Poor durability

Pros: The zoom on the Z915 is great, and has a crisp clearness.
Cons: It has very poor durability. Breaks way to easily. It is hard to work with Kodak!!!!

Summary: We had this camera for 7 days, and the lens stopped going in and out within 3 days. Returned it to the store and received a new camera, and that camera broke in 24 hours, and they say that there was damage done to the inside of the camera so the store wouldn't replace it this time. My wife had it in a camera case in her purse, so if it took any hits within 24 hours it must not have taken much to damage it. The durability of this camera is absolutely horrible! We've had a Canon camera for 3 yrs with no problem! We went with the Kodak because of the 10x Zoom and great price they were offering. Now we know why they were offering it for $70 off, because they're a piece of trash. I was a little nervous about getting a Kodak camera because I hadn't heard a LOT of good things of either good or bad things about them. We did a lot of checking on line to get input on it's quality. Most of the ratings were good, so we went ahead with it. Now neither the store nor Kodak will replace the camera or refund the money. Now we're out a bunch of money and will definitely NOT purchase a Kodak camera again!!!The

Pros: If in a hurry Smart capture takes good "general" pictures!
For the more experienced photographers the P, A, S and Manual controls give you good creative possibilities!
Video is OK even under nightly conditions.

I use it under all conditions, I don't think it's waterproof but in little rain I had no problems. with only 2 rechargeable batteries I take several hundreds of pictures (I don't use the Flash very often) and I have a set of 2 in reserve.

Pros: This is a great camera that bridges the gap between my cellphone or point and shoot and my DSLR. A great 10X zoom captures just about everything - and the price makes me take it places that I couldn't (or wouldn't) take my DSLR.
Cons: The AF takes a bit of time in lowlight conditions - but its not a deal breaker. The design is not as sleek as some others in its class.

In fact, at the new lower prices, I've bought one for my college age son and nephews. For them, this is perfect to capture everything their cell phone can't - including decent video. And at the price, it won't be devastating if it gets lost or damaged in their travels.

Pros: The fast first picture is incredible. From power-on to a photo in no time. Also many of the photos are outstanding and crisp high resolution. Very very low price, on clearance at Target.
Cons: Many photos, more than half, are blurry from motion or focus or lack of flash and are unuseable.

Summary: I took pictures in auto mode the same way as I used my past two Minolta digital cameras, and they never had this many scrapped photos. There is no way to force flash to be "on" for every shot in the auto mode. So I tried switching to the "backlit scene" mode which forces a flash, however found that it also overexposes slightly. Also for just snapping pictures of the kids at a petting zoo, the great majority of pictures are out of focus or have blurred motion. Come on. Does the petting zoo require "sport" mode? The portrait pictures are much nicer and the quality I hoped for all the shots. I have been using this camera for two weeks and have taken about 300 pictures. I believe that this camera has potential but requires the user to learn its quirks. I will keep exploring the 12 or so other custom modes. Also maybe I can find a way to force the flash on. I find it hard to believe that a camera with so many manual options doesn't have that. I am disappointed that, after reading so many reviews, nobody mentioned these things. All reviewers seemed to be impressed by the quantity of custom modes, but apparently did not explore them in real use.

Summary: So many reviewers bad-mouthed this camera that I am forced to upload my positive review. At its price-point the Z915 is a fabulous camera. I got mine on August 9, 2010 and have taken 640 photos to date. I've tried every setting and have NEVER taken a "bad" photo. I use this camera as a back-up for my Pentax KX DSLR when I go on photo shoots. Here's my advice, MEMORIZE the user's manual and try every combination of features before you shoot off your mouth about how bad a camera this is! It will take you quite a while to completely conquer any camera that has manual settings. This camera is about the best buy for your dollar that you can get.

