Great camera once you learn how to use it.
Pros: Clear, vibrant, lively pics outdoors. Lots of features that you choose what you need/want. It took a little time but this camera rocks. At first, I couldn't stand this thing as it took lousy indoor pics. The auto mode preprogrammed modes are not that
Cons: Indoor pics in auto mode are near worthless. Play w/ the shutter speed and iso to get good results. AF in low light isn't very good but it's like that w/ most dc's. Usually it's a contrast issue. Although low light af isn't that great, it's not as bad

No regrets...
Pros: The camera has lots of modes although i don't use half of them. There are way more than you will ever use...some are rather ridiculous...(a mode for museum photography?!?!) I really really like the fact that this camera is capable to recording time laps
Cons: I have a few complaints about the camera, but to me they are not very important, but i suppose for other it may be a concern. I really don't like the output to TV. I don't know if i am missing something, but the pictures are always darker...much darke

Summary: Overall I think this is a fantastic camera. I paid 199.95 after rebates, so this is alot of camera for the price. I was able to use it right out of the box without going to the manual. Very intuitive. The only negative I've found is the small viewer,Other wise I would have rated it a 10.

Good Prosumer camera with great features
by jonaszajac on March 29, 2005
Pros: dial to rotate menus and A/S
Cons: odd picture quality choices, need to familiarize yourself with it to get best functionality. Also, the proprietary RAW file format update is not to easy to work with.
Summary: Good camera with a lot of great features for a great price (if you get the 200 rebate)!
Awesome dial that lets you quickly rotate thru a variety of functions ...Summary: Good camera with a lot of great features for a great price (if you get the 200 rebate)!
Awesome dial that lets you quickly rotate thru a variety of functions makes it quick and more like a SLR. Of course it is not an SLR and has they typical lag when you press the trigger, but you can always get around it by pressing down the trigger half-way.
I love the dial, it is such a great addition
The cd that came with my camera has been a headache, as i think it is corrupted, but that is not important to me.
Awesome manual, but plan on spending some time getting used to the camera and its wealth of features.
Could have made the quality/size options easier to understand.
Wish the that you could use features through eye piece.
swiveling screen is totally sweet, as you can use it from any angle. very useful when doing a timed shot and camera is on rock or down low on tripod. Also good protection. Just a wee small for my liking.
Overall, this camera rocks. There are so many buttons that allow you to shortcut the menu and add much more quick functionality, which is important to me.
Definitely a good purchase for a prosumer, not a point and shoot, but with the rebate, it is as cheap.
Pluses totally outweigh the minuses, if you want a prosumer camera without the SLR price.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Flash too bright
by asianhoney on March 20, 2005
Pros: great super macro mode, widest shutter speed range 8s-1/4000s, very fast at taking repetitive shots, great manual focus!
Cons: viewfinder cracked unexpectedly after 1 month, limited playback functions, flash too bright, not enough zoom, small LCD

Summary: overall, i love my camera. PROS: it takes great closeup shots.. as close as a few mm away from the lens. it takes great shots with manual focus, and wide shutter speed ranges allow greater flexibility with your shots. 3clicks per second for repetitive shots.. extremely fast. has 2 customizable user settings for P, M, or S mode. CONS: when flash is used, results of near objects appear too bright.. which blanks out details in the subject. 4x optical zoom is not enough.. the maximum zoom-in is the same as with the naked eye. LCD too small for viewing clarity of photos.. annoying to keep zooming in and out. no photo rotate in playback mode.. which is quite annoying too. other than that, great camera. love the manual functions!
Updated
yes, that's right. 1/8000s, which i just saw in the manual.. only during Ultra HS mode: 30shots per second1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Awesome camera-- A best buy!
Pros: We've been looking at digital cameras in the $3-350 range when we found this at Costco for $299. Before we started a family I was very much a camera enthusiast, but my wife is a point and shoot person. Both of us are able to take great pictures. I'm glad
Cons: If you are oging to use this camera very much, you definitely will want a larger memory card and another battery, but it's still a heckuva deal.

AF is joke!
Pros: wide-zoom from 28mm (35)
Cons: I bought 5400 recently, was very excited (because of $200 rebate, great value, I thought), opened the box, charged the battery, tried taking picture in my living room with plenty of light. When I tried to capture my cat, the AF warning light keeps flashin

Good Camera but lack of real shutter sound
Pros: Good picture once you learn how to use it.
Cons: Slow writing to CF card. Fast fill-up of buffer in 5M Pixel fine mode. Unlike Canon this model do not have 3M or 4M Pixel mode only 2M Pixel or below. No shutter sound loudness adjustmen like Canon or Sony. No mechancial shutter sound selection Like Canon

If you want to take great pics this is the camera for you.
Pros: I read so many reviews and when you get right down to it we all just want great pictures. This camera takes great pics. When printing out pics on the glossy paper and HP2210 printer the pics look as good as 35mm. In fact I have taken better pics with t
Cons: Price was high when we bought it but they are right in line with other 5.1's know.
