Best P&S Camera on the Market, PLUS Amazing HD Video
by jakemcgee on April 18, 2010
Pros: Excellent still & video camera, easy to use, almost like an slr.
Cons: Nothing for a camera in this class.

I've since used this camera to shoot a documentary, music videos, and even as a secondary camera in a short film. The video is AMAZING on this little thing...as are the stills.
Right out of the box, this camera is simple to use. As a still camera, it turns out crazy clear pictures, and the 12x Optical Zoom lens is pretty nuts for this sized camera. I first tried out the Nikon Coolpix S8000, and this thing stomps the Nikon in every way, including the lens. Yes, this 12mp camera turns out better pictures than Nikon's 14mp camera.
On top of being a great still camera, this takes GREAT HD video. Super clear, little to no feedback or distortion.
Then, if you get into the manual and learn how to really use this camera, there are so many manual adjustments (shutter speed, fstop, etc), it's almost as customizable as an slr camera, save for interchangeable lenses.
All in all, this is a great deal, and certainly at the top of the line.

Great camera at a great price!
by sandlaw44 on September 30, 2010
Pros: Shocker! I am old school with a Nikon, a few lens and a Rollieflex or 2. With kids and a go-go-go life-this is the best solution for msesy needs. Uncomplicated, but far superior that any other P & S I looked at before buying!
Cons: I havent found one yet!
Summary: If you want a great camera with a great balance of features, this is - hands down- the one to buy!

Excellent Camera!
by copguy85 on January 28, 2011
Pros: Takes fantastic pics even on zoom. Image stabilization is fantastic. Alot of great features too. Movie mode is excellent!
Cons: Battery is not a standard type battery, Panasonic only. When plugging the USB into the computer, you have to click on the option "PC" on the camera before downloading begins.

Summary: Excellent camera overall. Great photos, and lots of nice features!I've used several Kodaks before and was sick of the garbage pics it took. Paid a little more for this camera but well worth it. Takes fantastic pics even on zoom. Image stabilization is fantastic. Took pictures of my daughters play from about 60 feet away, low light, zoomed in on her face and the picture came about beautifully. Movie mode is excellent

Dust is drawn into camera when lens opens

Summary: Drawing dust into the camera when the lens opens is an enormous problem. When you extend the lens, dust is drawn into the internal components of the camera. It is not a matter of simply wiping it off. This problem is well documented on the Internet if you look. I found two very helpful videos from an Englishman who walks you through opening up the back and then the front of the camera. Opening up the back of the camera was a 13 minute video and took me about 45 minutes. Opening up the front of the camera was a 33 minute video and took me about 4 hours.
After cleaning both the back and front lens, the camera operated well for a short period of time, but then once again when the lens were extended, dust was drawn into the internal components once again.
I would not recommend this camera to a friend. -
Full of features, this is a great all around p&s camera
by smitht2ncc1701 on October 16, 2011
Pros: I have taken this camera to Washington D.C and from morning to night it performed amazingly well. The automatic mode does its job if not on a little low key mode. What I mean is that it doesn't take that many risks in the pics it takes. However, if you le
Cons: The Zs5 does have some drawbacks however. Anything above 400 ISO will produce some minor but still there grain and anything above 600 unless played with is very noticeable. The camera can be temperamental when dealing with its setting at times...requiring

Summary: I have had this camera for over a year and have gone to many places with it and I must say it has performed very admirably and better than expected. With its many many options, great looking pics in most modes, and super zoom capability, I would venture to say that its a great backup camera for anyone who is serious about photography OR someone who wants a very decent Point and Shoot camera at a great price. While not perfect, this is easily one of the best cameras I have ever owned and will be sad when I have to part with it. A nice looking LCD and high marks for photos printed on poster size prints...I recommend this with high remarks :)

BEST CAMERA EVER!!!!!!
BEST CAMERA EVER!!!!!!!!by ameliefr on February 13, 2011
Pros: Infinite settings for like 30 different types of subjects to photograph, from food to portraits to landscapes to sunsets! Amazing indoor shots and outdoor, the quality of pictures is what I have always looked for, sharp, crisp and so bright. A+++
Cons: More explanations on the different picture modes would help, I had to play with the camera to learn the ropes. This is normal with any new technology, you can't expect to turn it on and work magic without knowing how, so really, no cons yet anyways!

