This is my third digital camera. I bought it to replace a Fuji A330. I love the feel of this camera. It is easy to use and I like the fact that you can even find batteries in “One Horse Towns”. I bought mine two weeks ago and had it shipped to my front door for $309.00. That’s the camera, shipping and everything. You will need a memory card, I bought the 512 MB Ultra II. I also like the fact that I could use my old memory card and rechargeable batteries from my Fuji.
This camera is perfect for me. I teach at a mid sized University and am the webmaster for two organizations. I am also the unofficial photographer for three organizations because I always have a camera on hand and take a lot of pictures. Members of the various organizations are always emailing me for a CD of pictures from various events on campus and conferences. I am overweight and have knee problems so I walk with a cane. It was difficult for me to get good shots of speakers at evants because I like to sit in the back and to the side so I can check out other meetings. The 10X Zoom lets me get up close without limping up in front of everyone. My knees want to thank Kodak for such a great, inexpensive and easy to use camera.
So far I have purchased a larger camera bag, four more rechargeable batteries, and a 512 MB memory card. I have Quicktime on my laptop but a lot of my fiends and coworkers like mpeg, wmv and avi movie files so I downloaded a trial version of Alive Video Converter and later on bought and registered it the same day. Besides converting the files from Quicktime to another format you can also change the size of the file for easier storing and emailing. I am now bidding on eBay for a monopod and a wide angle lense.
Wow!!
I love my Z740!!25 out of 25 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: The camera feels very comfortabe, it's controls are all in exactly the right positions and it takes credible pictures. It is also small enough to put in a large pocket or purse. The zoom works well and is very quiet. A diopter on the viewfinder would have been nice and retaining the battery pack and door design from previous DX cameras would have been a better choice. I would also prefer a wrist strap; a personal choice.

Best camera for its price!

Summary: About two months ago i started looking for a camera, i had an old outdated 10 dollar camera before and wanted something really nice that will last a while but not yet too expensive. I started looking on the internet and compared ALOT of different cameras.
As soon as i came across this camera it was right on the list of my favorites. Until i found it i was quite satisfied with only having 3-4 optical zoom but this one had 10x for about the same price!!! I tried to find some other camera that could match this but none of the others were even close. And with this one being a Kodak, a famous brand specialized in film and cameras i was sold.
Of course i read all the cons about it. Ppl saying the lit to the battery come off easy. I havent had that problem at all and i dunno what they must of done to the camera for that to happen either?
As for the size.. i had only looked at the cameras on the internet so it was hard to grip what size it really was just from numbers. So i went to the store and checked it out. Its perfect. I can drag it with me wherever i want without it being some big burden. Im a small girl and the grip feels so nice compared to the other cameras in the store. And my husband whos hands are alot bigger than mine felt the same thing.
When we baught the camera we also got a case for it and two rechargeable batteries + 500+ memory.
The different pictureoptions are easy to find and there's one for every type of event and i can quick switch to the perfect one, or if we're talking about half a second, i put it on auto and the picture will automatically be perfect. Ive taken picture perfect pictures on signs and houses from the inside of cars while passing on the highway that look like ive spent 20 minutes setting everything up perfect. And when we went on a family camping about a month ago i took alot of pictures just like everyone else. But its my pictures everyone want copies of!
If you're an active person in the 20-30's like me its perfect too. Ive taken the camera with me on bumpy boatrides taking fast zoomed in perfectly clear images of the person on the waterskies and whatever not while holding on to the boat for my life.
I am so glad that i baught this camera and i can recommend it to anyone who's in doubt. Once you have that 10x zoom you will never go back, the 3-4x just wont cut it unless you're at indoor birthday parties.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have had several digital cameras and this is really the best so far. The pictures are so 3D like it's to good! It almost shows things better than they really are. I bought a gig to go with it and a rechargeable battery too. My total investment has been over 560.00. I think for the money and all it's well worth it. I took a chance on Kodak and theycame through. Although the bastard still owe me for the kodak camera polaroid which they got sued on and weasled out of paying everyone on the class action. Still owe me $100.000 plus interest since 1979!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This Z740 is good thu! Buy it and love it!

