The good: Good audio and graphics quality; easy setup; intuitive onscreen menu; includes audio and video cables.
The bad: Can’t handle video, Internet radio, or audio CDs; requires Windows XP and .Net framework; hogs host PC’s resources; incompatible with firewall; meager one-year warranty.
The bottom line: The Linksys Wireless-B media adapter does a good job of letting media hounds beam MP3s to their stereo or digital pictures to their TV, but it's pricey considering what it still lacks.

That was the end of this. tech support is BS for this product. they don't have a clue. tried to demand a refund for a product that does not work and THEY HUNG UP ON ME! now I have another piece of junk collecting dust. Do yourself a favor and try a different product.

Summary: The fact that it saves _msl.lock files all over my machine has created numerous problems for other programs running on my machine. If *any* other program uses the mp3 files in your songs directory, be careful! My first reccommendation is to setup a read only file share and point the lynksys program to that instead of the real directory. Otherwise it will save hundreds, of _msl.lock files that cannot be easily removed.
I spent hours investigating problems on my PC only to discover that the stupid little linksys program was saving files that were left open and could not be erased. The only way I could delete the files was to reboot in command line mode! This product works great for a few songs but if you have hundereds-thousands it is too much pain to make it work.
Maybe someday Linksys will post a software upgrade...1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

It works, but Linksys needs to UPDATE
Pros: It works great for what it is supposed to do. Set up can be a pain, but if you 1. set it up while hooked into a wired network and then switch to wireless. And 2. Turn off software firewalls and virus detection when you want it to work. A lot of potentia
Cons: LIMITED features, but yet so much potential! It really needs to be able to play video, and streaming media from the web. Internet radio, etc. Needs software to manage playlists and selections from the computer. Needs screen saver for TV music operation.

Summary: I called and inquired about the "you have to turn off the firewall to make this work" stance. After several hours of arguing with their tech support (who told me I needed to call Microsoft to find out what ports I needed to open up... idiot!), this was the response I received the next day via email:
"The WMA11B uses dynamic ports (changes all the time) for buffering purposes. You will not be able to use this with a firewall… This should not be a problem though for the fact that you “should” already have a Linksys router which contains an advanced hardware-based firewall."
And if I don't have a hardware firewall am I supposed to just open up my computer to attacks so I can listen to music?? Other products use set ports and rules can be created on the firewall to let the device talk to your computer.
This product stinks. The support stinks. Linksys's lack of concern for their customer stinks.

Summary: I bought the machine hoping to show images from my hard drive on the TV set, where people could sit back and look at them. I also hoped to be able to play music stored on my computer through my stereo system. After calling for help a few times, I did finally get slide shows working. Then I found out you can control the device only through a television set. So you have to have the TV and Stereo in the same room to play music at all.
I used it a few times for pictures. Then I had to reformat my hard drive, and in the process wiped out the unit's installation on my lapttop. I tried to install it again, and it wouldn't install. I called for help and spent about an hour with somebody who didn't seem to be able to answer direct questions, but rather just listen and then go to the manual and try to pick an answer that seemed to apply. I finally typed, "I'm out of time," and disconnected. An hour later I got a phone call from somebody telling me the device is out of warranty, and it would cost me $29.95 for assistance. I didn't go for it.
I really feel I have been cheated. -

I have had one for a year, and it has worked for 4 weeks of that time. To cut a long story short, it took them 3 years to patch the buggy software and make it compatible for windows SP2. Their customer support doesn't know enough about computers or their own products to help. It cannot work through a firewall and unfortunately this is not mentioned in the documents anywhere, so it can take a age to set up. Finally the software cannot be uninstalled properly and despite vain attempts, I can no longer use it as i can't install or uninstall the software. It's not really worth the effort. -

If I push hard enough, they agree that the product does not work, and promise to have the supervisor call me with authorization to return. Several days later I get a totally stock answer.
Do not buy this if you have a decent camera, and want to use it with a decent library of pictures. -

Initially had firewall issues (xp widows firewall)but was able to config the firewall to allow it. Linksys people did not know how to do this and told me to turn off the firewall.
