Wide angle not sharp on one side-otherwise good camera.
by Photorpg on November 7, 2010
Pros: Compact size, generally accurate auto focus, well built, reasonable price.
Cons: Lack of sharpness on one side-right side at wide angle. Otherwise not much to complain about-the price is reasonable though no manual operation.

Summary: I bought this camera as a travel camera. My Canon G10 was really too bulky for a pocket or pants pocket. The size and price of the Sony DSC-W350 are just about right. My major complaint against this camera is that at least 1/3 of the frame in this case the right side when the wide angle setting is selected is fuzzy. I returned the first camera I bought since the left side was fuzzy-now I have a camera with a 1/3 fuzzy right side-take your pick. This is too bad since many people will want to take advantage of the ultra wide angle lens this camera offers-especially for vacation architecture photography as well as landscapes. Some wide angle shots are better than others for some strange reason. If you use the middle of the zoom range-sharpness is pretty good. On all other accounts the camera has pretty good performance though do not expect miracles. There is no manual control. Noise is evident even at ISO 80. Flash is good out to 10 feet. Autofocus performance is pretty good though not accurate 100 percent of the time. So long as you understand that this camera is a budget compact you will not be disappointed. If I were willing to spend some more money the new Canon S95 might be the best bet as it is pocketable and offers good performance though it costs twice as much. I tried the HD Video but found it did play well on my computer.

"Pretty don't ride"
by pmbaker1 on April 24, 2010
Pros: Attractive camera, great size well designed.
Cons: "Flat" looking photos, lacked the depth/ richness of with my old Canon PowerShot SD800. Camera was supposed to be able to use a standard SD card every other time or so the camera was turned on it came back with a message "memory not found."
Summary: Kept the camera for about 2 weeks and returned it. Used old PowerShot SD800.

DO NOT Buy this camera
by helppme on November 24, 2010
Pros: Video recording very good.
Cons: Slow shutter, terrible battery, 2 hrs to charge, cheap easy breakable latch to battery, .

In the Easy Mode (auto), there are some great features. The problem
is that you have to push the shutter half way down to focus the picture.
This takes too much time and you never great the picture you want. It does
have another mode where it just snaps the picture without the shutter delay
but then you do not have any of the options available in the Easy Mode.
The battery life is terrible and it takes forever to charge. Buying a spare
battery is very expensive. The latch to the memory and battery compartment
is too small and dainty. Since you always have to open it up to get the battery out
you wonder how long before it breaks.
A good feature, the HD video is great and easy to use.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: size, and Carl Zeiss lens.
Cons: bad pictures- blur easily. slow shutter speed on burst. I was not able to buy a back up battery for this camera.

Summary: I personally do not care for the smile features and wish it had the option to turn it off. The steady shot did not seem to work on mine. Pictures seemd blurred even those on auto focus on a tripod using the 2 sec timer. I enjoy taking pictures of fighter planes and my old cyber shot DSC w80 7.2 mega pix takes better pictures and the shutter is so much faster. I use the old one on auto when photographing the planes and have some wonderful pictures. This dsc w350 took forever on auto to photograph a fighter on burst the burst did not work on mine for these shots. It would take only one picture after seeming to struggle to track the plane. I was really hoping with this being a 14.1 pix the picture quality would be better and I was disappointed. The sound quality on the video was worse but the image on the video was better than my old camera. I have only had this for three days and I will be returning it. I am sticking with my old one for now while I continue to shop around.

Could have been a great product
by benjaminwb on August 13, 2010
Pros: Sleek design and its response time between pictures is very quick.
Cons: Bad customer support, terrible hinge design holding the battery and sd card in, the hinge would only get worse since the cameras battery must be removed to charge. When using the flash a black corner is left in every picture.

Summary: I bought this camera yesterday based on Sony's reliability and good name. I immediately noticed a black corner that took up about an eight of the screen in all the pictures that used the flash. From what I can see it is a design flaw where the flash is too close to the lens, its the closest I've ever seen on any camera. When the flash is triggered the lens blocks the light from reaching the bottom left portion of the screen. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Sony only to provide absolutely no help whatsoever. They could not have cared less about the issue. I wanted them to provide me with a different camera while I paid the difference because this one obviously has a design flaw but after fighting with them for 2 hours it was a no go. First Sony product I have bought in a long time and will definitely be my last with such unreliable customer service staff. Fortunately the store where I ended up taking it back to did not charge me the 15% restocking fee like they were supposed to which is why I called Sony to begin with. It's just really disheartening that no one at Sony cares enough to do anything to satisfy a customer. It's not like I was asking for anything free, I mean come on... I ended up getting a Samsung TL210 which I highly recommend to anyone. It is built better and takes higher quality photos without the black spot.

OK photos, Video playback not working correctly.
by GarryTuggle on March 6, 2010
Pros: Small size, easy to use, good quality photos for a small camera.
Cons: Video playback not in sync with audio. Tried several PCs and different software players. Called Sony but did not resolve the problem.

Summary: Purchased this camera last week to replace a Cannon SD1100IS which we use when traveling. Liked the small size and ease of use of the Cannon. The Sony DSC W350 takes good photos but so far we have been unable to resolve the Video/Audio problem. Video on the Cannon worked great, guess I expected the Sony to be as good. Will probably return it to the store and exchange for a different brand if we can't get the problem resolved.
