The good: With a nice, fast lens, attractive retro design, and speedy performance, the Fujifilm FinePix X10 hits a lot of important high notes.
The bad: The camera has some image-quality-related weaknesses, not the least of which is that to get the best photos you have to shoot in auto at reduced resolutions.
The bottom line: There's a lot to like about the Fujifilm FinePix X10, but advanced shooters may be frustrated by the trade-offs for the best photos, especially since it's more expensive than its competitors.

Pros: Great HD1080 movies & point & click. Really is a high-end function feature rich. Turn off the LCD, use the break-though eye piece to capture a scene. great 360 degree pic capture & auto stitching with the LCD. Has best macro 1 cm close-up I'v
Cons: Yes it does have a sensitive back dial that is on the small side. Its rotating ring is also sensitive. The center button is also to small. - just use a light touch and it works great. Use a fat finger onto it, it becomes a real big problem.

You can start point & click after a short review of how the X10 works.
I encourage you to sit down and try out the many functions indoors and outdoors. I really came in handy once I was out and about. Expect mistakes. This is a pro camera in noobi hands
Most people will not read the manual - this is a fine instrument. Read how to use it BEFORE you use it out and about for the first time. I spent $3 on Amazon for a lens cap with tether. Also bought a 28mm ring for better protection and hood to provide better control of lighting. Do not by Fuji assessories. Do a little searching on X10 accessories and you can get the same all metal Fuji accessories and batteries all for 100 including charges and 16GB class 10 SD card. Buy Fuji and spend well over 200. Recommend SanDisk SD cards and they must be HDSD class 10 (read the manual) and x10 startup is fast. Many of the advanced features include multiple frames a second - but only if you have a card that is fast.
X10 supports both RAW and JPG. Fuji software is not designed to edit. Use it to convert if you want. I use Gimp on Macintosh. Gimp also runs on Windoze and Linux. It is the free open source equivalent to Adobe Photoshop. I take all my pictures at the highest resolution available. Then edit and reduce the size with little loss in fidelity.
I have taken approx. 225 hi-def photos plus 7 minutes of HD video with audio over 3 hours without a battery check. This was on Christmas. Was still taking pictures on the same battery that came with the X10 after a full day of holiday pictures. Just READ the manual on how to set up the first charge and use. It will save you much time. So far my $20 - 2500ma backup replacement has not been used due running out of juice on my Fuji battery.

-Only enthusiast compact that I know of that can close down to F11
-The best Auto mode on the market
-Decently-sized viewfinder.
-Very nice lens.