Summary: I had been reading reviews on cnet and watching countless videos on the Nikon L110, the Canon Sureshots, and even a few Samsungs and the Sony Cybershot. I was at best buy today and tried a few out. The Nikon was true to the reviews, some advantages but rather bulky, especially since I'll be going to Europe with my camera and carrying it around alot, and the pic quality wasn't awesome either, especially when zooming in. Then I tried the Sony and was rather dissapointed. Tiny awkward thing to hold and with only 4x the zoom, you can't accomplish much in concerns of shooting landscapes. The menu seemed complicated to get around as well, I became frustrated quickly. The Canon was really great, I think it was 329.99$ range, available in Black, Purple and Gold, and while I was really taken with it, I asked the clerk and he suggested the panasonic and pointed out that it is a very un-noticed company for cameras, and boy was he right. I paid 279.99$ which was more than I had budgeted for the camera but I also knew I wanted quality of pictures, and sharpness of images and am beyond happy with this camera. I tried shaking it while taking a picture and the image stabilizer is extraordinary.
If you are looking for a GREAT digital camera, I strongly advise the Panasonic Lumix ZS5!!! You will not be dissapointed! -
Great pictures but toss software and turn on the lights
by l_campos on January 4, 2011
Pros: Love the 12x zooming, the menus are easy to follow. The facial recognition work great and the quality of the videos are great.
Cons: You do have to over compensate if there is poor lighting. Used AI feature hoping it would adjust and it never did so I went manual - once I did the pics totally rocked. Poor placement of audio features. Plus, toss the software, its useless.
Summary: Great unit for high quality pics and for HD videos of the kids. But toss the software and make sure to keep your fingers off the mic/speaker, I never ...

Best Compact Camera under Normal Light and Flash
by Las_Vegas_Crazy on January 1, 2011
Pros: Excellent daylight and sunset performance. Excellent available menus enable quick adjustments enabling creative and beautiful pictures. Excellent lens, good sensor (in daylight). Small and unobtrusive size.
Cons: Night and low light use with out the flash, well, this is when the sensor shows it's bad side. If the sun has set and your not using the flash, forget about it
Summary: This camera can shoot excellent pictures. Even some "wow" sunset shoots, no kidding. Fast on the fly adjustments of white balance and exposure values makes the difference. Nice sharp lens, ...
Summary: This camera can shoot excellent pictures. Even some "wow" sunset shoots, no kidding. Fast on the fly adjustments of white balance and exposure values makes the difference. Nice sharp lens, if you are shooting for anything less than a huge print, you'll be impressed. I can get better colors out of this baby than I can from my departed D5000. Nice small size so as not to scare away your 'victim", you know what I mean, doesn't intimidate like a DSLR will. Night shoots a good to very good with the flash. Complements a DSLR, and if you can live with it's nighttime uselessness, it's a winner.

Summary: I gave this camera a good test in low light & british sporting situations & it's picture quality appears to not have been the focus of this camera. I own a Fuji F200 EXR & the photo quality blew my mind with some of the situations (low lit concerts) that I put it through & the picture quality was outstanding, but the video quality is 640 x 480 pixels, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames/sec. with monaural sound & Zoom function cannot be used during movie recording. Good Luck & choose your evils carefully:) or choose both like me.

Rather disappointed
by tgills2 on October 25, 2010
Pros: Honestly, I haven't found anything that overly impressed me.
Cons: I did alot of research for months before deciding which to purchase. Previously I have an older Sony Cybershot overall I feel still takes better consistant pics. Too many blurred pics and the quality is inferior unless you enhance each picture.
Summary: I get more blurred pictures than any other camera I have ever had. The saturation of color is inferior. I feel it takes just an "OK" picture. And it is ...

If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't buy it. I previously had a Sony Cybershot and I wished I had gotten the same again.
