We had our camera for 8 months-Now it is not repairable
by julianewerner on December 13, 2011
Pros: Great pictures in the dark. We loved this camera. Battery held up really good. Loved the panoramic pictures.
Cons: The touch screen was hard to use especially in the water and after coming out of the water. After 7 mon. the touch screen was acting up, we send our camera to sony's repair service. They didn't repair our camera. We have to buy a new one no warranty.
Summary: Well waterproof, shock proof, dust proof - I don't believe that anymore.

We send in our camera in because our touch screen would stay in waterproof mode. We thought we have a 1 year warranty and when we received our camera back, we thought great - everything is fixed. We put our memory card in the camera, but the camera wouldn't accept the memory card. We called Sony again and as a courtesy they gave us a FEDEX sticker to get this part repaired. After two weeks we still didn't get our camera back and so we called Sony. They told us that they called us and that they are not able to repair. They implied that we broke the camera through misuse. They said that there is a hole in the camera and water entered the camera and corroded the inside of the camera. They stated that this damage is not under warranty and they won't replace the camera or repair it. Why didn't they tell us that the camera is broken after we send it in the first time? We asked for a report but they won't provide any information about the repair service. I was connected to different departments, I filed a complaint and nobody seemed to listen or try to help us understand what we did wrong. One associate even implied I was lying and that we damaged the camera. Sony customer service is the worst. I don't believe that we damaged our camera, I think that something happened during the repair and they are trying to cover it up. Why else are they not releasing records and why did they have us send in the camera a second time.
I spend many hours on the phone with SONY for nothing - just aggravation. There customer service is the worst.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

A decent choice for rugged cameras, but needs tweaking
by overpanic on May 25, 2011
Pros: Doesn't look like a toy (unlike other "rugged" cameras)
Available in multiple colors (but best in black and silver)
Waterproof, shockproof, dustproof, freeze-proof
Sliding cover actually protects lens (unlike other "rugged" cameras)
"Intelligent" and "SupCons: Non-rubberized case, feels like cheap plastic (although probably isn't)
Battery life when using "Superior" auto mode is poor (likely due to effect of taking multiple exposures with digital processing)
Touch screen can be poorly responsive, occasionally frSummary: Overall, this is a decent choice of rugged camera, which will not look silly or out of place if you're using it outside of a rugged environment. It performed ...
Summary: Overall, this is a decent choice of rugged camera, which will not look silly or out of place if you're using it outside of a rugged environment. It performed admirably well on my most recent trip, which included mountain biking, paragliding, and white water rafting. Picture quality is excellent in most situations, and the camera includes a host of features and shooting modes that are well worth the price.
However, the camera could be improved in a number of ways. As an iPhone user, the touch screen feels clunky and poorly responsive to touch, and I would expect significant improvements on Sony's next model. The menu system is confusing and not at all intuitive - and as all of the camera's features are accessed through it, you're left using the camera's "superior auto" mode most of the time, which does take excellent pictures but significantly depletes the battery life.
As a "rugged" camera, it likely could use some tweaks as well. A rubberized texture, rather than the smooth plastic texture they used, would give the camera a more secure feel in the hand. The entire back of the camera is comprised by the touchscreen, which has neither a protective raised rubber edge nor a screen protector, which leaves it vulnerable in my opinion to both cracking and getting scratched. I do like the sliding cover in the front, which protects the lens, but this also would benefit from a rubberized texture which would make opening and closing the sliding mechanism much easier.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase, and I plan to use this camera for a long time to come. I do feel a little betrayed by Sony that their proprietary AVCHD movie format cannot be read by my Apple computer, and that the included software disc only includes programs for a PC - but I imagine I will find a workaround for this problem in the future. You do have the option of using MP4 movie format on the camera as well, which I suppose I will have to use from now on.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very nice and Compact Camera.
by birdyny on February 16, 2012
Pros: Sony tradition of quality pictures and video. Haven't used the extreme features yet such as underwater photography but I like the compact design that easily fits in your pocket. Takes great pictures in low lighting.
Cons: Getting use to touch screen sometimes a little sensitive.
Summary: If your looking for a compact camera to take HD video and high quality pictures do so. But if u want a power house then u should look else where. ...

Takes nice Photos and Video but has other problems.
by JmorTech on February 15, 2012
Pros: Keeps in the Sony tradition of quality pictures and video. Haven't used the extreme features yet such as underwater photography but I like the compact design that easily fits in your pocket.
Cons: The software platform is cumbersome, the touch screen is clunky, and trying to upload videos to your computer sucks. Your videos are shot in .cpi format (HD video) and that file is unreadable by all major video viewing and editing software.
Summary: Why would Sony create videos in a file format that is not universally accepted? It doesn't even offer its own software to transfer (or view) video. It will however ...
Summary: Why would Sony create videos in a file format that is not universally accepted? It doesn't even offer its own software to transfer (or view) video. It will however populate three different screens when you plug your camera into your computer and upload your photos by date (who cares).. Not exactly a smooth process...
If your looking for a compact camera to take HD video and high quality pictures do some in-depth research so your not all gathered around your little camera trying to watch a video play back because it wont allow you to upload it to a computer. -
Great go anywhere camera

Really great camera all around.
by huffman150 on June 7, 2011
Pros: Intelligent Auto, Panorama Mode, Size, Durability, Photo Quality. Awesome camera all around. Made for the outdoor enthusiast. Waterproof, dust proof, drop proof, and freeze proof.
Cons: Low light performance isn't that great. The touch screen tends to be finicky when scrolling and zooming. Loading/processing time could be better for things like zooming, previewing, and deleting photos. These issues are minor compared to the pros.
Summary: Awesome camera. I do a lot of outdoor activities and this camera holds up in the most rugged situations. I take it hiking, camping, backpacking, swimming, off-roading, to the bar. ...
Summary: Awesome camera. I do a lot of outdoor activities and this camera holds up in the most rugged situations. I take it hiking, camping, backpacking, swimming, off-roading, to the bar. It's been dropped, dunked, sat on, and everything else. Picture quality is great, especially in good lighting. Night shots are good with the flash. Shoots really nice video. The panorama mode is awesome. I get some awesome panoramic shots out of the camera.
I love it, you'll love it, go buy it.
