The good: The Fujifilm FinePix HS30EXR has a great design and feature set for those who like to do more than leave their camera in auto. It also has several shooting options to improve photo quality for difficult lighting.
The bad: Getting the best results from the HS30EXR can require a lot of effort and even then its photos might not be good enough for some.
The bottom line: Fujifilm's FinePix HS30EXR is a capable megazoom for those who like the controls of an SLR, but not the expense and weight of one.

Exceptional camera! Full feature set. 30X lens is sharp
by nybuen on March 29, 2012
Pros: The long lens (720 equivalent) coupled with the 16 megapixel resolution and the electronic viewfinder and a full feature set make this the equivalent of a dSLR at a fraction the cost. It produced excellent results from wide 24mm thru 126mm settings.
Cons: It is nearly as bulky as a dSLR. It will take some time to master all of the menu options -- such as "best frame capture."
Summary: If you are looking for an advanced camera with a long lens but want to avoid the cost and weight of a dSLR, this is a stand-out option to consider. ...

Replaced good DSLR and lenses for convenience.
by leehemen on August 28, 2012
Pros: Great zoom, total manual or auto adjust, RAW, ease of use, photo quality, HDR, manual focus, Fuji film capable, well constructed, excellent lens, large CMOS, large tilt screen, fantastic video, take photos while shooting video, and stereo recording!
Cons: Not real good in low light, as expected, but better than anticipated.
Summary: Absolutely a great camera. Others of this kind do not shoot RAW or have the CMOS size. Fuji did an excellent job with this adjustable point-and-shoot. It has excellent battery ...
Summary: Absolutely a great camera. Others of this kind do not shoot RAW or have the CMOS size. Fuji did an excellent job with this adjustable point-and-shoot. It has excellent battery life, with over 600 shots and an extra after-market battery is CHEAP. I take thousands of photos each year of all kinds to use for later artistic endeavors and I love my Olympus E-510 with a ton of lenses, but I wanted more convenience. This camera does it all quite well and I can use my 58mm filters! I had owned a smaller Fuji (4 megapixels) years ago and loved its quality. I looked at a similar Cannon and Nikon with high zoom, but the Fuji had more to offer for the same price range. DO NOT expect this camera or others like it to give you the same quality a good DSLR can with great lenses, because they cannot. But for what it does it does it very well and you can get professional quality photos with this camera easily. Pros: best shutter speed and high resolution
Cons: extra battery' cost is too high. One extra battery should be available with less charge included. NO ac adapter and dc coupler
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Fujifilm
- Part number: HS30EXR
- Description: The HS range has become synonymous with versatility and optical quality among those photographers who don't want the lens-changing capability of a DSLR, but still want total control over their images. The FinePix HS30EXR features an improved EXR-CMOS sensor, which gives the user even more versatility, most notably in low light conditions. By redesigning the shape of the photo diodes used in the EXR-CMOS sensor, the images display 30% less digital noise at higher ISO settings, which results in smoother tones and better low light images. The EXR-CMOS sensor offers three different user-selectable options: High Resolution (HR) delivers the best results in bright lighting conditions or when fine detail in an image is of paramount importance. Wide Dynamic Range (DR) Priority is ideal for capturing images in high contrast light situations, when the user wants detail in both shadow and highlight areas, while High Sensitivity and Low Noise (SN) priority is the one to choose in low-light.