Controls are easy to use, well placed, and unlike most of the kodaks, it has a separate on/off switch.
Image quality is excellent with good color rendering. The evf/lcd are very easy to see and the assist in low light is great.
Long lens shots work best with manual focus assist and it is possible to get a 10x shot hand-held, though a steady surface or tripod is obviously a good thing.
This camera is a great value at the less than $330 street price for a megazoom with good auto modes and full manual capability.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Ok, if you get this camera...UPDATE THE FIRMWARE to help with some of the blurrieness issues...but be warned, it will not make it perfect. The camera is great...but still needs issues resolved from Kodak with the auto focus...maybe even a manual focus option designed in future firmware updates if possible...PLEASE KODAK...PLEASE! All in all...i would recommend another model persoanlly.

Summary: I just bought this camera 2 weeks ago and I still can't believe how great it is! I took it to a concert where cameras were allowed and the pictures and video I took were just amazing. People thought I sat close to the stage but acutally I was 16 rows back. It took great close up pictures and great video. It was hard to stable the camera during the video shots though, but it picked up the volume just fine. If I had a tripod it would have come out better. But it was just great to even have these memories on my memory card. I'm still on the first set of batteries that came with the camera after 100 pictures and seven 1.5 minute videos.
I'm so impressed with how easy this camera is to use. The scene settings work wonders as well. I can't wait to go to the beach and see how they compare to my mom's Sony digital camera. Her pictures always come out virtually white.
If you have $300 to spend, this is the camera to get!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Kodak EasyShare Z740 Digital Camera
by www.buy-n-shoot.com on November 15, 2005
Pros: 5MP, 10x Optical Zoom, Idiot Proof Settings, 14 Scene Options and 'Share'
Cons: Little slow focussing in dark , 38mm lens could have been wider

This ...Summary: First up, you gotta love a camera that will never make you look silly in front of a group of people for forgetting to take the lens cap off!
This new model EasyShare digital camera and printer dock from Kodak combines a 5 megapixel capture a 10x optical zoom Retinar aspheric lens, printing on demand and many clever idiot proof settings.
The size of this camera for a mini type dslr is very compact. The Z740 is also a light weight at just 286g without the batteries, although is still quite a sturdy camera.
Kodak have really applied the 'easy' part of EashyShare with the menu navigation one of the simplest on the market for its range, and one of the simplest I've reviewed. A dial on the back and a handful of buttons around the 1.8 inch LCD is all any happy snapper requires. The dial offers 7 options, although the most useful by far would be the 'Scene' option with no fewer than 14 modes covering every scenario you'll ever need. To give you an idea, the options are as follows: night portrait, close up, backlight, snow, fireworks, flower, beach, party, children, self portrait, text, manner/museum, night landscape and landscape. Plus there are a further 6 dial options including sport, portrait, night, manual, video and of course auto.
Its worth noting that for those who like to take self portraits or close up headshots with friends that the 'scene' option of 'self portrait' drops the power down on the flash so you'll have perfectly exposed images every time - with no ghost white faces!
The lens offers plenty of flexibility with a 38mm to 380mm range, F2.8 wide to F3.7 telephoto and continuous auto-focus.
When the camera is placed on top of the docking station it both charges and is ready for on the spot printing without a computer. Printing images is very easy, with one button to begin printing and another to scroll through the images via the LCD on the camera...

Summary: This is our first digital camera. We have had it for a couple of months and are very happy with it. The 10x zoom is smooth and lets you frame almost any subject the way you want. The auto exposure gives optimum pictures almost every time; the manual settings are fairly easy to access when needed. To my eye the picture quality is excellent. Prints purchased through the Kodak gallery are indistinguishable from film prints.
I did not have serious problems with the EasyShare software as some have reported, but I do not use it because it is too slow and limited in features when handling a large number of pictures. I bought a 1GB card and transfer pictures using a simple USB card reader. With this arrangement, the camera dock is unnecessary; since it comes with rechargeable batteries, purchasing it was not a complete waste. Still, two 512GB cards would be better so I could have one in the camera while copying from the other.
Overall, an excellent buy.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
