Excellent images, small package
by GazzBC on October 29, 2008
Pros: - Small and light
- Live view plus traditional viewfinder
- Very satisfied with quality of images
- 14-42 lens provides useful range for most purposes
- Cheaper than most comparable camerasCons: - Menu system too difficult to navigate (like most digital cameras, unfortunately)
- Manual focus isn't that easy to dial in compared to my old film SLRsSummary: I'm a pretty basic shooter, nothing too fancy but I appreciate having more control than what a point-and-shoot provides (e.g. depth of field). This camera fits the bill ...
Summary: I'm a pretty basic shooter, nothing too fancy but I appreciate having more control than what a point-and-shoot provides (e.g. depth of field). This camera fits the bill and I've been very pleased with the images. I haven't shot at anything faster than ISO 400, which is apparently a weakness of this camera.
What I like most about this camera is how compact it is. While it's no credit-card size model, my buddy's new 40D looks and feels like a monster truck in comparison. The downside is that the 420 and the kit lens don't seem to be very robustly built - adequate, but certainly not like my film SLRs of the past.
I process the raw images with iPhoto rather than the bundled software, so I can't comment on that.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great budget camera

Pros: Nice for the price, Large LCD Screen, Decent Learning Curve
Cons: Small lens compared to other models of similar price, no image stabilization

Summary: This is my first DSLR, and while i have played with many others, i have to say i have no large qualms with this model. I went on a 3 day trip and used it almost consistently, aside from a few blurred pictures caused by my lack of experience i can say that i am very pleased with the performance i got from it. All in all, if your a professional photographer that demands the most out of your camera, this isn't the one for you, if you a first time DSLR buyer and you don't have much experience with it, this is definitely a good model for you.

Outstanding and small, great pictures 4/3rds camera.
by Philip A Parker on March 8, 2009
Pros: Small like a 35mm film SLR, sharp lens fully featured digital camera. Handles well easy to learn and does everything I need. Love the 4/3rds system.
Cons: The flash is expensive. No after-market flashes at this time.
Summary: Bottom line I like it. You can take very professional shots. Quick focus and no complaints on image quality. My wife said you took these shots they look like post ...
Summary: Bottom line I like it. You can take very professional shots. Quick focus and no complaints on image quality. My wife said you took these shots they look like post cards! I like the scene modes with are many you can really dial in a subject quickly and easily. Also like the live view feature where you can look through the LCD image screen and zoom in on the image before shooting. Camera's small size, lightweight and easy operation a plus. The camera is easy to handle. Colors are very good to excellent. I don't have to photoshop every image. Feature I like the most is auto-bracket, and you can change anything (i.e ISO, WB, metering mode, etc) right on the LCD screen. Very cool and good value for the money. Wish the flash was more reasonably priced. Oh, and it has an automatic dust filter build right in!
