The $129.95 Nikon Coolpix L20 is a budget-friendly compact camera with a 10-megapixel resolution, 3.6x zoom lens, and 3-inch LCD. It's a very basic point-and-shoot, but it does have a few extras--such as that large LCD--to make it worth considering.
The L20 is small at 3.8 inches wide by 2.4 inches high by 1.2 inches deep, but it has the added convenience of AA batteries as its power source. It's fairly lightweight, too, at 4.8 ounces without batteries and SD/SDHC memory card. You'll only get about 240 shots from two alkaline AA batteries, but going with a pair of lithium batteries will get you approximately 630 shots. NiMH rechargeables are also an option.
Shooting options include Nikon's Easy Auto mode with Scene Auto Selector (it'll automatically changes up to six scene modes to match the scene you're shooting), 16 user-selectable Scene modes, face detection of up to 12 faces, and Smile Mode and Blink Warning (the camera detects up to three smiles and automatically fires the shutter while warning you if one or more subjects has blinked). There is a Movie mode as well that records at VGA-quality at 30 frames per second.
There is no optical image stabilization--nor would I expect there to be at this price point--but Nikon does give you its Motion Detection option, which detects camera shake or subject movement and makes adjustments to reduce image blur.
We have not reviewed the L20, but have tested a model with similar features from Nikon, the Coolpix S220. Also, if you're interested in exploring options from other manufacturers in this price range, check out our roundup of 10-megapixel cameras with 3x zooms.

Excellent quality photographs from a point and shot
by nikon_n70 on March 14, 2010
Pros: Excellent quality photos.
Nice zoom length.
Sound with movies.
Uses 2-AA batteries and doesn't require special, rechargeable batteriesCons: No viewfinder.
Minimal manual adjustments.Summary: Since this camera isn't even a low-end DSLR, it would be unfair to compare it that way. For a point and shoot in the under $100 price range it ...
Summary: Since this camera isn't even a low-end DSLR, it would be unfair to compare it that way. For a point and shoot in the under $100 price range it is a high quality camera as all Nikon cameras are. I would like to have the ability to make manual adjustments to the various settings (ISO, shutter speed, etc) but these are features usually reserved for a more expensive model so don't expect too much. Rather, enjoy this pocket sized dynamo. You will get excellent pictures right out of the box but learn the menus and your results will improve immensely. I would recommend this camera based on the low price and number of features.but if you are looking for something more than point and shoot, you need to look further. Hard to beat in all areas.

These reviewers need to learn how operate this camera.
by spike197929 on January 17, 2010
Pros: Everything price got it for 79 dollars free shipping from Amazon. It uses double A battery but also has two more options for the more expensive rechargeable ones. Once I run the pics through Iphoto on my macbook pro they look really nice.
Cons: Nothing. Best point and shoot camera for under a 100 dollars out there.
If you want good pics learn how to use the settings right.Summary: If you are not going to spend the time how to use this camera properly and blame the blurry pics on the camera thats not fair. To get good pics ...

Photos clear then blurry, too bright then too dark
by nevershoutnevergirl on November 11, 2010
Pros: On the odd occasion it takes some nice photos. Easy to navigate. Pretty nice look of the camera. Okay shutter lag most of the time, then others it takes a minute or two.
Cons: Terrible photo quality most of the time
Limited features
Flash is okay if you put it on auto...
Weird zoom, it doesn't have a mode dial (also bad thing trait) which positions the zoom on the frontSummary: People, just spend the extra 100-200 dollars and get a nice camera. Even $80 is not a good price for this.

Overall a good camera.
by coolbuddy0163 on September 4, 2010
Pros: It is a point-and-shoot camera and is priced reasonably. It is one of the cheapest cameras from the popular brabds that one can buy.
Cons: It has advanced features which are a bit difficult to manage.

Good pics, easy use, some trouble making it cooperate.
by Davidnaz1 on April 16, 2010
Pros: Good picture quality. Excellent Features. Low price, high value. Sturdy, uses AA batteries, nice 3 inch screen.
Cons: Sometimes I want it to do something, but I can't get it to. I am still learning the ins and outs of it, so I'm sure its just because I'm not familiar with the product. On a lesser note, some of the buttons must be pressed down well or they wont work.
Summary: I am exceedingly satisfied with the product. If you buy one, make sure you know how to operate a camera (only basic knowledge is needed, but even still, some small ...

Summary: It was challenging getting a clear picture with this camera. Some pictues came out yellow as if the camera were in sepia mode and it was not. Lost shots due to the above problem. I paid $80 dollars for this camera which was cheap. I got lured in by the name and amount of megapixles. I returned it. I am sure there are better options than this.

Summary: I love this camera!!! I bought this off of Amazon.com on December 28th, and it arrived on December 30th. I was so excited to see what it would be like, and it is a great camera.I bought it for $79.99, and that is a GREAT value for a 10 megapixel NIKON! The LCD is large, and the colors are vibrant. I would recommend this to a friend any day.

low price simple to use respectable pictures
by bwc56 on January 4, 2010
Pros: I like that it uses AAs. One less charger when traveling. Fits in my pocket. relatively inexpensive.
Cons: Slow. I wonder when the shutter is going to grab rhe photo sometimes. I am often late for the picture I wanted. This isn't for youth sports.
Summary: This camera is secondary to my SLR system. If you are looking for your one and only. I reccomend spending more if you can. Of course each year cameras get ...

Summary: I don't know if something is wrong with the camera or what. I always hold the button down 1/2 way before taking the picture. Sometimes the pics come out sharp as can be and other times, they're blurry. I'm very disappointed because some very important pictures came out blurry. :-(((((
