Great Step Up from P&S
by HeartMan85 on March 17, 2011
Pros: Much better image quality than p&s. Light & stealthy. On board flash. Nice variety of filters. Easy to make changes with speed dial. Can choose among image dimensions, I like 3x2 for perfect 4x6 prints without having to crop.
Cons: Have to be careful how camera is held when using flash, finger can block light. Raw formate is orf, need to use oly software to convert to tiff to use ps. Slow af in low light.
Summary: If you want better quality shots then you get from your point and shoot, but don't want to buy or haul around a dslr, this camera offers a great ...

Fantastic pictures. Fun filter system built in camera.
by brainedesign on November 13, 2011
Pros: Picture quality is excellent, video quality is ok, but only mono sound. Nice size. Filter system in camera is allot of fun.
Size, feel of camera is a real plus-very easy to take and carry. LCD screen is very nice (eye view finder would be a nice addition)Cons: Continuous shooting is average for most situations. Eye view finder costs extra.
May take one awhile to learn all the capabilities of the camera.Summary: If you are looking for DSLR quality in a small footprint, this is an excellent choice. Pictures have amazing quality, clarity. Pictures are much better than my Panasonic FZ100.

Like the fact it can use old OM lenses w/ an adapter
by rrakoczy58 on June 23, 2011
Pros: I got this camera , in part, to be able to use my old lenses from my OM-10 film camera from days gone by. They work quite well, and the pictures are very good.
One can still use the various camera settings and manipulate the lens just like the old days ofCons: How come a viewfinder costs $135 ?? Looking at the screen in bright light and in other situations where one really wants to focus on the subject is a bit too hard sometimes. The viewfinder should NOT cost as much as it does, and probably should be inclu

SLR image quality without the bulk
by KetLim on May 29, 2011
Pros: Great image quality and fun to use.
All the controls you expect in a serious camera.
Good build quality.
Relatively compact.
Good kit lens: fast to focus and silent.
Easy to use
A camera you want to bring with you everywhere.Cons: Video quality is not as good as competitors
Control dial could be bigger
Optional lenses are too priceySummary: Entry level SLR image quality and performance in a package half the size. Not much bigger than a G12. Great option for serious photographers when an SLR is too bulky.

Great Fun Camera
by loglew on April 25, 2011
Pros: Small, Easy to operate, menu is not too tough to learn, great jpegs, nice art filters, auto focus is NOT slow. Pets and kids are not difficult to shoot.
Cons: Kit lens extends a little farther than I would Iike.

Summary: I read the CNET review and one of the con's mentioned is..."Not good for kids and pets"...well works good for me. I have shot my daughter playing tennis at 1/1000 shutter speed and you can almost read the brand on the tennis ball. She was playing on a clay court and I got shots of the ball kicking up the clay. I am no pro photographer either. I also have pics from a pro baseball game that came out extremely nice. The color is fantastic. Low light is really nice. I have friends with high end Canon's that are amazed at the quality of this camera and the images it produces. I can't say enough good things about it. I would buy this camera again even if it costs $100 more than I paid.

Where the hell is the orientation sensor???
by reng2005 on March 3, 2011
Pros: Nice image quality. Nice handling. Compact.
Cons: Where the hell is the orientation sensor???
Summary: Totally unfathomable. How Olympus could justify leaving out the orientation sensor in this otherwise terrific camera boggles the mind.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Olympus
- Part number: 262901
- Description: The PEN E-PL2 continues the PEN family's legacy of a small, light and simple design, intuitive interface and DSLR image quality and expands your creative potential with lens technology, live guide, in-camera creative features, auxiliary lenses, a close-up spotlight accessory for macro photography and the Olympus PENPAL Bluetooth accessory. And the newly designed E-PL2's ergonomic body makes capturing amazing still images and HD video more fun than ever before. The E-PL2 comes with the Movie and Still Compatible (MSC) ED m14-42mm f3.5/5.6 zoom lens. This kit lens has a smooth, silent and quick inner focus mechanism to make it exceptionally fast and nearly silent when recording high-definition movie. The PEN E-PL2's live guide system takes the guesswork out of great photography and videography by allowing you to preview effects at the touch of a button. Want more vivid or muted color in your shot? Want warmer or cooler color? Want a brighter or darker subject, or a sharper or softer background? Simply select live guide and turn the wheel on the back of the camera to slide through numerous photographic and videographic effects. Make adjustments and watch the LCD as the effects are made live - before the image is captured! The E-PL2 provides an overall excellent user experience with a large, easy-to-view 3.0-inch 460,000-dot high-resolution LCD monitor and a control dial. Olympus appreciates that you may not have hours to spend retouching your images on the computer. The E-PL2 has improved art filters with art filter variations that allow users to customize each filter with different moods and effects and an art effect function to add various composition effects to the picture. Six art filters are incorporated including the dramatic tone filter. With the E-PL2's multiple exposure you can shoot one shot, then another and combine them in real time, or capture both shots separately and combine them within the camera later. At the heart of the E-PL2 is a large-size image sensor. This big sensor is inside the much smaller body of the E-PL2. This high-performance 12.3-megapixel live MOS image sensor delivers excellent dynamic range, accurate color fidelity, and state-of-the-art technology to reduce noise and capture fine image details in both highlight and shadow areas. Recording HD movies with the E-PL2 is simple thanks to an easy-to-reach one-touch record button on the back of the camera body. If you're about to snap a photo and you realize a video would capture the spirit of the scene even better, simply press the record button and instantly you're capturing videos! Easily toggle back and forth between capturing stills and video by using your index finger to press the shutter button or your thumb to press the red record button. Having the ability to shoot still images and videos opens up a world of imaging possibilities.
