: Rating 7.0
3. A205: Rating 3.0
4. E510: Rating 8.0
5. S5000: Rating 8.0
6. S7000: Rating 9.0 (Still own it)
7. E550: 8.5 (Still own it)
I sold the E510 for the E550. The only thing I miss is the Super Macro Mode. This camera super fast between shot and it has an Ultra Fast startup time which is about 1 second which is truly amazing. So if you need to get a shot off quick you can do it with the E550. The Photo Quality is very good like my S7000. I have more control with my S7000 but I bought the E550 to carry with me where ever I go, and for the 6 / 12 mega pixel capability and the outstanding 640x480 video quality.
This is perfect for Birthday parties, Quick shot & Family gatherings or where ever a bulking camera like the S7000 would get in the way. It?s very fast, very easy to use and very good picture quality. The flash isn?t the best for distant shots but no camera with a pop-up flash is. Not even my S7000, it has a pop-up and hot shoe for external flash.
Bottom line you?ll be thrilled with it. After all the Fuji cameras I?ve been through, I?m very happy with the Fuji FinePix E550.23 out of 23 users found this user opinion helpful.

Zoom Error kills this camera
by cgathm on April 1, 2005

Summary: I owned this camera for 4 months and enjoyed using it when it worked, but it did have some drawbacks. At times the lens wouldn't retract & originally I thought it was due to low battery power (with battery replacement, the lens would then retract). But after 4 months, I got a "Zoom Error" and the lens wouldn't retract at all until I tried powering up & down a few times. The flash has to be opened manually, so if you forget, you might miss a shot. The xD card is expensive (the one that comes with the camera is only 16mb-terrible for a 6 MP camera with video) and is still not very common, so it's incompatible with many systems. It has a macro feature, but the image tends to be distorted. On the up side, it's reasonably priced, has great shutter speed, nice LCD, takes sharp pictures and has good video resolution. Unfortunately, the lens problem nixes this camera for me.

Excellent Photos, Great Features
by jason101other on June 10, 2005
Pros: It is very easy to take great shots with this camera. Excellent picture quality, lots of features, well-rounded.
Cons: I don't find any cons to this camera, except maybe that it is not super compact.

Summary: This camera is outstanding, and I can't really imagine another point and shoot camera being much better. I like the look, the feel, the functions and the picture quality on this camera. I don't think it's worth paying the extra money for the powershot sd400 or sd500, when this camera provides all that I want in a digital camera.

Good camera, but NOT perfect.

Summary: This is a great camera to own, but be aware it has it's shortcomings. My biggest disappointment w/ this camera is the flash, it probably has something to do with the camera only using 2 AA batteries (not enough juice), but sometimes flash does not fire when it should even w/ fully charged batteries. Other then that produces exceptional images, fast operation and saving time. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy Canon S60 or its smaller brother A95. Either way FinePix E550 is not a bad camera, especially considering the price. I paid 300 w/ extra memory card and various accessories.

Good photo and video quaility but questionable zoom and customer service

Summary: I purchased this camera in April, 2005, and did enjoy the high quaility of photo and video. However, the camera was broken within one month. The zoom was stuck and it showed zoom error on the screen. I think this is the common issue for Fujifilm products because my previous Fujifilm camera, A303, had the same problem. Since my camera was broken within one month, it is still under manufacturer warranty. So I shipped the camera back to the manufacturer for repair in May. Since then, I have tried to call them 5 times, and the only answer is they received the camera and wait for repair. It is ridiculour that my camrea is sitting there for two months and hasn't been fixed. They should definitely improve the customer service.

Summary: The small video file they did on this camera is a laugh. They don?t even touch on the really cool aspects of this camera. First is the fact you can use filters with this camera. Buy the Fuji add on filter nose and you can put any type of filter you want on this. This small portable camera has every manual professional feature I can think of. You can control all aspects of the picture with shutter speed, exposure ect. Coupled with the fact you can put filters on makes this camera awesome. I was thinking about getting a D70 Nikon but this camera does everything I will ever need.
Artifacts? What am I a friggin archeologist or something? What are these artifacts people keep talking about in the pictures? I haven?t seen any. Is it possible someone got a pre-release camera and wrote a review that everyone copied? I have taken over 100 pictures and have not seen on ?artifact?. Im still waiting for the lost Ark to pop up in one of the pictures I take.
The one bad thing? xD memory cards. It begs the question why?8 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

love all the options
by Ram41 on April 7, 2005
Pros: I was able to capture shots with this unit that I would never try to get with my other camera.

Summary: After several readings of the hand book I was able to use most of the advanced features. I found it great to be able to jump from auto to manual features forcing the camera to do as I wanted. Five flash options, five means of focusing and three light metering systems are a lot of mix and match options. Auto bracketing when not certain of the shot, allowed me to bring home some photos my other camera would have missed.
I brought the 512mb xD-card and can shoot all day, maybe all weekend without concern.

So good I'm buying another as a gift
Pros: My first digital camera, so keep that in mind. Incredible range of settings, but basic features are easy to select. Everything from full auto to full manual. Very fast recovery time between shots -others with more experience than me comment favorably o
Cons: AC power adapter that plugs into camera is an extra cost option. I was disappointed in FujiFilm support - battery charging instructions for batteries in and out of camera were confusing and they did not answer my e-mail inquery. (Still not sure if I can

I recommend if I can get a zoom that works
Pros: I recommend if I can get a zoom that works. It is fast, sharp, light. The camara has great features. I have had a blast with it, until the zoom error appears.
Cons: I got this camara for christmas and am having to return it for the second time. I keep getting a zoom error. The zoom gets stuck and doesn't allow you take any pics. All you can do is return it. It is a camara malfunction. 2 times in a week isn't goo
