Piece of junk and so is Tivo Customer Support
by GeeksRMe on August 9, 2010
Pros: Netflix streaming, HD interface (if it worked!!)
Cons: Freezes all the time, slower than a 56K modem!!!

Summary: This could possible be the worst product Tivo has ever built and there customer support on it is atrocious. Freezes all the time and Tivo's Customer Support reponse to the issue is "Oh that's been fixed in a future software release you'll get some day." Which day that is they don't know. They also won't send you a replacement unit because the issue "has been resolved." Resolved in the sense that you have to live with the problem till they magically push you the update some day. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. I have an older Tivo unit that works great and never needs a reboot. They've went completely down hill with this product.

Everything They Promise, But Slow and Full of Bugs
by McGloneN on July 2, 2010
Pros: The HD picture quality and audio processing are far superior to cable company DVR's I've had. It had plentiful storage space, and the connections to Netflix, Blockbuster and Amazon are incredibly convenient. Love Tivo suggestions and menu layouts.
Cons: Interface is sluggish. Scrolling the recordings takes 5-10 sec / page. Freezes up. Requires restarts. Takes 15-20 minutes to boot up. Support is awful. "HD Menu System" consists of few screens. Most are in blurry SD, including the program guide.
Summary: The box is promising on paper. It's full of great features. In my living room, it's so slow to respond and requires such frequent restarting that watching tv ...
Summary: The box is promising on paper. It's full of great features. In my living room, it's so slow to respond and requires such frequent restarting that watching tv has become a hassle. I contacted Tivo, and while acknowledging "know issues," they wouldn't authorize a return just 15 days outside the money-back period. (I'm a four-year customer.) Stay away from this unit until Tivo resolves its issues.

Slow and buggy
by tholius on October 17, 2010
Pros: Online content, picture quality is excellent, nice feature set.
Cons: Hangs, crashes, ui unresponsive sometimes, reboots itself -- a real hassle. Changes channels for no reason (it decides which tuner to use to start recording a suggestion even if you are watching it) This device is AWFUL.
Summary: I love my series 3, Rock solid UI, doesn't crash, behaves rationally. The premiere is an unmitigated disaster. I cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone. I got ...
Summary: I love my series 3, Rock solid UI, doesn't crash, behaves rationally. The premiere is an unmitigated disaster. I cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone. I got my premiere inexpensively because my series 3 died and TiVo talked me into a bargain basement deal for the premiere. I since repaired my series 3 and use it more than the premiere. Even with reduced used, the thing crashes and reboots itself often. And the feature allowing transfers from one TiVo to another is, well, useless since almost everything is copy protected. And even when you find something to transfer, it takes A DAY to transfer an hourlong recording. Yes, both are connected on the wireless network but good grief, so is my laptop and I see very high throughput with that. Wait until TiVo gets the buggy software fixed, I doubt it will be anytime soon. There is NO COMPELLING REASON to buy a premiere if you already have a series 3. And even if you don't, you can get a series 3 with lifetime service on eBay inexpensively.

A former great, now on the fail pile
by sf_kevin on April 23, 2012
Pros: Better than Comcast... but that's not saying much.
Cons: 10 minutes to boot up. Only way to reboot is to UNPLUG IT. Amazon prime free stuff isn't free on this box. Customer support is horrible. If there's a way to extend the beginning and end of a recording, I've never been able to find it. Expensive.
Summary: So sad. Such a great company 10 years ago. Now... just sad.

No Access to Amazon Prime
by millerprm on February 10, 2012
Pros: good product and interface. Can connect with an antenna so you can record all the free OTA content which is a big plus and allowed me to cut the dish cord.
Cons: For any Amazon Prime members (of which there are approx. 5 million) who are considering Tivo, you CAN'T ACCESS YOUR FREE content via your Tivo box! I called tech support because I thought there was something wrong with my Tivo. It never occurred to me Tiv
Summary: Over all great product if your NOT an Amazon Prime member.

Save your money - DON'T buy a tivo premiere
by andralynaa on December 15, 2011
Pros: Will record video
Cons: Interface is slow and if you use the HD menus, it freezes all the time. Even in SD menus, it freezes at least a few times a week. Customer service and tech support are appallingly bad.

