The good: The Roku LT is a small streaming-media box that costs only $50. It offers hundreds of streaming-video and -audio services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go, Vudu, Spotify, Pandora, Mog, Rdio, and MLB.TV. Roku also offers cross-platform search, capable of finding content across major streaming services. And the LT also supports older TVs via its analog video output.
The bad: For those invested in the Apple ecosystem, the Roku LT doesn't offer the same tight integration as the Apple TV's AirPlay functionality. The Roku LT also lacks a YouTube channel. And there's no Ethernet port, so you'll need a solid Wi-Fi signal in your home theater.
The bottom line: The Roku LT is a killer streaming-media box, offering tons of streaming content -- including favorites like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, and Pandora -- for just $50.

Thought it was going to be great, but...
by abrewer0820 on April 17, 2012
Pros: Streamed Netflix well. Easy to set up and configure.
Cons: Absolutely bogged down my network completely. When the Roku was playing, every other wireless device in my home would run either run extremely slow, or not run at all. I even sought help from Roku who did offer some possible solutions, but no luck.
Summary: Returned the Roku. Could not tolerate it bogging down my network.

Updated on Apr 17, 2012Summary: Returned the Roku. Could not tolerate it bogging down my network.
Before anyone says that my network is just not strong enough to handle it... I can stream Netflix on multiple other devices at the same time with no issue. I.e., I stream it through the Wii in one room, through my Xbox in another room, plus have two PCs and my Android phone all using the network concurrently. The Roku does not share well with other devices...

Can't go wrong. with Roku
by PLachelier on April 7, 2012
Pros: Easy to set up, good streaming WiFi, plenty of free feeds, has radio, music and streaming movies.
Cons: Choice of free movie feeds usually feature movies that are at least 3 years old. Some movies hang up in an endless loop between ads. Sports channels need to get on board.
Summary: An excellent way to make that first step to break away from cable.

Very, very poor manufacturing quality.

Pros: A great variety of streaming material is available through Roku.
Cons: (These comments refer to a predecessor model, and not to the LT. I do not remember the model number of the Roku I owned. I can't look it up because I threw the damn thing away.)
Mechanically, my Roku was junk.

Summary: My Roku failed just long enough after purchase so as to be out of warranty. (Warranty is 90 days.) I replaced it with a NeoTV NTV200 by Netgear, which is also inexpensive as these things go. The NTV 200 seems to be working OK. The variety of streaming material is sufficient on the NTV 200.
Regarding the "fewer features" comment I made above: The LT does not have an ethernet jack, nor does it have an S/PDIF output. My older Roku had both these items.
It is also possible to turn off the NTV 200. My Roku did not have an on/off switch. It was always on.
I would not recommend a Roku for reasons of workmanship.
To someone who has not owned a streaming media player before, I recommend the player with the most personally suitable streaming material. (The various manufacturers have different deals with different content providers.)
Once burned, twice shy. I will not buy a Roku again.

Wanted a way to dump my high cable bill - found it!
by not_techy_at_all on December 28, 2011
Pros: Affordable, easy to install and use. I'm not a techy and gadgets often frustrate me. Roku XD installation was simple and I really appreciated the super easy instructions. I'm still adding channels but the process is quick and exploring is a snap!
Cons: Looking for a way to get my local news since I dumped my cable carrier. I hope that eventually local channels come on board! Overall, exceptionally good product!

Summary: Very excited to reduce my cable bill and watch what I want, when I want it. The channel and program selection is excellent. I added hulu plus and netflix - i think that i won't ever be wanting for something "good" to watch.
Roku xd cost $80 at best buy and i added hulu plus at $8 a month and netflix for the same. This will reduce my overall tv bill by about $60 a month plus i get to watch all the movies i want. I worked a deal with fios to keep my internet at $45 a month for the next year with a 15/5 mb speed. That speed seems to be more than adequate.
I am very happy with this product! -
Good but not great.
by incubustable1 on November 5, 2011
Pros: Works well IF you subscribe to a number of specific, paid services.
Works well IF you have a strong internet connection.
Has some programs that are free like Pandora.Cons: You're paying $50 for something that requires you to have a strong internet connection (no ethernet port) and a subscription to multiple paid services to make it worth while. Otherwise its useless.

Summary: The missing option to stream your own content through the roku box really hurts this product. I own a PS3 and as a plus, I can either plug in a portable hard drive and play content through that or I can use PS3 media server on my computer to stream content from my Mac to the PS3. Of course the PS3 is much more expensive than the Roku, but an option to stream your own content through this Roku box allowing it to play practically any content you can get your hands on would make this niche product leaps and bounds better than in its current form. Being able to view my own content for free, on a box that I paid for without having to subscribe to other services has become a rarity, the roku is similar to a cable box, if you don't subscribe to the cable service to use it, it can't do much else.
Because televisions and video streaming services are quickly adapting to mainstream technology, it will be sooner rather than later, that niche products such as the Roku, will become obsolete. TV's will come with Netflix streaming, Hulu Plus, Amazon on Demand, etc. built-in (as they already do) or they will get smarter and create partnerships with Dish and cable companies to offer their services within the cable box. Its only a matter of time before your Roku box is thrown in a box to collect dust along with your VCR's and cd players.

Pros: if you own it and pay for subscriptions...it might be useful.
