The good: The Nikon Coolpix S8200 is easy to use, has an excellent feature set for its price, and has a lot of fun shooting options to experiment with.
The bad: The S8200's autofocus can be slow at times, its flash is poorly placed, and its photo quality isn't for everybody.
The bottom line: The Nikon Coolpix S8200 might not be as easy to recommend as its predecessor, the S8100, but it's still a very good compact megazoom for the money.

Fantastic camera for such a small point-and-shoot!
by Imagecapturer on November 15, 2011
Pros: Small but powerful! Images are very sharp and clear, the battery lasts a LONG time, colors are accurate, camera is very easy to use and I am a professional photographer that got tired of carrying around my big DSLR! Large prints look fabulous!
Cons: The placement of the pop-up flash is a hassle as it is placed right under where my left index finger naturally falls while holding the camera--I don't think that a pop-up flash is necessary on a small point-and-shoot camera.
Summary: A fantastic camera for under $300.00 that almost rivals my $900.00 Nikon D5100 DSLR in image quality. I carry a camera with me EVERYWHERE, and am a compulsive ...
Summary: A fantastic camera for under $300.00 that almost rivals my $900.00 Nikon D5100 DSLR in image quality. I carry a camera with me EVERYWHERE, and am a compulsive shutterbug besides being a professional photographer--and have been since 2000. I got tired of carrying around my big DSLR for everyday shooting so I bought the Nikon Coolpix S8200 and am SO happy that I did. The S8200 captures images that are very sharp, clear and color accurate--and even when I print some of the images as large as 13" X 19" the prints look GREAT! The S8200 comes with a nice leathewr case that has a loop that fits on my belt, which is a big plus for me--there is even a little pocket indide the case for an extra SD card. I can't believe how good some of the captured images turn out--in most cases they are almost as good as those that I've captured with my $900.00 Nikon D5100 SLR! Not to mention the fact that the S8200 has a 16-megapixel sensor (like my big, more expensive camera)and has a 14X optical zoom that is handier than having to change lenses on my DSLR. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
