Summary: The HP PhotoSmart M407 is an ok camera, but this camera is not recommended for anyone who's looking for good image quality. Flash pictures sometimes comeout too exposed, but while using no flash they come out way too blurry. I believe this is a failure for HP.

...well I used it for 3 months and then it died
by bigjim1165 on March 21, 2005
Pros: good price, good quality snapshots,
Cons: not enough protection for the 1.8in LCD : it busted barely 90 days in.

Summary: I would not buy another camera from HP. To me I does not have enough protection for the LCD: one bump in my pocket and it was gone. This is NOT A POCKET CAMERA!
Replacement calls for another $100.00 from HP. If an extended warantee is buought it usually means the LCD is NOT covered. My FujiFilm S5100 offers a little better protection as does my older FujiFilm 2.1 megapixel (which takes comparable pictures to the HP M407)!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Everythings Great Except Picture Quality!
Pros: Good camera, low price
Cons: extremely poor picture light quality. Every picture no matter the flash, white balance, etc. setting comes out dull and dark.

Pros: great camera. excellent daytime pictures. easy to use. somewhat compact with a bigger LCD than most cameras of its size. captures video with audio. good battery life, economical.
Cons: slow picture loading times. terrible, night, no flash pictures. runs on AAs instead of a built in battery system.

Summary: This camera is excellent for hobbysts. if you want to take pictures at your child's party or at a vacation, this is a very good camera. Good price and high resolution make me say that this camera is probably one of the better ones that I have worked with. It does however need some improvements. Bottom line: great camera with great features delivering outstanding photos (most of the time) at a reasonable price!

Summary: I purchased this camera and believe it is an average low cost camera and it it easy to use. Any battery brand and type does not seem to last but for a very short time though. But I wanted to share as someone who has used it for a while, I had to exchange my first one because the battery door would not stay shut. In less that 6 months the replacement camera they gave me has a messed up screen that you can not see anything on it at all (so no use of the viewer or any options now) And HP customer service is no help at all. Because the purchase date of the "first" camera is now just over a year, they will only give me another refurbished camera.....oh yeah and they want me to pay them around $100. Think I will be buying a different brand for sure this time.
