Great Pictures!
by mrleowashingtonii on March 7, 2007
Pros: Packed with features, video recording, wide angle photos, lots of settings, works as USB drive when connected.
Cons: Only 24 megs of space, Slightly delayed response time when taking pictures, but better than most.
Summary: I bought this camera to replace an older 3 megapixel camera I had, which was on it's last leg. I have a newborn on the way, and wanted to ...
Summary: I bought this camera to replace an older 3 megapixel camera I had, which was on it's last leg. I have a newborn on the way, and wanted to be able to take pictures of her when she decides to come out.
I am impressed by this camera. It has excellent features and takes great pictures, the response time from when the shutter button is pressed to when the picture is taken could be better, but I have seen worse - much worse. I like the ease of use of the camera - I never had to read the directions to use it. Overall it is a great camera for everyday use. Not for the photographer or enthusiast.6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Don't Buy this camera

Summary: I bought this because my Kodak Easy Share was stolen. I thought this would be comparable. I was wrong. The pictures are often blurry, it takes forever to take the actual picture. I have had many subjects ask "did it take it yet" because it takes so long. The software is bad as others have stated and there aren't any upgrades you can get like a better lens. (that I can find) Also seems to go through batteries faster than the Kodak - rechargeable.

Model numbers go up; Feature set goes DOWN!

I had a DSC-S600, the camera before this one. I figured that with the model numbers going up, the feature set on this series of cameras would improve. Well I was wrong, and there are some problems with this unit that will be having me return it tomorrow, GLADLY paying a restocking fee and chalking it up to my ignorant trust in a name brand company.
Stuff I do like:
• They did upgrade from 6MP to 7.1MP. Not that I would ever shoot that high anyways, in favor of disk space usage (99% of the time folks just want good snapshots. How often have you really printed out an 11x17photo lately?). But there are more pixels if you want.
• Small LCD screen (2in.) saves batteries- big time!
• It takes AA batteries. I use rechargeable AA's and get and insane amount of use ( >400 shots). When in a bind, or another country you can just pick up AA's when the batt is dead and keep going. Try that with a proprietary battery!
Now the CONS! These are actually steps BACKWARD!!!
• Camera feels VERY cheap- not sturdy at all.
• Movies resolution has been halved from 640 by 480! ONLY the minuscule 320 by 240 is avail. now!!!
• Movies are .avi's now, not .mpg's
• The audio is distorted at conversational levels. Oh, and it doesn't play back the audio when reviewing a video on the unit. No speaker?
...and the real kicker?...
• YOU canNOT USE A STANDARD USB CABLE LIKE ALL OTHER CAMERAS do! Instead, the cable is a normal USB connector on 1 side, and some NEW connector that LOOKS similar to standard Mini-USB. If you loose or misplace this special cable, you're screwed!
Unfortunately none of these important cons were mentioned on any review site I found. So I'll be returning this tomorrow.
Hope this helps you in your decision! Have a nice day.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: i replaced my nikon coolpix 3100 (which is a 3.2 mega pixel camera) with this cam. i was surprised to see the poor image quality, specially the sharpness of the outdoor images. most of the show off features are very poor in result. like for example- the iso feature give extremely poor images. on the contrary it gives reasonable quality images comparing to the similar price range cameras. but if your are a serious photographer and image quality is a major issue.. i'd suggest dont buy it!

Great Camera for the Money

Summary: I was in the market for a new digital camera because I had not upgraded in quite some time. I studied the features of all the cameras in the $130 range and came to the conclusion that Sony offers the best mix of features for the money. I also found the Sony website to be helpful in offering free online photography courses to help the user maximize the cameras capabilities while educating me on how to take the best possible pictures. So far I have used this camera to take both still and action pictures. Both have come out well. The only drawback with this camera is that it lacks a viewfinder. Now, this is not very important if the majority of your pictures are taken indoors. However, out in the direct sunlight, it is very difficult to know if you are centering your subject in the LCD. After a while, you may get proficient at guessing, but I would just prefer a viewfinder instead or trial and error. Other than the lack of a viewfinder, I really find no fault with this camera.

Summary: Even my 3.2megapixel Sony camera did way better than this. It takes very dark pictures even outside on a sunny day if you are not in the glare of the sun. THis is very bad and totally unexpected of Sony. I cant even obtain a refund because the store Staples has a 14 day return policy and it expired. Dont pay more than $30 for this camera. A plastic disposable or a camera phone can take same or better pictures.

My SONY DSC-S600 is junk after 16 months

Summary: My DSC-S600 was a nice camera when I first got it. But after 2 months it started having problems. It occasionally lost contact with the memory stick. We missed lots of photos at Disney last year with this problem. Sent it in under warranty for repairs (slow to repair) and it worked for about a month after getting it back. Should have sent it back, but with busy life, didn't get to it in time. Now it doesn't recognize the installed memory stick at all. If I squeeze the camera where the memory stick is sometimes it connects. Service company wants $120 minimum to repair - comparable cost to new one with warranty. 16 months and this Sony camera is JUNK! BEWARE!!!

Its difficult to get a good picture out of this camera
by feroen on October 1, 2009
Pros: small and light weighted
Cons: flash to harhs or not at all. Overexposure on pictures or not enough light. Due to the very small screen unable to really avaliate the quality of a picture taken, only to find out later that the picture is blurred and not suitable for print.
Summary: This was my first Sony camera. And it will be my last. It´s obvious that Sony is no camera expert.

Before using = Awful
After using = WORSE.
Don't buy.by Dracwolley on September 13, 2009
Pros: Hmm... nothing?
Cons: Hard to hold, hard to operate, confusing scene modes, horrible picture quality, always grainy, bad white balance, tiny LCD screen, non-stationary lens, breaks easily, takes AA batteries, the list goes on and on...

Summary: I never really liked this camera from the beginning. The buttons were hard to press and oddly placed, and the LCD was quite small. The styling of the camera looked like it was from out of the nineties. Looking further and using the camera a bit, the technology and build quality apparently also came out of the nineties. Just look at the cons list above. This camera is horrible to use. DON'T BUY IT.

Battery Hog

Pros: Takes decently photos. Sometimes its grainy, but I have taken good shots with it.
Decent amount of options
Light
CheapCons: THIS THING IS A BATTERY HOG. I cannot use it constantly for more than 15 minutes without the batteries dying on me. Too bad this camera uses AA...:'(

Summary: You certainly get what you pay for. A salesperson at Best Buy was trying to convince me not to get this one because it used AA batteries, but I didn't listen. What a mistake. This camera's battery life is horrendous. It takes nice photos and has nice features, but I get pissed off because I can only use it for 15 minutes.
