Bad image quality... too much fishbowl effect on images
by biddu_d on November 18, 2010
Pros: Compact and sleek camera
Cons: Bad fishbowl effect on images
Summary: This is supposed to be a camera, 3D etc are just gimmicks. So, if image quality is not ok, what is the use of this camera? Probably ideal for kids ...

The TX9 is a revolution as regards interior shots.
by zardoc on November 7, 2010
Pros: I found the Sony TX9 to be a very impressive small camera for interior shots. For shooting outside you have a multiplicity of alternatives
Cons: The TX9 is a revolution as regards interior shots and a great deception for exterior photography. I observed that the majority of pictures lack clarity for the only reason that the antiglare coat on the lens if of a very bad quality.

I will not comment on the specifications of the Sony TX9 camera, as this has been done everywhere on the web, I shall simply concentrate on my personal experience. I found the Sony TX9 to be a very impressive small camera for interior shots. For shooting outside you have a multiplicity of alternatives, this forces you to consult the PDF manual included on the accompanying CD-Rom. A paper manual would have been more relaxing to read, however. One has to go through 190 grueling pages?
1. Sound and vision are of an absolutely remarkable quality in the AVCHD 1080i FH mode.
2. The panoramic format is nice to look at on the camera screen but is disappointing on the computer screen. Pictures are blurry and lack detail. Same with panoramic pictures with the 3D effect, although panoramic images are quite amusing.
3. I must say I greatly appreciate the TX9 focusing system. It is impressive and gives you a variety of choices.
The bad news :
The TX9 is a revolution as regards interior shots and a great deception for exterior photography. I observed that the majority of pictures lack clarity for the only reason that the antiglare coat on the lens if of a very bad quality. Indeed, even if this is a Carl Zeiss objective, if you happen to point your camera toward a strong light your pictures will be filled with cyan rays and shall have no contrast. A very bad point for the Sony TX9. This camera is revolutionary for interior photography but it comes with an objective which is incapable of functioning well in any exterior situation. Most disappointing.
So, in short, the Sony Cybershot TX9 is a revolutionary camera, very amusing to use and probably an excellent one to travel with.
Having bought a Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 a few years back, I shall use it for exterior photography and use the TX9 for its excellent results in difficult lighting situations. I shall leave to others the heavy and costly photographic objectives...
