Very good pic/very bad(almost unworkable) software
by ajakez on May 19, 2009
Pros: The pro to this box is obviously its picture and its recording
format. It supposedly records, when you are able, in H264 permitting you to record to Blue Ray disks.Cons: Poor support, buggy drivers and software, inconsistent performance, be ready to spend weeks to get it to function...

Summary: Hauppauge, a company that has been around for years has come out with what looks like a winning piece of equipment. The problem, of course, is that as always, as always, they pay very little attention to the software and drivers side of the equation. As a result, the remote control that comes with the unit might not work at all. It might even start Windows MCE when it is not even supported under it. This is a big problem with this company, and you would think that by now they would fire their coding department and modernize the software side of their operation. But, no, they just continue to ignore the need of the average user of their hardware. Their software is very buggy and as a result you have to spend another $100+ to buy a third party PVR software such as "SageTV." But, don't be taken by this solution because even under this software you will spen hours, days, and maybe even weeks tweaking it. What a pitty. I mean good luck to you if you buy. If you want to know if I am exagerating, go ahead and be a brave soul. By the way, when using this unit or any TV Tuner in your computer stay away from Cross-Fire/SLI motherboards if you want things to go smooth.

One more feature please
by rickfitch on August 2, 2011
Pros: Great to have an alternative to the cable company's box
Cons: I don't have one yet. It would be great if it had an HDMI input .

Summary: This PVR is what everybody's looking for. It records High Definition 1080i, 720p in a great quality, or regular TV from your satellite or cable receiver. The price is very reasonable due to the given specifications. A complete set of applications in the CD like Media Converter (converts to MOV, WMV and MP4), TotalMedia Theater that plays Blu-ray videos, TotalMediaExtreme for video capture, preview, playback, etc.. and WinTV-Scheduler for scheduling TV recordings. Recording can be by S-Video, RCA or Component cable.
