The good: Fast Live View AF and single-shot performance; tiltable LCD; dual card slots; relatively simple, straightforward operation; built-in wireless flash and image stabilization; helpful SteadyShot indicator.
The bad: Smallish grip; middling viewfinder; default settings produce suboptimal photos.
The bottom line: The Sony Alpha DSLR-A330 is a solid entry-level dSLR that will surely have its fans, but unless you really want Live View, its cheaper sibling, the A230, is a better deal.

Outstanding camera at a great price.
by clay58 on February 15, 2010
Pros: Live view, swivel LCD screen. Very fast auto focus. Love the connection ports behind a sliding door. Very user friendly camera that is easy to change settings on. The Sony Alpha 330 is worth the extra $100 over the Alpha 230.
Cons: Some buttons are placed in hard to reach location. Burst mode could be faster but it is still good. Want a faster burst speed then move up to the Alpha 500.
Summary: This Sony will do all you need in a budget priced DSLR. Is it as good as a $1.200 camera? No, but at this price point it is hard ...
Summary: This Sony will do all you need in a budget priced DSLR. Is it as good as a $1.200 camera? No, but at this price point it is hard to beat. I am thrilled with this camera and count this as money well spent. The live view, and swivel screen are a big plus and I would not want a camera without these features. I have taken many action photos in a gymnasium with very bad lighting. The Sony performs well even without a flash and I get good photos. Even if you know nothing about using a DSLR the built in help guide on the Sony will help you take great photos. You can use an SD card or Sony Memory Stick. Also has HDMI output for connecting to a HD TV. All in all this is a fantastic camera that I am thrilled with.

Great beginning photography camera
by sjc912 on July 17, 2010
Pros: Has all the basics a beginning photographer might need. The swivel screen is super useful. This camera gives you just what you need for the reasonable price.
Cons: Agree with the other users that mentioned the slow auto-burst. Sometimes it jams (if the flash is in the wrong setting).
Summary: As a beginning photgrapher this gift was perfect for learning to understand space and dimension as a photagrapher. I have been using the Sony A330 without any bells and whistles (...
Summary: As a beginning photgrapher this gift was perfect for learning to understand space and dimension as a photagrapher. I have been using the Sony A330 without any bells and whistles (no filters, telelenses, etc.) so all the images are always in great quality despite the low cost of the camera. Would highly recommend this as a household camera.

A good simple beginner DSLR entry level camera
by salova23 on June 10, 2011
Pros: Simple to use. Pictures are crisp. Viewfinder is nice
Cons: Battery life is horrible. If you plan to take light streaks and long exposure, remember to get an extra battery. Drains really fast.
Summary: My first DSLR. Very simple to use and helped my shutterbug experiences. Learnt alot from this camera due to the simple instructions when changing settings like aperture, shutter speed. Light ...
Summary: My first DSLR. Very simple to use and helped my shutterbug experiences. Learnt alot from this camera due to the simple instructions when changing settings like aperture, shutter speed. Light and compact.
However battery drains out really fast. Always need to be charged after a day of use.
Excellant camera for beginners before venturing into other cameras in the DSLR mode. -
Looking for a Nikon 3000, left with Sony Alph DSLR-330

Pros: More bang for the buck, image stablilization in the body not the lens, I like having the option of either live
view or view finder, easy to use, great first camera if your tiered of point and shoot and want to step up
to a DSLRCons: No Video included

Great for first time DSLR buyers!
by theasterbunnyghost on July 30, 2010
Pros: Large, tilting screen, easy to use, comfortable in smaller hands, pretty darn good picture quality if you mess around with it
Cons: Picture quality can be a little iffy, shutter speed is sometimes slow

Summary: Bought this as my first DSLR- I'm very pleased. I do almost wish I went with the Rebel because the photo quality seems to be a little iffy on this camera- however, if you play around with it you can get some excellent photos. Compared to the competition I chose this camera because of the large, tilting screen, the fact that it is easy to use, and also that it's quite comfortable in my (smaller) hands.
My suggestion would be to go to a store and hold all the cameras, get a feel for them, and see what you like best. It all really comes out to personal opinion- but I'm quite happy with my purhcase. -
I'd best head to the store see if they fit my hands!

Pros: built-in wireless flash
Cons: small grip.. but i have small hands so should be alright :o)
