Here's the Fix!
by jcamello on December 30, 2006
Pros: Very versatile, download photos to internal memory or by plugging in a memory card, plays photos, video, and mp3's w/ internal stereo speakers, has a remote control, can hang on wall or rest on shelf.
Cons: Need to get a file emailed to you from the manufacturer to correct the Aspect Ratio Problem, otherwise it stretches all pictures to 16:9 ratio and they look distorted.
Summary: This is actually a pretty good unit for the price. It has many features but the main complaint that everyone has (stretches photos) is because it has only been set ...
Summary: This is actually a pretty good unit for the price. It has many features but the main complaint that everyone has (stretches photos) is because it has only been set up for 16:9 ratio. After buying this, I called the manufacturer and emailed them. It turns out that they just developed a fix for the Aspect Ratio problem which will allow you to switch from 16:9 to 4:3 (the format used by most photos). Send an email to Support@pacificdigital.com. They will email you a file to fix the problem which turns out to be pretty simple to install. You will extract the file to a memory card. Insert the memory card into your unit. Go to Text in the main Menu and select the memory card from the directory. This will start the formatting (erasing) of the internal memory. Once the update is complete turn the frame off off and then back on. After you turn it back on, you can switch between 16:9 and 4:3 by "pressing and holding" the "Zoom" key on the remote (pressing it momentarily will just make it zoom, so remember "press and hold" for a couple of seconds). Problem solved!

Summary: Unacceptably low resolution screen. I could not tell the difference with a 5 megapixel photo and one reduced to 640 x 480. Both looked grainy and bad. I returned this item to Costco before I made the mistake of giving it as a gift.

Updated
Please ignore my previous posting on this product. I could not fine a way to modify it. The frame has a lot of options and more internal memory than most. The speakers rattle on a low volume setting and really aren't needed. A picture frame is a picture frame I do not need to listen to poor quality music on it. The fix does let you cycle between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio but the resolution, although the same on paper, is not as good as others. The Westinghouse DPF-0702 is much sharper and slightly more money. The Westinghouse is a 7 inch 16:9 ratio but it slightly zooms in on the pic to make it fit. The NV-700 streches it and the people look fat. OR you use 4:3 and have a 5 inch frame. Spend the extra $10 and go with another. I'm in the process of returning it. (Was a gift) Once again sorry for the previous posting. -
Poor Resolutions
by princear on December 27, 2006
Pros: A lot of input options
Cons: Unbelievably poor resolutions which for a gift this is all that matters; it doesnt operate with a timing sequence option change for the slideshow, It doesn't allow a person to skip to the next photo;
Summary: I also bought this at Costco. This was a gift for my father. I unloaded the resident pics from the frame (~450kb each). The preloaded pictures were beautfiul by the ...
Summary: I also bought this at Costco. This was a gift for my father. I unloaded the resident pics from the frame (~450kb each). The preloaded pictures were beautfiul by the way. I then loaded my 7megapixel camera pics onto the frame. The pictures were distorted and grainy. I tried to change the resolution to less; no luck. I tried to change the sizing to less, no dice. I tried to import pictures from a CD disc from Costco Photo processing; still grainy. I tried to import pictures from a CD of a professional photographer, still grainy! I tried importing pics from my SD card, still grainy. Anything but the pics that were pre-loaded were grainy and distorted. I tried the slideshow with the grainy pics I did put on there and it gave me no options to change the timing of each picture's duration (2 secs, 5 secs, etc.); none. You can only view the pictures via slideshow, no chance for a one picture static mode. In a slideshow, you cannot skip to the next photo via the frame controls. Don't bother with the website since it doesn't provide any info whatsoever except call an 800#. Some folks may like to call someone, but my confidence was shot at this point and I didn't want to waste any time with their helpless center (to be fair, I probably should have given it a shot except it was 2 days to Christmas). I couldn't give this gift to my father. Thank goodness I was loading pictures in advance. I had to race out a buy him something fast. I returned this immediately. At least Costco's return policy still works.
