Logitech Revue (Google TV) price range: $154.95

The good: Revolutionary Google TV software enables potential access to virtually all online media with a powerful interface; excellent wireless keyboard; user interface overlays over TV content from cable/satellite box; can control TV, AV receiver, and cable/satellite box with built-in IR emitters; Google search bar looks through both online and offline content; built-in Chrome browser that supports Flash and HTML5 video; streams music, videos, and photos from a connected PC or DLNA device; Android Marketplace coming in 2011.
The bad: Major content providers like Hulu, CBS, and ABC are currently blocking Google TV; user interface geared toward power users; Google's "universal" search doesn't search Netflix; antiquated Netflix interface; limited app selection at launch; expensive compared with simpler devices like Apple TV and Roku XDS; too many bugs with current software; significant network performance issues with our review sample; doesn't work with older, non-HD TVs.
The bottom line: The Logitech Revue with Google TV is loaded with potentially game-changing functionality, but its high price, numerous caveats, and current assortment of bugs make it best-suited to early adopters--at least until promised firmware fixes become available.

Limited, bad interface, no content, but good blu ray
by mrteeney7 on December 28, 2010
Pros: good blu ray play back, albeit very slow to boot especially for this price. It's cool to go to an Internet Channel, Apple TV is better.
Cons: Terrible remote, I can't learn it, I can't see it in the dark. This can only be an adjunct to an entire system, keep your cable/satellite or whatever, this is not worth buying.

Summary: I joined cNet just to complain about the Sony / Google TV - it is the worst product of the year. It has no content, Sony's Quriocity channel is garbage, Amazon's video store is lame. If you have an Apple TV or game system you get Netflix anyway. The Internet on this thing is not clear on a 60' Samsung 8 plasma - I tried it on a Panasonic LED 2009 55" and still, I had to zoom repeatedly - the zoom "feature" is the upper right thumb slide - you move your thumb over a circular directional pad to move the mouse on the screen - it's as hard to do as it is to explain. I think you'll be thoroughly disappointed if you buy this. It's nice to have an Internet Channel so to say - for that I like it - I set my bookmarks and "watch" the Internet, forget about typing on that remote. So if you go and buy it, save the box.

Waiting for android market to open & receiver is rooted
by chunkybug on December 1, 2010
Pros: Innovative product especially when tethered to a Dish Dvr. Next generation of web on TV.
Cons: Just about every major U.S. broadcast network is blocking streaming media (ex. ABC, CBS, Fox, Hula).
Summary: Finally technology has caught up with the notion of mixing web content and network content all on one video source, your television.

I will update my review once this product is Rooted and the Android Marketplace opens.
This is a great first generation product. Once Google comes to an agreement(s) with U.S. broadcast networks this product will finally merge Television and the World Wide Web into one viewable source.
I have owned just about every product that tried to accomplish this including Webtv classic, Webtv Plus, Dishplayer, MsnTv, AOLtv and alike. This is Google's version of what Webtv could of, should of been.
I hope Google TV steps up to the plate and becomes a success. Only time will tell because every Set-Top-Box that has attempted this has FAILED.

Great promise, little delivery
by bill1017 on November 14, 2010
Pros: - Set-top box HDMI integration - Digital optical out put for older Home Theater setups
- Seamless access to Netflix, Device handles every thing.
- Nice integration with the web
- TV Show search is amazing and very easy to use (see Con belowCons: - No Hulu, ABC, CBS, etc...
- Amazon VOD integration is terrible
- Processor may be to under powered for future expansion

