Fantastic quality for the money.

Pros: The color is extremely vivid, sharpness is fantastic, extremely easy to use, great for outdoor shots.
Cons: quality problems occur from time to time with the indoor shots, slow shooting speed.

GREAT Camera
by imedgeman on May 11, 2010
Pros: The zoom on this camera is fantastic for the size of the body, it still fits in your pocket but expands out for a full 10x optical zoom. Also the optical image stabilization is far than the cheap digital version found on many similar-priced cameras.
Cons: There is no optical viewfinder - but the LCD is 3" and more than adequate. Also, the batttery is proprietary if this matters to you - but a generic backup can be found on Amazon for $6.

Summary: The HD video is fantastic, and as is the story with all Kodaks the picture quality is incredible, the colors are true to life and never subdued. The camera has quite a few manual adjustments if you want complete control over the photos, but also works great in auto modes as well. Bottom line I would highly recommend this camera to anyone wanting to step up a notch from the old point and shoot but who doesn't want to spend a TON of money.

Excellent picture quality with mediocre video quality.
by joeyyowee on March 16, 2011
Pros: Great picture quality in auto mode, easy to use, great user interface
Cons: Mediocre video quality, Video goes out of focus unless you use single autofocus, pictures take a few seconds to process before you could review them

Summary: The CNET editor was right. If you're a patient photo-shooter that's looking for great quality images for a cheap price this is the camera for you. The video quality is mediocre, but it's good for people who are looking to do basic things like post vlogs on youtube and what not. The battery life is decent and I have no idea what some other reviewers were talking about. I looked at other cameras for the same price as this one and I couldn't find anything that was close to being as good as this as far as picture quality is concerned. I compared this to my dad's high end Panasonic and the quality on this was better. I'm disappointed that they discontinued this model and they aren't going to make a Kodak like this in the future, but I'm hoping that the new M583 is going to be as good as this with improved video quality. I'm definitely getting another Kodak in the future.

Blurred Photos
by dmaccat on December 12, 2010
Pros: Bought it in part for its zoom capabilities, which is great.
Cons: 75% of the time, the pictures are blurred

Summary: Pictures taken are moments in time that you cannot capture again. I have had to delete so many of those moments with this camera. Most pictures are blurred and doesn't have the clarity I had with my previous Kodak camera. I don't like the feature of having to hold for the camera to focus before taking the shot. Wish I had never bought this camera!

Well-balanced, Easy to Use, Very Good Images
by Masino on July 26, 2010
Pros: Natural color, great output, flexible, very portable, nice zoom range, very good battery life. It grows on you.
Cons: Somewhat soft images at default setting--Sharpness needs to be raised to High. Auto mode tends to smooth out the image too much--O.K. for wide shots but not for close-ups.
Summary: At first I was lukewarm about the camera but after I learned to use P mode and set Sharpness to High and avoid Auto mode except for more distant shots ...
Summary: At first I was lukewarm about the camera but after I learned to use P mode and set Sharpness to High and avoid Auto mode except for more distant shots I really came to appreciate the great combination of well-balanced features the camera has. It can do excellent macros; the zoom has a nice reach; it has a natural color balance; it is easy to customize quickly. Fits nicely into my pocket. I get 200-250 shots off one battery charge.
I posted a varied batch of photos at http://www.pbase.com/tgaf/kodak_z950--wide angle, macros, plants, animals, people, scenery. Feel free to check them out to see what the camera is capable of.
It does many things well and nothing poorly. One of my favorite cameras. Highly recommended.

12 MP and HD video at low price.
by Nestor_GM on June 13, 2010
Pros: $157 at costco, i were looking for some cheap nice option and the Z950 is that one. 12 MP gave very nice pictures. Video has three different options including HD.
Cons: none at all
Summary: 12 MP pictures make it esy to edit pictures as well as high quality photo. 720p for video is great.

Not worth the discounted low price
by jfarbstein on December 27, 2010
Pros: -You get more megapixels than comparable cameras.
-The zoom length is excellent.
-Good price.Cons: -The video zoom, which was a major reason I bought it, doesn't focus smoothly throughout shooting.
-Takes too long to start up.
-Not stellar performance in low light.Summary: -You can't zoom in small steps. The lever doesn't allow you to zoom in just a little at a time.

Though the Kodak Z950 can zoom while doing video recording, the zoom itself didn't focus consistently on the subject. Other comparable Panasonic Lumix camera can't zoom (unless you spend more), but I expected a lot more from this Kodak camera and am really disappointed in my purchase. I'd definitely spend more money to get a better model.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Only 23 photos on a battery charge? REALLY???
by standrumz2010 on December 19, 2010
Pros: From what little I could tell, the manual controls seemed adequate. However, I wasn't able to get the camera to retain a charge long enough to really test it out.
Cons: Unusable. Only 20-23 shots before the display blanches to white, dies and leaves the lens in the open position without warning. In order to reset the camera it must recharge fully, then the battery must be removed and reinserted to "reboot" the unit.
Summary: Sadly disappointed in this experience. This was a wee morning Black Friday purchase, and I'm wondering if they were using the event to purge some lemons from the inventory. ...
Summary: Sadly disappointed in this experience. This was a wee morning Black Friday purchase, and I'm wondering if they were using the event to purge some lemons from the inventory. I am taking it back to Office Max in a few minutes to try to get an even-up exchange. I really, really want this camera to work because the manual features appear to be a good fit for what I want to do. However, if the next unit does the same thing, forget it, I'm going with another brand, or putting the money towards an iPhone upgrade (the iPhone 4 has a great camera built in). Also, the other reviewers weren't kidding, the cycle time is sloooooowwww.

the helplight is always on
by delastro on July 1, 2010
Pros: the camera has a good handling but a terrible system. Using the camera you must think in special programs.
Cons: Only in the museum mode the helplight is off. In every other mode the help light is always on. That means if you want to shot in P mode without help light this is impossible. Second, You must load in the camera. Third there is no optical viewfinder.
Summary: I wanted to have a kodak camera, my first was the V570. Until today I hope this camera will be renewed with a big chip. Until this will happen I ...
Summary: I wanted to have a kodak camera, my first was the V570. Until today I hope this camera will be renewed with a big chip. Until this will happen I wanted to use the Z950, but I think this camera would be better if the helplight could be on and off and the batteries coulde be loades in another way.