Summary: I bought a premiere a little over a year ago and it's been nothing but problems. From the beginning, the HD menus froze all the time so I switched to the SD menus which froze less frequently, but still at least a few times per week. I called Tivo tech support and got a different answer every time I talked to someone until finally they had me do a paid exchange for a refurbished box (which they never disclosed it would be refurbished). The "new" Tivo has the exact same problem and not only is Tivo unable to fix the problem, but they are also unwilling to admit they can't fix it and return my exchange fee. Now, they want me to haul my TV into another room to test it there or give it to a friend to use for a week. I have spent hours upon hours on hold and on the phone with their tech support and customer service people with absolutely no results. The supervisor I talked to was also really, really rude. Bottom line...this is a substandard quality product and you'll get horrible customer service. If you already have a tivo, don't upgrade and if you don't, get a different dvr. This one isn't worth it. And the positive reviews you see here? They probably just wrote the review before they had enough time to experience the freezing issues.
By the way, this review is coming from a very loyal tivo customer. I've convinced many people to buy a tivo. I've been with Tivo from the beginning and my series 2 is almost 10 years old. The series 2 was far and away a better product than the premiere. Pretty sad. -
Better interface but sluggish and buggy
by connersherline on September 12, 2011
Pros: I like the new interface, the ability to see what else is available on Netflix, Blockbuster, etc. I like how live TV is seen from the Now Playing menu. The ease of use and regular TiVo charm are nice.
Cons: Powering up? I thought we lived in a world where things could easily turn on within second. This box takes literally 15 mins to power up and in order to reset it when it is frozen you have to take the power cord out.

Summary: End of the day I really enjoy having this DVR in my dorm room, it does what it needs to but can be buggy. It is sluggish and feels like it is modern software on a very dated hardware system. They should have quicker processors and more RAM on board to make it more seamless. I like TiVo because it is relatively simple to use, but I hate that when I need to reset it that it takes 20 minutes to power up, more so, I hate that when it resets, much of my information, TV shows, and ToDo List completely VANISH! I am sure that with a couple of software releases the product will reach a 3 - 3 1/2 star rating, but until then I am giving this a 50%, it's OK, not blown away and not completely disappointed. The price makes it more worth it, $85 isn't bad.

No wonder TIVO is hurting
by Stonehaven1262 on April 7, 2011
Pros: In addition to the Premier, I own two other TIVO HD DVRs. The Premier has a nicer interface than the TIVO HD. There are also features that are available on the Premerie that is not available on TIVO HD such as the ability to watch a show in a small wind
Cons: Tivo does not allow multi-unit discounts on the Premiere so you have to pay $19.95 per month. If I had known this I would not have purchased this Tivo. The monthly cost is the Tivo unit plus $19.95 per month charge plus $4 for the cablecard which is hig

Summary: If you don't mind paying a higher average monthly fee than the cable or satellite DVR and want a DVR with nice features, I would recommend this TIVO. Otherwise, either purchased a used Tivo or lease the DVR from your provider. Don't buy ia Tivofor the mult-room feature unless the only shows you watch are free network broadcast shows. The Tivo-to-go software costs extra dollars but it is a very good feature if you want to transfer shows to our iPhone. Its very slow and does a horrible job in letting you know the progress of the conversion however you can transfer shows to your iPhone to watch on the road.

Great enhancement of tv viewing experience.
by cbatherley on February 16, 2011
Pros: Tivo suggestions is awesome, also able to stream cnet videos.
Cons: Still stuck with time warner, No Wi-Fi. $20 a month!!

High Def Recording and Usability
by Doob67 on December 28, 2010
Pros: A great balance of features, usability, and high definition clarity supported by a really good deal. I had been a TiVo user in the past, but the improvements are fantastic. We got the slide out remote (separately) that works great with the box.
Cons: On a very rare occasion there will be a freeze up, but this can be recovered from. Given how infrequent you need to type in search criteria, the price for the slide out remote seems a bit high, but it's nice to have.
Summary: TiVo has done it again with their offer which provides the box and service with no up front fees. The usability of the interface is unsurpassed. It works great with ...
Summary: TiVo has done it again with their offer which provides the box and service with no up front fees. The usability of the interface is unsurpassed. It works great with my Comcast service and thru use of the MCard I no longer need a separate cable box. The high definition recording is flawless. Integration with amazon unboxed and Netflix is seamless. The recording capacity is more than enough for me. I use only about half of it and I still have a lot to watch! Great deal for an amazing product.
