Summary: I purchased this camera a week ago and took it on a cruise the following day. Originally, I had planned to purchase the S550, but after holding this camera, I just couldn't justify the additional $50. With very little review of the instruction manual, I was changing the shooting mode for the camera and fine tuning white balance, etc. The camera is small and would fit easily into a **** pocket. In fact, I carred it around in the front pocket of my purse, so it was always with me. The menus have large print and are easy to read, something my 50+ eyes need. I didn't have any issues with the size of the buttons. All that being said, the cover for the connection to attach the camera to your computer is cheap plastic that pulls away from the camera. It is attached with a cingle miniscule piece of plastic. I envision this little piece of plastic falling off very shortly, leaving the connection slot exposed to dirt, etc.

Great digital camera if you know how to use manually.
by randomcuisine on February 12, 2011
Pros: Love the manual focus option, giving a slight blur on the background and great focus on the objects. Excellent for sceneries. Decent for food photography.
Cons: Automatic options sometimes are misleading. Bad at taking pictures at night.
Summary: Overall, if you know how to use all the camera functions manually, it is actually a decent camera. I always avoid using flashes and try my best to find good ...
Summary: Overall, if you know how to use all the camera functions manually, it is actually a decent camera. I always avoid using flashes and try my best to find good light sources when taking food pictures at night.
I have been using this camera for over two years, I'm still loving it even though I sometimes wish that I have a prosumer camera or DSLR. You can check all my food pictures taking with this camera on my recipe blog Random Cuisine: http://victor-recipe.blogspot.com -
You Should Get It!!!!
by marissa812 on February 16, 2009
Pros: It takes AWESOME pictures and has good zoom. When I took pics at Macinac Island, it was like I was there when I looked at the pictures! It turns on very fast! You can take pictures in the the darkest place on earth and the pictures still are perfect!
Cons: It takes a while to get use to, so if you are thinking of getting this as a girlf for a grandparent or older mother and/or father, I would recomend a different camera. When you project the picutes on a t.v it comes out kind of blurry.

Summary: After landing my first job out of college, my first priority was to get myself a digital camera. The Olympus waterproof one I originally wanted was over $200, so I opted for the Nikon Coolpix, based on price and the brand image of Nikon. Boy, did I get what I paid for. The camera was useless. Even when I had it, it didn't take good pictures at concepts or night events. I was still eager to learn, so I continued to take pictures, exploring all of the feature, hoping to ultimately take better pictures. Unfortunately, I didn't even get time to explore all the features, the CAMERA BROKE WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASE! I sent it in to the service department (which was a hassle) and they sent me an estimate for $100!!! I only spent $130 on the camera! I didn't drop the camera, just carried it in my coat pocket. They told me the camera wasn't built for this kind of use. My thinking is if they are going to advertise the camera as "the go everywhere camera" they should build it with a level of durability. I will never buy another Nikon camera again, and if you are thinking of purchasing this I highly recommend not.

It is a very bad digital camera
by notacriticalguy on December 26, 2008
Pros: Admittedly it is very cute and nice to look at but you don't buy a camera just to look at. Otherwise there is no pros for this one.
Cons: Images are blurred, particularly at the periphery of pictures even they were taken with the help of a tripod.
Summary: It takes very bad digital images, the 8 mpixel means essentially nothing if they can't translate to image quality.

Do Not Buy Camera because of Bad Lens Defect
by jrnuredeen on October 29, 2008
Pros: Camera is attractive
Pictures are just decent
Affordable at around $150
A good camera to try out as an amateur.
I wanted to get familiar with the product so I can work with the high end cameras.Cons: Always shows lens error
It is too sensitive and delicate

Summary: I got the camera on Mothers Day 2008. It was a display item. While on a business trip taking pictures, the lens was damaged. In the process of turning on the device the camera moved or jumped and then the camera fell on its face on its own. Trying to get it repaired you have to have your copy of the reciept from where you bought it, the camera of course, the description of the problem, and UPS shipping which is around $15.00. So from that point it is a waiting game to get info if they received your camera. Next you will get an emailed telling you they recieved it and to open the attachment containing the repair info. The cost is $99 on what they believe is a broken lens. There are two options if I do not agree with the quote. The first is to escalate it to another department. The operator will not promise anything. The next is to ship it back. I had the camera escalated. This issue is still in progress.
As for the Best Buy warranty, I recieved the camera Nov.2, 2008 and it seems to work perfectly. I am still waiting to hear from Nikon about the other camera. Will update my review when I hear otherwise.
Being that I am a fan of Nikon and really wanted the camera I bought the same exact model and wouldn't you know I have the same problem. I bought this camera around August 2008 from Best Buy and bought their warranty. This time I babyied it like it was a rare artifact and the lens errors still shows on the camera. It did not drop. I do not know why this happened. I took it to geek squad. The case right know is still pending. Both cameras have a 1 year factory warranty. The first camera does not have the Best Buy warranty but was shipped to Melville NY at Nikon Facilities. The second has the Best Buy warranty and was taken to the geek squad and I am receiving email updates. Both cases are pending and will update when things are finalized.

Pictures were ok, but bad quality after uploading them
by mdnur2009 on September 16, 2008
Pros: This was my second camera. I had an Exlim, but felt the need to update my camera. I got caught up in the hype of the Coolpix. The camera is pretty compact and easy to carry around. Not that difficult to operate.
Cons: Now all was well until I tried to upload my pictures on my brand new laptop. Most of my pics were corrupted when I transfered them to my computer. If anyelse had this problem please let me know how you fix it. I'm also looking for a new camera now :(
Summary: All in all, I am very disappointed with it. I puchased it from Costco, so they're going to give me a refund or store credit so I can find ...
Summary: All in all, I am very disappointed with it. I puchased it from Costco, so they're going to give me a refund or store credit so I can find another camera. But the fact the memory( that was included with the camera) corrupted my pictures really pissed me off. I have to spend extra money to get them printed out elsewhere, when instead I could have just used my personal pc. I contact Nikon to let them know of the problem, but didn't really get much assistance. So,this will be the first and last time I'll ever purchase a Nikon Camera.
