The good: The GE Power Pro X500
offers a lot for its low price including a 15x wide-angle zoom lens and semimanual and manual controls.
The bad: The X500's shooting performance is really slow and it's not good indoors without a flash and in low-light conditions.
The bottom line: The GE X500 megazoom is a very good value as long as you understand its photo and performance limitations.

Great Camera for cheaper price!
by ralphc23 on January 4, 2012
Pros: - very good camera for its price
- good image quality even in maximum optical zoom
- good in macro shots
- video quality is good although it's not HD
- small and light weight
- excellent for beginners!Cons: - sometimes it's hard to focus even in well-lit areas
- aperture must be adjusted to 8 and up.
- sometimes, the image on the LCD looks good but if you view it on a computer, you will see the noise and the low image quality.Summary: Best camera on its price range. If you're a beginner and looking for a non-DSLR camera, GE x5/x500 will be great for you. I must admit, image quality ...
Summary: Best camera on its price range. If you're a beginner and looking for a non-DSLR camera, GE x5/x500 will be great for you. I must admit, image quality is not that good especially in low-light areas but using some software, you can enhance the color of the image. Good luck to those who want to buy this one! :)

Pros: Excellent versatility (various modes (aperture, shutter, programmable, etc.)
High quality pictures (16MP)
Economical price for outstanding value
Feels comfortableCons: Batteries don't last as long as I thought.

- Feels soliCons: - Somewhat slow, but certainly tolerable

- No HD video and only mono microphone
- Low-light pictures aren't great

Summary: I was ready to upgrade from my point-and-shoot, and wanted a longer lens, but wasn't ready to jump to dSLR level, I'm just an amateur. This led me to megazooms, and in looking I found this camera. I was very skeptical of a GE camera, this is not something that they are known for. However, I know they make quality products that I own and rely on daily. I did my research heavily and weighed the pros and cons in the reviews that I read from all over the web and took the leap. Let me say, I am glad I did! For the cost, this is a very nice camera, it is almost surprising how nice it is for the cost! It has auto, semi, and full manual shooting modes and a plethora of other application specific shooting modes. I haven't been able to test all of them yet, but the ones I have gone through work very well, and take very nice, clear pictures with rich colors that are, of course adequately lit. The lower lighting photos are not as nice, but they are still certainly acceptable. I use the camera for rail photography and it does very well for that application, many of my shots come out very well, I have some that are a little blurry, but again, I am an amateur who is still learning and practice on timing is critical, especially with any camera that is not a dSLR. I think for someone who is looking to become more serious in the photo hobby, primarily outdoor, and do not want to drop $300 - $500 for a comparable megazoom, this is a great choice for you. Do not expect dSLR performance, simply because it isn't, but you do get a camera that is better than a point-and-shoot and for a heck of a price!
