Pros: Fixed LCD screen.
Superior ISO performance.
SD card memory and two will fit in the space of one Compact Flash.
High frame rate.

Summary: I liked this camera so much I bought a second as a backup. Focus is spot on for both cameras. I own 6 Nikon DSLR's and never had a problem with one. All have perfect focus and have never needed to go back for service. I keep a different lens on each camera and use all of them. Contrary to what some over-rated photo gurus say, I have no problem with carrying multiple cameras out into the field.
This camera is not for amateurs. if you are not willing to put the effort into learning to use it, you shouldn't buy it. If you spend some time with it you will find it to be exceptional.
Pay no attention to those who complain about overexposure. This camera's metering system is subject oriented by design. For a better explanation see Thom Hogan's review: http://www.bythom.com/nikond7000review.htm
Anyway, you have the option to adjust settings or reduce exposure using the LCD if you don't like the default exposure. Again, you need to spend some time learning how to use this camera. I looked for hot/dead pixels on all my Nikons after the Nikon haters started posting about it but have never seen one. This is destined to be one of the greatest DX format cameras ever. -
Great DSLR with awesome low light capabilities
by fotocourses on January 19, 2012
Pros: Good in Low Light
100% Viewfinder
Dual Card systemCons: Video seems to be an issue but not for me as I have no personal interest.

Summary: I used this camera for a day recently and was very impressed. The layout is good and I was impressed with the images taken in low light. This is certainly a good mid range SLR which holds its own with the Canon equivalents. I did notice a few occasions where the camera meter tended to overexpose slightly but that was easily corrected. That said the Nikon metering is overall very good.

I LOVE my camera.
by evolving4 on December 11, 2011
Pros: User Friendly, excellent video, excellent sound quality, durable, comfortable to hold, excellent photos of the moon.
Cons: cost of additional lenses but that is a given with any camera.
Summary: Overall I love my camera. I have used the D90 (my daughters) and I thought that would be the camera for me until I held this one.

The Best DSLR I owned.
by scottshah on October 19, 2011
Pros: U1 and U2 settings. I use for U1 for outside and U2 for inside shooting so I don't have to change my Aperture, ISO or Shutter Speed separately, one click and is done.
Cons: None I can think of

Great Camera, tack sharp pics, plenty of user control
by SIM597 on August 31, 2011
Pros: Great at low light, build quality is excellent, great add ons like gps and Nikkor lenses and Nikon Speed-lights.
features only found on more expensive FULL Frame FX modelsCons: Video is not up to par with Canon, internal mic picks up focusing terribly in quieter situations and I don't like the position of video button.
I also agree with the editor on the buttons on left having to be paid extra close attention to.Summary: The couple of caveats I do have, can be gotten over with a relatively low priced camcorder, and I did buy this for stills only really, I took one test ...
Summary: The couple of caveats I do have, can be gotten over with a relatively low priced camcorder, and I did buy this for stills only really, I took one test video, and one at a zoo, I will still use video I guess once in a while, and weird as it is, the one that counted, there was absolutely no focus noise, it was pretty quiet outside for my little test vid, so under more quiet and gentle use, you will hear it focusing to point of distraction

remarkable camera - not professional but ....
by bwc56 on August 29, 2011
Pros: Image quality is excellent, the build quality gives you confidence the camera will be around for years. While I consider myself knowledgeable about photography, I execute poorly. This camera really makes getting an excellent exposure with excellent color
Cons: no 30 fps video, or for that matter no 60 fps video. (I rarely shoot video anyway)
Not unique to this camera - glass is expensive!! The kit lens 18- 105mm is just okay. $300 for it in the kit. If you can afford to upgrade to Sigma or Tamron 17 - 50mm f2.8Summary: You can use this camera as a point and shoot and get superior images. I am sorry I didn't have this when my kids were young! Summary: You can use this camera as a point and shoot and get superior images. I am sorry I didn't have this when my kids were young! I rarely get an unusable picture. I have hundreds of poorly focused or blurry image of my children growing up.Now that my kids are grown, I am more interested in photography as an art. My photographs are not good enough for an art studio, but I don't think the D7000 is the problem. This camera can take outstanding photographs. I suggest looking at the images on Flickr, just search D7000. Then search Flickr for other models your might consider.

Great improvement over my D80 at a reasonable price
by sedenton on July 21, 2011
Pros: 1) fast; 2) industrial strength construction; 3) great autofocus; 4) scene modes
Cons: Theere is definitely a learning curve if you want to take advantage of the camera's many features
Summary: A great improvement over the D90 and significantly better for still photos than the Canon 60D.
