Hello, Sometimes V 2.4 does not work on some computers . However if V 2.3
works then you should be fine. Some computers like V2.4 and some don't. Do
not know why.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great product for the price. Divx playback now available
by jskrlj on January 25, 2006
Pros: plays mpg, divx, xvid, mp2, and jpg files
Cons: Pausing video, causes audio to get out of synch with video.
Summary: Lets you play mp3's off your computer, while simultaneously watching a slideshow of pictures from your HD.

Let's you watch downloaded video content on TV including divx, xvid and wmv files. Divx capability with processor 1.8GHz or higher.
With dvix files doesn't really let you FF or RW. Pausing the file causes the video to get
out of synch with audio.
I gave it such a good rating because there are no other "cheap" alteratives to what this does. I bought 3 of them. One for myself, one for neighbor, and one for parents.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

overall- i am very impressed.
note that the new remote also controls PVR pci cards from the same manufacturer.
i would be curious to know if one could hook it up via a wireless bridge.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: The Media MVP is a great device for a simple interface to you PC's media files to you TV. The device gives you the ability to plug in with either standard RCA plugs or SVIDEO (video) and Composite (audio). It plugged into my Pioneer receiver perfectly. The user interface is simple to use. Browsing media files is easy. You can identify folders to access via the PC application or from the device itself. I have been able to play most of my media no problem.
The setup was a bit tricky. The software out of the box was a complete failure, but Hauppauge's website was easy to find the upgrade and download it. Once the upgrade was installed the device worked like a charm.
This is a great Media Extender for the price!!! -
Digital Player for your TV using PC

Freeware Hauppauge MediaMVP Skin Theme/Plugin replacements area now available on my blog here http://mediamvpskins.blogspot.com/ Make that old GUI on the wired or wireless MediaMVP stand out on your new HDTV or older SDTV.
The default GUI is awful, this year I decided to change the default GUI with something more pleasing: images are located here: http://www.putfile.com/tipstir/mediamvp
Just google Midnight ClearMist ES
The MediaMVP uses software that you install on the PC you have your media files on. It uses DHCP server tool which is very easy to setup and save your network locations of your files to it. So that he MediaMVP can display for you.
The picture you see here is what it looks like. The remote is the older 34-button, there is a new 45-button which is easy to use.
Now if you want to go use this device as a real DVR you need software to do that. GBPVR www.gbpvr.com has that for free. SAGETV also recommend. Both allow you to use MediaMVP with the PC to control features look at the TV Guide setup channels to record, watch Live TV, pause it, FF/RR it and record from it. Now you'll need a fast PC with 2.0GHz 1GB of RAM, Network Cards for your desktop PC and a Router. Also need to purchased a WinTV-PVR-150 or better to record CATV.
I have 4 in my stock pile and was planning on going as high as 6 soon. For the money you can't find anything else this small full feature:
Music
Videos
Photos
Radio (internet radio)
Settings
SAGETV and GBPVR give you more like Weather, Live TV, SearchGuide and more..

Great No Frills Media Player
Pros: Everything you want from a no frills player. Much better than Prismiq MediaPlayer.
Cons: Waiting for V2 of the hardware to support TOS/Coax audio out, Component/Progressive output. Wireless connectivity. And upgraded software for more feature set and friendlier interface.
-
not a Cadillac, but great value!
Pros: Easy to set up, cheap, 3rd party (open source) firmware/application combos available.
Cons: Firmware/application that it ships with is a little clunky and sensitive to CPU usage on the server.
-
There are/will be better solutions
Pros: After you download the software from the webpage it is easy to use and setup. Simple to use, adding internet stations and files to your folders was a breeze.
Cons: The software that came with my unit had bugs and did not work. No DRM support, it will not play new legal protected content. Doesn't support .mov file. Will not play encrypted music streams. MPEG4 will not work. Large MPEG files will not play.

KEEPS GETTING BETTER
Pros: I've had mine for a year. It was a good buy from day one, but with each new release it gets better. Can't go wrong with this unit.
Cons: More remote control functions, and better documentation. Based on history over 1st year I'm confident my now minor issues will also be fixed...

Does what it is supposed to, cheaply
Pros: TV output good, good immunity to interference (unlike PrismIQ). CHEAP! Plays high bitrate (unlink GateWay). CHEAP! Upgrades by loading from PC server.
Cons: Only 2x fast forward (but has 30 sec skip). Software has problems with multiple servers, but mostly works.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Hauppauge Computer Works
- Part number: 1000
- Description: Hauppauge's MediaMVP is a low cost thin-client device which bridges the home PC with home TV and A/V equipment, via Ethernet networks. It takes high quality digital audio (MP3 music), digital video (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 videos), digital pictures (JPEG and GIF digital pictures) and other multimedia content in the form of IP packet streams and renders the content onto video and audio equipment such as TV sets, TV monitors or plasma monitors, and home theater A/V systems. The MediaMVP connects to the home LAN via its built-in RJ-45 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network interface. When used in conjunction with a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR installed in a PC, a complete home TV and digital media distribution system can be made. Television is recorded on the home PC with the WinTV-PVR, and then watched on a TV set through the MediaMVP via the home LAN. The MediaMVP is located at the TV set, and decodes videos sent to the MediaMVP over the home LAN for viewing on the TV set. It also provides media decoding for MP3 music and JPEG/GIF digital pictures. The MediaMVP displays on the TV screen lists of media which can be played through the MediaMVP, plus menus for organizing the lists and for playing play lists. While playing music, the MediaMVP can also play a digital picture slide show. Driven by a powerful RISC CPU engine (>350 DMIPS) running the Linux operating system, and with dedicated special purpose multimedia hardware components, the MediaMVP is a full-blown network multi-media decoder device with superior computing and digital audio and video processing capacities.
