Cons: My son already spends too much time on the PS3 playing COD.
Summary: I'll admit that I want one too.

So far, best choice for recording TV.
by johnpmorton on August 29, 2008
Pros: Best flexibility of any HD-PVR for pc (including the miserable OCUR tuner) plus high quality 1080i video, works well with several PVR programs.
Cons: A little tough to set up, but nowhere near OCUR.

Summary: I bought an XPS 420 a couple of months ago with the MS Digital TV package for OCUR tuners, and I bought two of the tuners. It took me almost a week to get it set up with cable card problems, and an utter lack of support by Dell, once I got it working though the picture seemed excellent - the problem is that the tuners frequently drop off so the recordings will skip at times (this is random) - Plus, I can't play the video recorded on the main system on another PC in my house - DRM be darned! So, I got fed up, discovered that Sagetv now has support for this product, plus the added bonus of a Pandora plugin, so I bought it - It did take a couple tries to get it set up, mostly because I don't know Sagetv like I do MCE - The picture is exactly as good as with the ATI OCUR tuner, plus I can view my recordings over my home network or tansfer them to my Moto Q9c - So far, so good. I plan to get one more and then put my OCUR tuners on Ebay - The only major bummer is no Vista MC support yet - I hope MS wises up and adds support for this device and others like it down the road. I'll post an update in a month.
Updated on Sep 17, 2008
So, the picture is AMAZING on this thing, and I can copy, edit, burn and transcode the files to use any way I see fit - the problem is that NONE of the programs that support it are ready for prime time - Beyond TV doesn't officially support it yet, and SageTV is just not reliable with this hardware - had several lock ups - So, I will shelve this piece of equipment and come back to it in a few months and see how things have improved -

Finally, ARCHIVE your existing DVR recordings in HD.
by jonsantacroce on February 19, 2012
Pros: Can record 1080 video from your Sat/Cable TV dvr for archiving. Other units only take analog inputs destroying your hd.
Cons: Price is a little high.

Cut bills & record over-the-air high-def TV 1080 FREE
by floridauser on May 8, 2011
Pros: With this unit i should be able to record and play back broadcasted HD clearer than any other dvr in the market. If the first one is as good as the spec I will buy 2 of them
Cons: Trying a new product in the blind without a lot of feedback on it

Summary: Would love to have one to try to let others know what to expect from this product. My Long-range outdoor rooftop HDTV antenna on a 20' pole with a rotor is mounted and working great. It shows in crystal-clear 65 local channels and 32 are HDTV, I would love to have a way to record them in 1080 so I could watch a lot them when I get home from work.