Summary: My Roku bricked and I got the "So what, buy a new one at full price" when I called for support. I decided to become an early adopter of Google TV.
I really like the box it self, easy to setup and use. Connecting HDMI cable from the cable box into the Revue makes for a very nicely integrated device. It also has the benefit being the best HDMI switch for me, I have an older receiver that take a Digitial Optical not HDMI. This made adding the Revue to my current setup very easy. I did not have to take an additional HDMI or Digital audio connection to add it.
So having the HDMI input from the cable box provides two features I like. First, provides a picture in picture when search the web and second it makes switching to another online media source very seamless. I hit one button on my Harmony remote to watch neflix and there it is. No need to have had setup another activity on the remote.
I really like the TV show search feature. Search for Smallville (since CW still works on Google TV) and you find the episodes available on the CW web site, when it will be on TV again, and episodes available on Amazon VOD. All nicely laid out on an easily understandable grid.
The problems start to show when you dig a little deeper. The Integration with Amazon VOD is terrible, If you want to view your media library it take you to the Amazon web site. It does not use the nice easy to use UI that the Roku has.
The Netflix interface is the same interface that the Roku launched with over 2 years ago. They did not include new interface that is now on the PS3, Roku and other devices.
The fact that major networks have blocked Google TV make all the great feature moot.
Google TV has a lot of great promise, but at the end of the day it has dropped the ball. The UI needs to be flexable enough to handle two use cases. First the streaming media case that provides a very easy UI that can be controlled by a standard remote (see Boxee, Roku, etc...) and a UI that provides more functionality when used with key board.
I was thinking of getting an Dell Inspron Zino and installing Boxee on it. I wish I had. I would have the nice easy to use interface and the flexibility of a general purpose computer to surf the web. And view any content that is available on the web with out worry of it being blocked.
Google TV was not ready for release. They need a major update to the UI to make the services the already offer easy to use.
Right now the Revue does not just justify a $200+ premium over the Roku and is more restrictive then getting a low-end PC for the same cost. -
Lots of potential, but currently *very* disappointing.
by symmetric on October 27, 2010
Pros: Lots of future potential.
Cons: It's a crippled Harmony remote (it can't control any devices other than TV, RCVR, & DVR).
It's also a crippled Google TV box until it can search DVR contents (like a TiVo).Summary: I have a TiVo and it doesn't know what's recorded on it. I knew in advance it wouldn't fully work with my TiVo, and I was willing ...
Summary: I have a TiVo and it doesn't know what's recorded on it. I knew in advance it wouldn't fully work with my TiVo, and I was willing to wait for that functionality, but I also thought it was a full Harmony remote. While I see the potential, none of it has been realized yet. Given it's current state I'll just be going back to my Roku box. The Revue just doesn't offer anything I need that my Roku doesn't already do. I may buy another one once these problems are fixed.

Returned for Refund
by dawagner1 on October 27, 2010
Pros: A lot of potential functionality, if it only worked as advertised
Cons: Really don't like surfing the internet on my TV. My search results tend to be all over the place and it is difficult to find what I want. The setup is very complicated. Expensive for what you actually get
Summary: Needed to return the product. It is not ready for prime time and too expensive. I would just assume do whatever surfing I need on a netbook or tablet.

Logitech revue offers true internet on your HDTV.
by buchster on October 23, 2010
Pros: First set-top box I've seen that offers complete and easy internet navigation for your big screen TV without having to hook up your laptop. Can easily watch youtube etc. with a group of people w/o having to crowd around a PC or laptop.
Cons: No DVR, a small hand held remote w/o a keyboard would be nicer for TV channel surfing. The unit seems a little pricey, as are the few accessories currently available. No printer compatibility... yet.
Summary: The main reason I am interested in this set-top box is as a replacement for my elderly fathers obsolete MSNTV unit. I originally got him a WEBTV years ago so ...
Summary: The main reason I am interested in this set-top box is as a replacement for my elderly fathers obsolete MSNTV unit. I originally got him a WEBTV years ago so he could have a simple/easy to use, way to access the web and e-mail. The WEBTV was pretty good at the time, but Microsoft bought the company, renamed it MSNTV, and after a few attempts to keep up with the fast pace of the evolution of the internet, they gave up and put MSNTV on the back burner and let it slip into near complete obsolescence. The new Logitech version of Google TV is light years more advanced than the MSNTV and yet seems simple enough even for my tech phobic elderly Dad to operate.
Having only used the Revue a few times, I can't say it will replace a PC or laptop, but with the promise of many more apps to come, it may one day. At least for people who are only casual computer users such as myself.
There are some shortcomings, but this is the best merging of internet and TV entertainment I've seen yet. -

by thorand21 on December 28, 2010
Pros: The option to get information while it fresh in my mind and get current info quickly.
Cons: content providers should not know what your using to surf the web and restrict access to any thing, I've paid to reach it through cable any way.
Summary: to soon for a bottom line. My cable provider is sad over priced, and replaying the same things over and over. The Revue is the start to... now way things ...

Works as advertised, easy to use if you get past set up
by skyprt on December 21, 2010
Pros: - Web browsing while viewing TV, e.g., look up player stats while watching game
- Fast, good sound, great video - guess this partly depends on what you're running it on
- Have Dish Network, and works like a charm (Day 2 experience)Cons: - Would imagine set up could be challenging for many, but considering this works with many disparate vendors (e.g., Sony, Denon, etc, etc), not too bad
- Online help limited
- Keyboard layout a little puzzling, but okay once you get used to itSummary: I'd highly recommend this product, and surprise myself by saying this, given the spotty professional reviews I read before purchasing this. Will get even better over the coming months ...

by joeydrunk on November 3, 2010
Pros: Almost full internet, who else has that, looks awesome, killer Android app, has all kind of apps, iptv channels, widgets, modes, etc. Searches what your looking for on cable and web at same time, surf the web while watching tv, search your music and
Cons: Dosnt search netflix, Comcast on demand, no access to video on hulu, nyc, abc and cbs. All of this will be fixed within the next few months though.
