  Much Better Than I Expected!

  Pros: + Solid, well built and has a host of connections on the back
  + Setup was simple and took a few minutes

  + Image viewer works fine
  + USB media playback
  + Works with any TV

  Summary: Out the box it feels solid, well built and has a host of connections on the back. This is connected via HDMI to my TV for best quality and least wires. Its also connected via ethernet to get the top speeds from my internet.
  
  Setup was simple and took a few minutes, setting up the screen resolution etc and then activating advanced features such as LoveFilm accounts was a doddle too.
  
  The menu system is alright, is the typical Sony scroll bar menu they use on all their entertainment equipment, like the PS3 bar and PSP bar. I don't love it and don't hate it. Its easy to navigate and fast and response enough to enjoy.
  
  I have to avoid the music section because i haven't and won't use it, im a LastFM man on my Xbox so this bit means nothing to me.
  The image viewer works fine, rigged up to an external drive via the front USB port, loaded all my images with ease, although the viewing features are limited to just swapping picture in a slideshow format, no zoom or anything. Which is fine because realy i wanted this box purely for the Internet TV side of things.
  
  Now the good bit, the video section. The first thing i tested was BBC iPlayer and the all important Eastenders episode i missed!. So you head into the iPlayer menu, its pretty fast and easy to navigate, much like the website based player. Selected the episode i wanted and i was away. Now im on the edge of Hull and the connection here is 5MBs compared to the 15MBs in the city, so streaming has been an issue the odd time. But using this it wasn't at all. The episode started within 20 seconds and i was away, no lag, no buffering nothing. It played perfectly all the way through. So by this time i was happy!
  
  Next big test was LoveFilm, now online i have had bad lag issues using this service to watch movies which are included in my rent package cost. So this was important to me as i want the most out of LoveFilm. First movie to test was Planet of the Apes, original. Took about 30 to 50 seconds to buffer and then it was off. Watched the full movie with no buffering or stalls and it looked great. So far ive watched 5 movies and had 1 buffering encounter but i think that was my fault, other than that its worked great.
  
  The reason i have not given this 5 stars is the lack of ITVs on demand service and 4oD which i absolutely love. Also navigating Youtube is difficult with the annoying input system used. So if these change in the future i will change this to 5 stars without doubt.
  
  If you want a great internet on demand tv setup for your TV, get this, its awesome!

  Excellent Player

  Pros: Quick and easy setup (for wired users)
  Huge variety of choices
  Picture and sound quality
  Small footprint

  Summary: I have a Sony BDP-CX7000ES changer for my blu-rays. It is an excellent player but it lacks streaming capabilities, so rather than buy a single blu-ray player just for streaming, I opted for this player instead. I am glad I did. It took me about 5 minutes get things set up. The player instantly connected to my network and told me of a new firmware update which took about 2 minutes. After that, I registered my player with Sony with a code provided by the player. Then, I activated it for Amazon, Netflix, and Pandora. The X-bar navigation is very easy (again, I don't know why the CNET editor is complaining). Picture quality and sound was good from all sources (including my personal videos and movies - the unit found all of my computers quickly). All-in-all, I would highly recommend this player to anyone looking for a high-quality, reliable network media device.

  Great little box, but needs better Netflix interface.

  Pros: This box gets Netflix, Amazon VOD, Hulu Plus plus others. I love how easy it was to setup and to use. It has a small foot print. It streams at HD Quality from my wireless router with hardly a hiccup.

  Cons: Better Netflix controls. Its poor search functions to compared to what my WII can do. They need to put the PS3 or WII browsing and categories search function in the next firmware update.

If not for the poor browsing and search functions in Netflix, I would of gave the Sony SMP-N100 a five star rating. I have a friend who has Apple TV and he likes my Sony better.

  Pros: Has Component Video output as well as HDMI which is useful if your TV has limited HDMI inputs.

  A big disappointment to say the least!

  Pros: So many great features of programs if you can utilize them all. it is light & small and fits anywhere with all the audio jacking hook-up you'll need for quality sound.

  Cons: Won't retrieve proper feed or transition so, what good is it having so many great features if you can't take advantage of them properly? Some users are saying it's because of a third party feed streaming. Well, I just know that it's junk!

  Summary: I purchased this N100 in the hopes to receive a (space saver) do it all device as far as wi-fi players goes. I am very disappointed with the component/technical quality because I found that the player does not in fact receive signal well and its function responses are way too slow no matter where I place the unit in the house and even when switching out other working units. Maybe an external antenner or wifi adapter can make all the difference?
  
  I am not having any issue with set-up, there's one extra step to deal with comparing to some other brands, no big deal. But, if you like watching Netflix, listening to Pandora or even play a movie from your favorite movie site you are going to have to deal a 10 minute buffering wait for every 3 minutes of viewing every day, ridiculous! No thanks for me, I put in an old Tashiba wi-fi player for netflix and settled without having the other features which by the way, works great!

  For a Decent wireless Streaming device, look elsewhere

  Summary: Bought the SMP-N100 on deal about 3 months back, and it stopped working in 2 months over the wireless, The support is difficult to reach, about 20-40 mins each time you call, and (the support team) believes in putting the blame on you. At first they claimed to 'repair' the unit and sent a refurbished one which clearly had a different serial number, which was DOA (Dead on arrival) or a Lemon. again the 30-40 minute wait calls ensued, After gazillion odd setup tweaks when my Media player did not play using wireless connection, the support individual (Nathanial, who claims to have over 5 years of experience in networking) said My Wireless network is at fault, the exact same network which works fine for 6 other devices and worked ok for 2 months for this device as well. and as a Favor he will get it checked if I send it back to them, so I have to pay to ship for the lemon they sent me in first place. Now that I am done rambling about Issues here is a proper 411 on the product itself.
  While it worked,
  It is slow to connect and the quality of video is at times pathetic.
  It does most of the things like connect to internet media and has a wide variety of apps (Netflix, crackle, etc.,) blockbuster still missing.
  It has decent DLNA client and connects to the content without dropping it.
  Support (Staff knowledge and reachability) is ok to Pathetic.
  I see a lot of deals on this product going on as low as 48$, it's not worth even that.
  Over all cannot recommend this product in right mind. I may be trying some other products soon and will update if I find a good alternative to this player.

  Great Basic Network Player

  Pros: PS3 interface is nice looking and pretty easy to navigate even for a non-PS3 owner. Content that this unit can "see" and play is done very nicely. I tested this unit (I'm a Home Theater integrator) and it performed very well.

  Cons: DLNA limitations (can't access many of your computer files) and limited codecs (can't play VOB and IFO movie file types).

I previously owned the WD and Asus OhPlay media player and both display subtitle without a snich, Asus can even allow you to change the font size and the color of the subtitle.   Pros: I'm Australian, so we don't get Netflix. However, we do get some local services like ABC (Australian)'s iView. It has Youtube. It has Music Unlimited, a (paid) Sony music service, and a Berliner Philharmoniker channel (paid too).

  Cons: Internet video quality isn't great, though that might not be the box but a general symptom of media players with internet video. DLNA quality wasn't too flash either, but I didn't have a great source to begin with. Not as many codecs as you'd prefer.

This isn't too expensive either - you can find it for about $175 in Melbourne. It's great to use, great-looking (interface - physically the best you could say is it's compact) and it has plenty of features.