Summary: The Fujifilm X10 is an interesting camera. To my eyes at least, there isn't another enthusiast compact that can match its photo quality. The camera feels very solid and well-made and uses some extremely nice glass. I like that you can manually rotate the lens, it's a nice touch.
It also has a very nice LCD on back. And the viewfinder is better than any of the other enthusiast compacts have. Although still subpar to a DSLR.
The menu system could be better, but it didn't find it so confusing or convoluted that it negatively affected my shooting experience.
To put it bluntly though, overall this camera really irritates the hell out of me when using it. The Autofocus does not work properly half the time. To the point where after a few shots, it start crapping out on almost every other shot (flashes red).
The image stabilization can really be flaky on the X10 as well. I am not sure why that is, but I see no excuse for it in a modern camera such as this.
Another thing that is extremely annoying, is that when using an SD card in the camera (I was using a Class 10 SanDisk card) for some reason the camera takes upwards to 8 seconds to "boot up" and be ready to shoot. Most camera take only a fraction of that time to power-up and be ready for use. This extremely annoying, because my instinct is to shut the camera off when not in use to preserve the life of the small battery. But you're pretty much SOL if you see something moving quickly (ie a deer) and want to get a shot of it. You totally miss the shot because the camera is still taking forever to get its act together.
It sounds to me like Fuji needs a comprehensive firmware update to fix these issues. You can get some absolutely stunning photos from the camera considering its sensor size. But if you are the impatient type and won't tolerate all the flaws that this camera has. I would wait to see if a forthcoming firmware update addresses a lot of the issues this camera before plunking down a rather high $600 for it. If your spending that kind of money anyway, I would consider a Micro 4/3rds camera as well.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Carrying the x-10 has been a real plus. The camera works well, focuses fast and I can count on a very good exposure over and over. The EXR sensor is as good as they get, coupled with the sharp and fast lens the camera performs extremely well.
The in camera flash works well and provides good coverage, having some control of the output comes in handy and as a fill it works well in daylight.
The macro setting works with ease, but the super macro is very touchy and needs improvement.
I really like the look and feel of the x-10. It's retro range finder looks and sturdy materials give it a confident feel and the manual power lens zoom works with ease. The x-10 offers enough manual controls to really feel like your in charge of the output and not at the mercy of a point and shoot.
It was in the steep part of the price range for models that do similar things and over all the camera delivers on all sides- except for the dumb way the camera arrives at high ISO settings- that was a let down. Not to mention going to market with the blooming issue not addressed. Is that really a sensor issue? In my experience with the camera, I have to shoot specifically to make that to happen. It very rarely comes up with day-to-day shooting. It's there if go shooting for it. Overall I'd give the camera a 3.75 out of 5.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Lens is tack sharp at f/2.0.
Body is built very well.
Screen is just fine.
View finder is adequate.
Autofocus is trerrific.
Movies are beyond belief-better than my 5D Mark II.
I love it!Cons: Noise above 800 ASA.
Viewfinder could benefit from upgrade.
The manual is horrible, terrible, awful.
You have to work with this camera to get the fun of it.
It takes patience & experience to make it!
The RAW software is only average.

+ Unique and flexible EXR Technology considering if used manually; AUTO EXR Mode is in most cases inadequate; I recommend DR mode @ 1600% DR because of unmatchable tonal range.
+ Exellent Low light ISO performance even at full 12Mega resolution in competition with best Hi-end compacts; Useful up to ISO 800; /surprisingly better than my old FinePix S5Pro DSLR/
+ Option to tuning major *.jpeg opitions like sharpness, tone, contrast, WhiteBallance fine tuning, noise reduction;
+ Best of a class serial shooting & fast shoot to shoot performance!
+ Exellent colors and resolution especially in daylight situations; Deep tonal and dynamic range better than any other compact camera.

CONS:
- Disgustingly blooming effect when pointed at direct light rays caused by luminous objects and light reflections. Hpe soon will be resolved via firmware update...
- Good but not perfect ergonomics. Though better than most Hi-end compacts:
* Lens barrel is near to the center of camera body. It will be much more better if it was placed like that in SONY NEX near left corner of the camera. And the focus mode switch to be moved on left side of the camera just like one found on X100;
* Tottaly awkward rear central control dial, too small and unuseful for manual focusing! just like one in Canon PowerShot G series;
* Lens cap is not bounded - serious misunderstanding!
- Meager poor battery , short battery life, especially if shoot in *.RAF /enough for about 120-150shots, depending on flash usement/; Should have bigger NP-95 @1900MaH
- Mediocre TFT display not bad at brightlight but average resolution nonflexible and not even tilt screen!
- Mediocre Movie performance with incorrect seeking AF especially when face detection is turned on. No any control over aperture, ISO or shutter speed unlike SONY NEX 5N;
Conclusion: Despite my criticism this is a precious piece of art very useful in most common situations. Great images even in *.jpeg with nice fuji colors & superior dinamic range.
The price is JUST FINE !
Here in Bulgaria, Eastern EU it cost exactly 900BGN approx $600
For example Canon's products politics SUCKS -> Canon Powershot G12 cost 1150BGN approx $750-760; Canon S100 999BGN ~ $660;
Panasonic LX5 cost $660; OLYMPUS XZ1 899BGN ($600)
So My opinion is that X10 is a class by his own but in size is in par with best Hi-end compacts and some of the Intercangeble cameras. Highly rcomend it to these users who knows how to shoot in RAW and in Manual modes !!!0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