I read the complaints about the Easy Share software and have to say the truth, All camera software does not work with all computers so I rarely use them.
I just take out the SD card and copy my pictures.
IF you are like me and need to take point and shoot or at times program your camera for the shot then this is a great camera.
10X optical zoom is sharp too. -

Summary: This is a hard camera to beat if you can get it for less than $150. It has full manual controls so you can set the shutter speed and opening manually, or set one and let it adjust the other, or you can use one of the many preset modes--everything from portraits, night portraits, fireworks, sunset, back lighting, landscapes, sports, and even a kids setting for faster snaps of active kids. It's great as a point-and-shoot, or to learn all the options. The 10x zoom works great.
It does a good job, but not a perfect job. The flash on the auto setting is so bright it overexposes pictures when you are close to the subject, and just turning the flash off creates blurry photos. I have a very good camera phone (Nokia N95) that takes beautiful, color-correct pictures in auto mode, but at times it takes so long from shutter click to actual photo that I miss a lot of shots. I think this camera goes for fast picture over perfect color and exposure, because the photos are fast but a little too bright. You can fix some of these with photo editing, of course.
The auto mode is good for pictures at Disney World, maybe, but if you want close-ups of the family cat you may need to play with the preset modes to get a perfect picture. Still, the preset modes are very good, and the manual settings make you want to pull out an Ansel Adams folio and start experimenting. It gives you a lot of options for the price, and a lot of zoom for the price, so it's well worth the price, especially if you can get it on sale. -
Auto mode pictures often unusable

Cons: Automatic mode is awful. Many pictures overexposed, many just completely black, majority unusable - this seems to be getting worse over time. No option to force flash in Auto mode (only Off, Auto or Red-Eye Reduction).

Summary: I bought this for the 10x zoom at a great price. I wanted video capability and a decent Auto mode. Since my kids are always on the go, I don't generally have time to adjust settings manually. All the 'professional' reviews I found said this had a good Auto mode, so I went for it. They were so wrong and I am SO sorry! By the time we got back from a trip to visit family, it was too late to return this to Office Depot (way sorry I bought it there - BIG MISTAKE as they have a strict 14-day return/exchange policy). The Auto mode is heinous. I've tried pretty much all the other modes (there are a lot), without much luck. I've never had a camera where so _many_ pictures are just blackness, or almost purely white, or faded/fuzzy-looking. The camera is pretty much useless to me, as the majority of the photos are unusable and you don't get a lot of chances to get a good shot with two busy kids. I'm out the $$, but will have to buy another camera. Maybe back to Olympus - I have a 7-yr-old one that my 5 year old daughter now uses as a toy, and it still works great (no video and like 2x zoom, or I'd take it back from her!) - even with the beating she and her friends give it.

Summary: did i mention the sensor is just absolutely horrendous? after investing quite some time with this camera ive come to the following conclusions. you must always shoot at ISO 100, in any lighting,at any time of day, any subject at any distance. ISO 100 is the only way to capture the maximum amount of detail. ive also started shooting with the smallest aperture available almost all the time. if i need a fast shot than i'll sooner open up the aperture before cranking the volume on ISO. as far as shutter speed goes, this is the setting i change most often when going through the trial and error process in hopes of finding a sweet spot. but eventually it became clear that im never gonna have detail in both the shadows and highlights. so i get it as close as possible by experimenting with shutter speeds, than i turn on exposure bracketing so i have 3 versions of the picture, each one maximizing detail in one third of the histogram .this technique is called HDR (high dynamic range) and it takes quite a bit of time and photoshop skill to complete just one single image. thats the only way i can manage to get the quality i desire from this camera. if anyone is interested in seeing some of my work, just let me know.
i can go on for days about how much this camera pisses me off, but if i do that i'll never finish writing this review... but...last complaint goes to the exposure metering settings ( inconsistent. like a box of chocolates, you never really know what your gonna get.) bottom line: this camera, even when you tell it exactly what you want it to do, it will still have largely inconsistent, unpredictable, interpretations of the images you expect to capture.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
