I was pleasantly surprised, exceeds the reviews

Pros: Spot on focus at all times, zero fumbling to focus the camera at any instant
Contrary to the negative comments, the EVF shows you exactly what you will get for pictures
The panorama feature shows promise
The video capabilities show promise
ICons: It really does eat batteries, two batteries are a necessity

Summary: I went with the SLT A33 because the geotagging feature was not so important to me and I wanted to learn the camera prior to a cruise. I have the camera for a week, and have foiund my expectations to be exceeded.
I avoided the Digital SLR scene because I was not satisfied with the prices to get a sensor with reasonable pixel count and the heft of the cameras. So I put up with point and shoot cameras for a number of years and settled on the quality of pictures.
The prices for Digital SLRs have been shrinking and the digital trend was to eliminate the viewfinder, something that I truly missed. So I took the plunge for a Digital SLR and settled on the A33. It really came down to the Canon T2i vs the Sony A33, and the focus speed was what won me over. The losing of camera body weight or the smaller body size didnt hurt either.
I realize that I focused on different attributes than many of you, but for me, if a camera is too heavy, or has too many accessories which require your carrying around that big bag, it tends to be left behind. The availability of a full feature Digital SLR which can be brought anywhere in any situation really won me over.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great while it's working.

Pros: Great video capture, Fast shutter speeds and really great shots! Compact for a DSLR tyle camera. Light weight too! Fast AF and swivel screen is awesome!!
Cons: Battery life is not all that bad but build quality should be better. short video time as with all DSLR's that take video. Really the only thing is the build quality.
Summary: I have had my A-33 and two others since march/april 2011 and use them semi professionally. All three have been out for repair at least once. Light metering problems, ...
Summary: I have had my A-33 and two others since march/april 2011 and use them semi professionally. All three have been out for repair at least once. Light metering problems, lens compatibility issues. F-stop issues, etc. I think the Translucent mirror is a great Idea but i'm not quite sure it's ready for the masses just yet. I think i'll try one of the Micro four thirds next. This is a great camera just not for extened or high usage. The CCD sensor does overheat and cause damage to itself. And the mirror will darken over time making the metering modes flip out. But all in all I'd still recommend it but just make sure you get the EXTENDED warranty! and a back up camera.

Great intro camera
by Sibil71 on July 16, 2011
Pros: Easy to pick up and use without dSLR knowledge
Takes great pictures even in low light
FastCons: I would've liked a few artistic modes built in (but I'm a casual user without any serious photo-editing software)

Summary: This is my first dSLR camera and I'd actually gone in to the store planning to buy the Canon Rebel T2i (I'd looked at the Sony A33 online/read reviews but thought I'd like the Canon better). The shop owner said, "Go ahead and try it, and then try the camera you're going to buy - the Sony A33." I laughed it off a little, but after my husband and I tried the Canon and Sony, the clear choice was the Sony A33. It was so much faster and easier to use than the Canon and speed was one of the things that was really important to me. I've had the camera for about 7 months now and have been really happy with it. Excellent buy for a first-time dSLR user thanks to the Auto and Auto+ settings, helps bridge the gap up from the point and shoot.
